Hi Bev, great to have a new face on the Forum! Not sure I understand everything you’ve written there, but a few things come to mind that might help your digestion of the magnificent work of the WTM.

Jeremy Griffith discusses Paul MacLean’s ‘triune brain’ theory in freedom essays 4 & 53, with the reptilian original brain, then middle limbic brain and then the outer neo or cerebal cortex. There’s also a great discussion in Freedom webinar 2. (I’ll put the links at the end). Jeremy explains there that MacLean ‘failed to explain what is it about the different intelligences and resulting subjectivities and senses of time and space and memories that actually causes the conflict between these two particular brains.’ So thinkers like that got close to the explanation of the human condition but then veered away from it. What was required to get to the bottom of the human condition, our capacity for ‘good’ and ‘evil’, was finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great breakthrough that Jeremy has found.

The biological reason for, and evidence of, our fully altruistic, all-loving moral instincts, ‘the voice’ of which within us we recognise when we refer to our conscience, is presented in chapter 5 of the book ‘Freedom’. It explains there why we have fully moral, not partially moral and partially savage instincts, and the theory you are talking about I think is ‘group selection’ the limitations of which is dealt with in chapter 6. Overall Jeremy explains the key biological distinction that humans suffer from is the conscious-mind-based, psychologically troubled human condition, not the genetic-opportunism-based, animal condition. And, most importantly a psychosis can be healed with understanding, so our psychologically upset human nature is fixable or changeable—not unchangeable, which is what it would essentially be if our competitive and aggressive nature was instinctive; if it was something that is in our genes and we were born with.

We have grown up living under the duress of the human condition. Even though the human condition is now solved thanks to Jeremy Griffith’s work, and as a species we can now move on from it, I agree that it is beyond our abilities to fathom the power of the mind, just how extraordinary our soul/sensitivities are, and how penetrating our senses will be, now that we are free of that terrible preoccupation and alienation.
To explain the human condition, in providing that essential ‘mustard seed of truth’ as you say, Jeremy’s approach has necessarily been holistic. As Jeremy explains in Freedom, ‘Only a human-condition-confronting-not-avoiding approach—the holistic approach taken in this book – – could find the answers to all the great outstanding questions in science’. That holistic approach includes not only confronting the human condition, but as part of that, recognising humanity’s great state of denial of the human condition, which meant also explaining the psychological state of Resignation, whereby we submit to a life of psychological denial, a life of deadness and blindness, rather than facing the suicidal depression that accompanied acknowledging our corrupted state. This is the real holistic explanation for humanity’s blindness and ‘deathness’—the ‘deaf effect’ is psychologically driven; when the resigned brain hears discussion of the historically off-limits subject of the human condition, it is the fearfully blocks that discussion out.
So, to explain the human condition Jeremy’s work is necessarily a holistic, rather than a reductionist treatise. Freedom essay 4 is a very good one to confirm this thinking as it references the work of great thinkers throughout history to evidence Jeremy’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ treatise.
You have obviously done a lot of studying in your life Realised-Being but my experience with this information the WTM is presenting is that it is really ‘out of the box’ of anything that we have ever encountered before, and thus it takes time to really absorb the true significance of it. Our historical fear of the human condition, which you express so well, has been so great, that it takes us a while for that to subside and really hear what is being presented. I really love your metaphors such as ‘reconciling explanation of alienation could sweep the globe like a bush fire’ and it will Realised-Being and the movement has already started in abundance. Maybe your course will end up being a different one, but again, just as you say let’s keep dong everything we can to bring ‘humanity’s world view from the darkness within, and usher in the perennial hope of an age of peace and prosperity’!

Hi guys, there’s a really good freedom essay on this, called can human conflict ever be brought to an end? As always this info brings a crystal clear understanding of the issue and solution, couldn’t recommend it more.

Hi guys, There’s a new freedom essay with the interview between Aussie broadcaster Brian Carlton and Jeremy, it’s number 6, and as it says there it’s very ‘illuminating’, recommended watching and to pass on to interested friends, it covers a lot and I think would help others see what the deaf effect is and why it’s such an initial obstacle. It’s been helpful for my contacts, and I enjoyed it myself immensely! https://www.humancondition.com/freedom-essays/wonderfully-illuminating-discussion/

You’re spot on Marty, this information does explain we are upset but fundamentally good and that golden truth opens up a whole new world for humans free of any condemnation or guilt or insecurity. There aren’t any truths now that condemn or hurt us now we can understand the human condition. Our fear of the human condition is really a thing of the past, when we didn’t have understanding. It certainly does take time to adjust to having the ‘lights on’ which is a process to be respected, but I’m with you, let’s live in world of knowledge this explanation opens up!

If anyone is genuinely interested I find watching the intro videos on the WTM’s homepage with them is helpful, the more you listen and read the more your mind is reassured that there we can ‘confront’ the HC now, rather than be terrified of it, and those intro videos seem designed to help that process. Just my observations.

Was recently helping a friend understand how we became altruistic, and re-read Jeremy’s essay 21 and also the brief FAQ and thought I’d put it on the Forum too for others, because they are so brilliant and helpful. What an amazing past we have!

Only things I thought to pass on in addition to Chris’ thorough reply, in case of some assistance Mark is that the homepage says that the first 4 videos are key and in my experience that is a great guide. The 4th one has a section which explains why having moral instincts caused a ‘double whammy’ effect of criticism from our loving dictatorial non-instighful instincts which is a helpful section. And I love the 10th video too, including the section titled ‘Our immense guilt and insecurity about our fundamental worth and goodness has been driving our behaviour’. (These videos and other freedom essays are a brilliant place to start as they breakdown Jeremy’s book ‘Freedom’ into sections, and you probably feel you have your hands full there Mark for now, but ‘Freedom’ itself, and particularly Chapter 3 obviously covers it all beautifully too, especially Chap 3.7 “Our instinctive moral conscience has been ‘a sharp accuser, but a helpless friend'”. Anyway a free download from the website if you wanted a look). As you persevere with this stuff, as Chris says, and our historic fear of the human condition slowly breaks down, what becomes really clear is that understanding the battle between our instincts and intellect shows just how deeply insecure we are about our self-worth and that it’s behind all the problems we face individually and as a species. It’s such an amazing breakthrough, we now have knowledge that not only explains and defends us but also transforms us and everything around us, so you’re only going to get more excited Mark! (And the birthday party analogy that Chris refers to is from Jeremy’s first book which I’ve just finished reading and this is the link https://www.humancondition.com/free-story-of-the-birthday-party/#toc-11)

It sounds like you have been on quite an amazing journey over the last 10 years GKroucamp! I wasn’t deeply questioning things at all when I stumbled across this information some time ago now, so I admire you greatly that you were and that you kept the search for truth open. It is just astonishing with this biological explanation the way it just keeps making sense of everything you look at in yourself and in the world. I’ve seen someone describe it as a feast of knowledge and that’s exactly what it feels like!

I like what you say about all cultures coming from the same base line, that makes sense to me as we are all from the same species on exactly the same journey. It reminded me of the book Jeremy quotes from Richard Heinburg called ‘Memories & Visions of Paradise’, there’s a really good section on it in freedom essay4. And I couldn’t agree more that religion and science are now reconciled and it’s so very important that they are.

When you use the terms of the division of spirit and flesh I understand that to mean what Jeremy calls our soul/conscience which is our original all-loving, ‘spritual’ instinctive self, and our mind/intellect that went out in search for knowledge and became upset. The most amazing thing for me is that the ‘negative’ from our upset has now been biologically explained and defended, and we can see that it wasn’t really ‘bad’ afterall and actually all occurred for an amazingly heroic reason. It is such a profound turn around. Our loving ‘positive’ soul and our mind are finally reconciled and indeed even with the whole direction or purpose of life which Jeremy explains as Integrative Meaning (personfied as God)! (By the way if you haven’t already, I found the essays on God (23) and Christ (39) very enlightening and helpful too). Anyway it’s all huge stuff and a lot to adjust to but as you say you just keep following the logic with this stuff and keep applying it to your own experiences and insights and it will just never disappoint you. All the best GKroucamp!

There is no condoning of our upset in ‘Freedom’ Joseph but being able to understand and source where all the horror began IS humanity’s liberation point. This is an important sentence from Chp 3 ‘Importantly, this understanding of why we became upset as a species doesn’t condone or sanction ‘evil’, rather, through bringing understanding to humans’ upset behaviour, it gives us the power to ameliorate and thus subside and ultimately eliminate it.’ All the questions you ask are the fundamental questions that we need answered to progress as a species and there are similarly distressed quotes from Shakespeare and Pascal early in Freedom that you will enjoy. What Freedom unbelievably makes crystal clear is ‘the seemingly-impossible-to-explain paradox of how we humans could be good when all the evidence appeared to unequivocally indicate we were bad’. The significance of this breakthrough for humanitiy is not to be underestimated.

What Jeremy undeniably explains is that we don’t suffer from some kind of a genetic flaw which means our behaviour would be unchangeable, but that we suffer from a psychological problem, a psychosis, and a psychosis can be healed with understanding. Our psychosis is sourced and explained in Chapter 3 with the Adam Stork story. It really does make sense of our human condition, our capacity for both good and evil, why we have the capacity for such destruction and immense greed, ‘horribleness’ and why there is such enormous inequality and disease as you outline above when the ideals are to be utterly cooperative and loving. And it explains that yes, we once lived in this loving ‘paradise’ 2 million years ago before consciousness emerged and a battle broke out between the two. The HUGE game changer here is that our divisive side has finally been explained and defended and that’s what will end all the pain and suffering and bring all the transformational changes we so desperately want in ourselves and for our planet. There is an amazing, profound, meaningful, biological reason WHY we are so unideal and ‘trashed paradise’. I read this wonderful line in Freedom last night “our species’ transformation is being achieved through what is ultimately the only real and lasting and fundamentally responsible way it could be—through satisfying our conscious thinking mind with first-principle-based, biological understanding of why humans are wholly worthwhile and meaningful beings.” As I’ve also read somewhere on the WTM’s website we had to understand our way to freedom!

Yes this is a very exciting arena brenan, and yes very humbling for me too. There is a lot to get your head around with this biological understanding of the human condition, it goes very deep and the more you look into it, the more you see the significance of what Jeremy has explained, and how liberating it is. You will see we are no longer walking around ‘figuring all this stuff out as we go’ but that our accumulation of knowledge means we’re now finally able to bring scientific understanding to our lives. Jeremy’s work is on the shoulders of all those who have gone before him such that the whole human situation has now been made transparently clear and from any angle you look at, be it religious or philosohical or political (Jeremy’s book Freedom and the essays cover all these topics and more including the three questions above). Solving the human condition required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect (which gave rise to our consciousness) and instincts (our conscience) work, and that is what Jeremy has found. Video 4 is a personal favourite, it documents other thinkers who have recognised instinct and intellect elements involved in creating the human condition.

You couldn’t be spreading better Christmas tidings DaveH! I agree that if we keep our eyes open there are many opportunities to promote and support this world-saving information, everyone needs it so desperately. It’s the only solution to the horrific state of affairs right across the world, and what an amazing solution it is!
