Take care, lest you allow your rational mind to completely overpower your natural, spiritual impulses. That is also a major problem facing humanity today. If you are interested in the counter-productivity of competitive human behavior, please check out the Game Theories of mathematician John Nash, who came up with the concept of the Nash Equilibrium. Cooperative behavior produces much better results than competitive behavior. Much like the Latter-Day Saints, I also believe that the so-called Fall of man was actually a tremendous evolutionary leap forward. Forbidden fruit will always drive humanity in exciting new directions. I have a couple of theories which may account for the so-called “Fall” of humanity. 1. Primitive man came to recognize his own reflection, perhaps in a pool or stream of clear water. This was the beginning of self-awareness, which has largely come to define the human race, in comparison with other, less sentient species. (According to Greco-Roman mythology, this event may also account for the origin of human self-centeredness and narcissism.) 2. Primitive humans gradually learned to actually fall in love with their mates, so that they ceased to be driven by wholly unconscious reproductive drives. They ceased to be completely at the mercy of their environment, and seized control of their destiny. Females, contrary to the teachings of many modern religious schools of thought, are naturally the dominant gender, since they give birth, and breast-feed their offspring, creating a natural psychological bond. The unstated goal of much of modern organized religion is to re-assert the dominance of males, and level the playing field between the genders.

Finally I can say to my instinctive side. You are not the devil and I am not the devil. This is mitigating evidence of the beauty of our own creation. Thank you.

Dr. Paseka Colwell Mokoena

I’m seriously interested in this science. I have heard snippets from popup ads online. I want to dedicate time to it. From the bit I saw, the contributions are very valid.

Jim Birch Howard County MD USA

Great interview. A lot to take in. I do believe that having an absence of ego brings to the affected human to have a life of no accomplishments and no drive. Also having a lack of aggressive behavior in total will produce vast humans with no goal planning. Think of researchers in a lab. Sports teams, etc.

WTM Admin

What we can now understand is that while we didn’t have the explanation for our non-ideal or corrupted condition, our ‘drive’ was coming off an insecure base to prove ourselves. Finally having the biological explanation for why we are fundamentally good removes that insecurity, but importantly, this does not bring about a ‘directionless’, ‘driveless’ state, rather the incredible sensitivity and happiness that will come to humans from being able to access the world of our soul again will mean our lives have a depth and potential that we have hardly dared to dream of. For more about how this transforms our lives visit our Transformation page.

Please look at Allan N Schore PHD’s book series starting with “Affect Regulation and the Origin of the Self” plus ~ other books in that series. COMPLETELY related to what you are discussing

WTM Admin

Dr Allan N Schore is certainly, as the American Psychoanalytic Association describes him ‘a monumental figure in psychoanalytic and neuropsychoanalytic studies’ and his work is a great contribution to such fields. However, the WTM maintains that to be able to truly heal the universal psychosis we all suffer from we have to solve the human condition—end the underlying, core insecurity in humans about why, when the ideals are to be loving and cooperative, we are so selfish and competitive. This required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great breakthrough biologist Jeremy Griffith has found. We certainly invite you to see whether this key unlocking point gives you an even deeper appreciation for Dr Schore’s wonderful contribution. As distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen wrote in the Introduction to Jeremy’s book FREEDOM, ‘Jeremy is the ultimate psychotherapist, the psychotherapist for psychotherapists—in fact, all the great theories I have encountered in my lifetime of studies of psychiatry can be accounted for under his explanation of human origins and behavior.’

Shaminderjit

I am slowly going through the WTM essays. It is very thought provoking and useful in my effort to understand the purpose and meaning of life. Thank you very much.

Rob Rohrke

I have to say this understandings is basically a modern parallel of the gospel of Jesus Christ. So let’s listen carefully...see how on the money this is.

WTM Admin

Jeremy Griffith’s treatise reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts such as sin and judgment day etc. In fact what people discover is it is the fulfillment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves, see FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’ and FAQ 6.2 ‘What is God’.

Let me admit that my (initial) perspective of “the human condition”, as I embark upon exploring the contents of this video, is derived from (late in life) commitments to theological foundations within Christianity and my current endeavors to cultivate a sincere and disciplined response to Jesus Christ for His sacrifice on my behalf toward restoring a personal relationship within His sovereignty over my life.

Josephine de Bono

Good news. Looking forward to learning more.

It makes so much sense to me! The way you have used science to support what all religion and most mythologies have identified is genius. The example of Adam and eve has possibly changed my complete way of thinking!!!

So insightful. I am still trying to digest all that has been said, I have been searching for so long through research, science, religion, spirituality, the Bible for answers. This insight really provides more answers that I can understand. Thank you so much.

Julie Thompson

I am listening to this ..but I’m religious .so it does not really ring true to me

Julie Thompson

I must say...as I’m listening to this...making alot of sense ...and linking biological to spiritual ..innocence to awareness. You can see why going by your instincts is the best way...too much awareness can cause confusion.

It was lovely to watch

All the eastern religions and especially Buddhism have been saying all along. The west and scientists must have humility to look at other sources of knowledge with open mind.

WTM Admin

This critical new holistic science reconciles mechanistic science, religion and spirituality because at last our mind can understand why when the ideals – that religions upheld – are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? In the days of Buddha for example, there was no capacity to explain the truth about our world in first principle, scientific terms. What Jeremy Griffith is putting forward in his books is that for there to be a fundamental change in our human situation we had to understand the human condition – humans’ capacity for good and evil – from a biological perspective.

Umar Shariff

A big thank you for telling us your findings of human race being good Good luck with all your work I will be talking about you at the next dinner party

Extraordinary information

Richard Hayes QLD Australia

To whoever posted this incredible video on Facebook my deepest and sincerest thank you! And to Jeremy Griffith WOWWW possibly the greatest “Gift” modern humanity has yet received? Thank you thank you thank you Sir for having the intelligence and the ability to put this all together! I am no qualified Physiologist, Biologist or even Humanist! But I can so clearly identify with what you are saying and explaining. My own thought are something like this, There is NO condemnation like “Self Condemnation” and I think this is the source of a great deal of humanities suffering? When “others”condemn us this is painful and it is akin to the the first planting of a tiny seed! When other “others” further condemn us that reinforces the “seed” and it’s development. Then as even more ,“others”, condemn us we begin to unconsciously nurture and water that seed with our own “Personal Belief System”! We begin “Self Condemnation”. Suddenly all too late we realise that now we have a “MASSIVE TREE” of “Self Condemnation” deeply planted and firmly rooted in our Psyche! The TREE then becomes our place of “Refuge”! When really what WE must do is to “ABANDON” such “TREES”? Supposedly some Millennia ago that’s exactly what we did, WE abandoned the Trees to live on the ground as “Humans”? But it appears that WE are still learning to “ABANDON” our “Psychological Trees”? This “BOOK” this new understanding has the ability to truly bring US out of the TREES to begin to be the Species we were always meant to be? A Species worthy of being called “HUMANITARIAN beings”! Written with the deepest and sincerest respect to the Authors and Producers of this video and to the many other commentators. Sincerely Richard Hayes S.H.I.P.

Many movements can be twisted many ideas can be corrupted. I do hope with all my heart that this does spread to the mass society, but to keep an open mind what this entails. This can put the players of society, politics, and psychiatry on the same field, with humility and understanding of each other.

Thanks!

Very interesting. Explains the constant fights we battle within between instincts and the search for truth and the meaning of our existence. Trying constantly to overcome our fear of stepping out of our comfort zones to explore our full potential or soul purpose.

What is CRT? Critical Race Theory? What does this mean? Please explain.

WTM Admin

You can read a full analysis of left-wing thinking, including Critical Race Theory, in Jeremy Griffith’s new book Death by Dogma, which is available here on our homepage HumanCondition.com. The following passage is from Death by Dogma: “To impose a new world of love and kindness between ethnic groups or races, it was simply asserted that it was philosophically sound to claim that there is no difference between races; and further that any contention that there were differences was just a dishonest, manipulative, racist, artificially invented device used to oppress and ill-treat certain races. Essentially, there was no recognition at all that humans are involved in a grand project that has inevitably resulted in everyone and every related group of humans being differently upset by their inevitable different encounters with that upsetting grand project. No human condition to find understanding of, just dogmatically ‘change’ our behaviour, as Marx said…The fact is, the postmodern, politically correct, critical theory culture, with its Critical Race and Gender Theories, Identity Politics, Wokeness, Cancel Culture and Great Reset agenda, represented the very height of dishonesty, the most sophisticated expression of denial and delusion to have developed on Earth. Terminal alienation was indeed upon us, an extinction of our species was just around the corner!”

Mike Fabbi

Much needed to help with the confusion. Thank you

Helen Edel

Finally things are making sense, thanks

Dianne

Very profound. But, trying to convince the world of this psychosis, is another story. I say this because, a close friend of mine begs to differ and believes I am gullible and naive. In other words, finds this video unbelievable. I simply want to say, thank you both for enlightening me and others😊

WTM Admin

Yes the very nature of the human condition means explanation of it can be initially difficult to access because it has been a terrifying subject that until we could solve we had to live in denial of, see FAQ 1.16 about this initial ‘deaf effect’. But take heart Diane as we are rapidly gaining more and more interest and support as you can see from the excitement and relief in our ecstatic responses and our many global WTM Centres on our homepage! You can also see the outstanding commendations Jeremy Griffith’s work has received from scientists and thought leaders around the world.

Gabrielle

Marxism also denies the naturalness of human competition and says the “psychosis” is based in our political economic systems. I’ve always liked that explanation.

WTM Admin

In Jeremy Griffith’s new book Death by Dogma, which is available here on our homepage HumanCondition.com, it is explained that while Marxism denies the naturalness of human competition, it avoids the real issue of the human condition, and so is unable to actually get to the source of our psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated state and thus ameliorate it and bring about a truly cooperative world. The following passage is from Death by Dogma: “Basically, Marx had already recognised the problem of the ‘red in tooth and claw’, ‘selfishness is the law of the jungle’ world we live in, and because that is seemingly all science will tell us, we have to in effect bypass science and just dogmatically impose the cooperative, ideal world that is needed. What Marx realised is that the way to avoid this ‘we are naturally savage, competitive and aggressive’ idea was to limit any discussion of our selfish and selfless human nature to only acknowledging that we do all have some basic needs which, as the political theorist Norman Geras summarised in his 1983 book Marx and Human Nature, is ‘for other human beings [selflessness], for sexual relations, for food, water, clothing, shelter, rest and, more generally, for circumstances that are conducive to health [selfishness]’ (p.72 of 126). In fact, Marx took this ‘all we have is some basic needs’, ridiculously false idea to the extreme by maintaining that we are essentially born a ‘blank slate’, that our mind has no innate traits and can be inscribed at will. The fraudulent beauty of this idea that our ‘nature’ was a ‘self-creation’ (Karl Marx, Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844) was that Marx was then able to argue that it was social pressures that created our behaviour, and so all we need is a ‘practical movement’ to ‘change’ society in order to create a more loving world.”

Jasna Bruce

I am a psychologist and audiologist and listened with interest to the interview with Jeremy. Overall I see it is plausible from a scientific and religious perspective too, I tried to apply it to different struggles in life eg LGBT community, plight of women, and it seems to explain the hardships of minority groups well. Not sure about individuals with psychosis. I guess the real test of this theory is using the rationale as an intervention and measuring outcomes?

WTM Admin

To be able heal humanity’s, and our individual psychoses, we needed to answer the essential question of why, when the ideals are to be loving and selfless, are we so competitive and selfish? It is this question of questions that Jeremy Griffith has solved. At last we have the desperately needed and completely redeeming, uplifting and healing biological understanding of the core mystery and problem about human behaviour of our so-called ‘good and evil’-stricken human condition. Our healing will be a process and individuals will continue to need professional counselling, but that macro truth looks after all humans now. Certainly in the future we will see more and more people benefiting from this understanding, but as a Neil Sullivan commented on this thread below “All that I have learned from psychoanalytic thinking and practice is supported in this interview; the psychopathology of power, greed and domination can be individually overcome through understanding of the human condition; the collective unconscious can then gradually change our activities to ones that are in harmony with one another and all living forms on the planet.”

Please tell me where our loving and caring God fits into this point of view????

WTM Admin

In explaining the human condition there is so much to absorb, but with regards to the demystification of God as Integrative Meaning, as is explained in FAQ 6.2, “all the attributes we have imbued ‘God’ with—‘His’ lovingness of our fallen state, ‘His’ reassurance that if we are as true to him as we can be all will be okay in the end, ‘His’ kindness towards all forms of suffering, ‘His’ essential ‘goodness’, ‘His’ ‘bigness’ in every sense; namely ‘His’ universality, ‘His’ omnipotence (all-powerfulness), omnipresence (all-presentness) and omniscience (all-knowingness)—are actually now confirmed and reinforced by our ability to understand ‘Him’; but this sudden demystification of ‘God’ may take some time to adjust to. In fact, in fairness to how much we 2-million-years-corrupted humans have needed the support of a metaphysical ‘God’, almost everyone should expect some shock and resistance to have to work through when absorbing the scientific explanation of ‘God’.” We also recommend FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’.

Margarita J

I really appreciate your video and the knowledge provided, it is a very interesting approach to the human condition and brokenness. I find the truth needed to my whole understanding and resolving my difficulties in life. I hope I can learn more. I am however Christian and do believe in Creation I have to put the two together processing all this New concept. Thanks again. Margarita

WTM Admin

What a wonderfully authentic comment Margarita. The human condition is the study of humans’ capacity for so-called ‘good and evil’and is the realm of inquiry where science and religion overlap, so in explaining the human condition religion is demystified and explained. Of course this presents a massive paradigm shift in our thinking but the more you absorb this understanding the more you see Jeremy Griffith’s work actually reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. In fact what you discover is it is the fulfillment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves, see FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’ and FAQ 6.2 ‘What is God’.

This is almost going in the direction of Singers the Untethered soul. How can we penetrate Society and share this so that millions are relieved of unwanted pain. Great interview based on fact …

WTM Admin

It’s wonderful you enjoyed THE Interview Jacinta. Certainly what is being presented represents a reconciliation of intellect and soul, but rather than offering a way to return to soul by managing our pain or psychological upset by training our mind to stay in the present (as Michael Singer’s book The Untethered Soul does), what is unique about Jeremy Griffith’s treatise is that it confronts and biologically explains why we became so upset (see FAQ 4.1 How can everyone’s lives be transformed?). Anything less was a false start to a human-condition-free world, was what could be described as ‘pseudo idealistic’, because the upsetting battle to find knowledge, ultimately self-knowledge, the psychologically relieving understanding of why we are good and not bad, still had to be completed. FAQ 6.5 further explains this critical difference.

Eleanor Hamilton

Excellent and so true!

James

Certainly interesting but I wish the presenter, instead of regurgitating everything he said and being all giddy had actually tried to critically challenge the theory. The theory that we are all in fact ‘good’ therefore we can be free of our psychosis is fundamentally flawed. So many people who do harm already have the belief they are good. Therfore, by reinforcing this nition can only reinforce in their own minds they arevjustified acts. Thus, having the opposite effect to ‘saving mankind’. In reality, it will potentially lead to its destruction quicker.

WTM Admin

The biological explanation of the human condition presented in THE Interview is not a feel good, superficial affirmation of human nature (which might have reinforced deluded ‘harmful’ behaviour), rather it is the psychosis confronting, rational, accountable, biological reason for why we are good, and by getting to the source of our psychologically upset state it heals that state; it actually defuses and removes the need to be psychologically defensive, and in extreme conditions cause harm. See FAQ 4.2 How does this rehabilitate ‘evil’? / Does this condone ‘evil’ behaviour?

William Singleton

I find such a biological explanation that references “adam and eve” (in which eve takes the bite of knowledge) has very little reinforcement of the female perspective of existence. There is a “dangerous” amount of white male explanation.

Lynda Melles

Interesting. Religions are static and people need a 21st century understanding of human evolvement.

Maxine walton

Stunned but makes so much sense

Dr Lisa Bennett,Ph.D,LMFT

I would like to review your program.

Wilhelmina M Miller

This paradym shifting 150 year old human condition “truth” according to this Australian Biologist to me is understandably one many people will begin to embrace. Without true understanding about mankind’s emurgence and true beginnings, explanations by mortal men and women scientists will be accepted. The truth shall set us free indeed. And that truth is only based on the fact that before the first man disobeyed the given instructions, something major changed. Perfection and etopia disappeared, and man was no longer good and all mankind following thereafter. A loving world will only once appear when the Creator physically will step in.

Cloete Gerrit Rian

Great stuff

Denise

This all makes perfect sense. So how do we involve ‘real science’ and not big pharma who have massive vested interests in convincing humanity it can only all be addressed by pills, potions and poisons?

WTM Admin

It takes a little time to see how this ‘perfect sense’ does solve all our problems but with the source of our psychosis compassionately understood it actually stops the need for selfish behaviour. Even those currently motivated by vested interests will eventually be won over by how accountable and liberating this is. See FAQ 1.6 Why does understanding solve everything?

Austin

How does he just go from talking about the destructive dogmatic left, to “that’s why there is no need for the right wing, we can unite under the left” with no explanation of that sudden twist?

WTM Admin

In finally having the human condition explained there is a lot to absorb but if you follow the logic more slowly you will see there is no sudden twist in argument. THE Interview explains the search for knowledge, namely the search for understanding of our ‘good and evil’-stricken human condition, has been all-important, and so even though the right wing’s selfishness is destructive, paradoxically it is the left-wing of politics that poses the real threat to humanity because its dogmatically imposed pseudo idealism gravely endangers freedom of thought and therefore that all-important search for understanding. When Jeremy Griffith says we all ‘effectively become left-wing’ he is referring to the fact that with the human condition now solved the justification for the egocentric power-fame-fortune-and-glory-seeking way of life espoused by the right-wing ends, and we can legitimately return to a cooperative, idealistic way of living without it being pseudo idealistic—see FAQ 7.2.

karine

bonsoir, Idem comme Marc, je ne comprends pas très bien l’anglais. Avez-vous l’interview en français svp ? Merci par avance, [Good evening, Same as Marc, I don’t understand English very well. Do you have the interview in French please? Thanks in advance, (translated from French)]

I only listened to ten minutes and did NOT like it at all!.He probably is right on the physical reasonswhich is normal because he is only tackling the physical (psychological is also physical, it comes out of the physical brain) reasons. I won’t go further because I know that all of you who loved it are only physical.

jer knapp

It makes sense that, as rational beings, we are not acting on sheer instinct like animals. There is definitely a level of higher consciousness to be accessed.

Damien farquhar

Makes sense

Dag Sture Olsen

The world is now in a deep crisis which not at all only a bad thing- for sure it forces us to change - which truly is what we need. This initiative coinsides SO strong with all what is happening in the world now and its a hugely welcoming and important one. It is sure heartwarming to observe that science more and more awakens to what has been conveyed from spiritual leaders for a while. So it now seems that a huge change is about to materialise as more than thoughts and ideas and that we are about to se more and more people waking up to a new and better world- the one we all really want.

WTM Admin

This critical new holistic science reconciles mechanistic science and spirituality because at last our mind can understand why when the ideals, that spirituality upheld, are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? This is why it is heralded as the breakthrough that can bring about the ‘huge change’ we so desperately need and ‘all really want’!

Fascinating, how we got to this state we are in.

This concept could be the blueprint to save this planet and life on it as we know it.

Sorry, I would like it, but I don’t understand very well english. Do you have this interview in french or in german? Thank you.

WTM Admin

Yes THE Interview and many of our other publications have been translated into various languages, including French and German, which you can freely access here or on our homepage there is a ‘Translations’ button under ‘The Main Videos’.

Jack

While Mr. Griffith’s intelligence, and experience are undeniable, I am left with not so much as an argument, but rather an itch against his ideas. In treating science as the ultimate authority on all things he has discarded over two thousand years of poets, philosophers, and theologians.

WTM Admin

We appreciate your feedback Jack and there is a lot to absorb, even in this summary presentation. Because the human condition comes down to human biology it is ultimately a question for biologists to answer. However artists and thinkers have grappled with this most profound of questions of whether we are intrinsically good or bad, and one of the remarkable things about Jeremy Griffith’s definitive book FREEDOM is just what an extraordinary collection of profound thought from all ages and fields of endeavour it contains. But it goes the other way too; because not only is art and literature and philosophy used to evidence the truth about our human condition, the biological explanation of the human condition allows us to fully understand so much of the profundity in non-scientific thought that we previously could only intuitively recognise. Again though, as Jeremy he stresses in Part 2 of THE Interview, finding the answer to the human condition ultimately depended on being able to explain our biology: “while it has been recognised—even from ancient times—that the emergence of our conscious mind somehow caused us to ‘fall from grace’, or however you want to describe the corruption of our original innocent cooperative, selfless and loving instinctive state, it wasn’t until science revealed the difference between the gene-based and nerve-based learning systems—which is that genes can orientate but nerves need to understand—that we were finally in a position to explain the good reason for our angry, egocentric and alienated human condition.”     You might be interested to read some of Jeremy’s Freedom Essays, for instance Essay 33 about poet William Wordsworth’s great honesty and Essays 41 – 48 about the meaning of art and culture. Hope this scratches your itch Jack!

Paseka Colwell Mokoena

This sounds essential, its almost psychological sociology.

Dan Wright

The concept sounded very interesting, but the information in your points essentially just says that we have instinctive behavioural traits. The real truth is different but just as simple.

Mr Riven Naidoo

Hi there, I came across this beautiful interview about Love and Consciousness. Well done

The interview is great and the book my Best Buy ever. The concept is so logical & clear- it feels like I could almost have thought of it myself because it just fits in so snuggly & naturally with everything I learned, thought of and valued so far myself. I love Jeremy for this great work! I have complete trust that this simple logic will get it’s effect, what is so clear can’t be hidden for ever.

Roberta Prada

You had me at bonobo! I have been thinking about them for years. I wondered why some are bonobos and some behave like chimps. I do prefer your reasoning. That it is rooted in biology is most encouraging. Thank you!

Julie Hutchinson

Wow - thank you! I’d given up on science. It seemed they’d stop asking questions and just thought they had all the answers.

Celina Urbano

Wish this could be made as a documentary on tv.

Amazing but believable dissertation which should be seen by everyone and respected for what proposes.

Interesting.

Gary Hancq

The first half of this video covered what seemed to me painfully obvious and dull material. I had a hard time staying with it as it seemed like just another hollow theory based on physcho speak and double talk. Perhaps I am further along the path to human understanding, I have never accepted that human beings are bad by nature and that sexual conquest was a mechanism by which we guaranteed the survival of the species. Those things always seemed shallow and they were the ideas of the ignorant to me. Maybe I give others to much credit but it seemed overly obvious and tedious to sit through. But when he finally got to the second answer and started discussing the Benobo Monkeys and the concept that we were once a loving and nurturing species I finally felt that I wasn’t wasting my time. I will definitely be digging in deeper! I suggest that you may want to cull and condense some of the first half of this video or you may lose a lot of people who think this is all physiological double talk. It would be a shame if they didn’t make it to the 2nd question.

It’s great that you will be digging deeper Gary. Unfortunately the vast majority of people do subscribe to the savage instincts ‘excuse’ for our selfish and aggressive behaviour, so it is paramount that is addressed right at the beginning of Part 1. Also, the human condition—the question of whether we are fundamentally good or bad—has historically been such a fearful, off-limits subject that we have mostly had to live in denial of it (see FAQ 1.16), which is why Jeremy goes to so much trouble to explain what the human condition actually is, and by so doing reassures the audience that it is now a ‘safe’ domain to think about. To quote: “We humans have absolutely lived in hope, faith and trust that one day, somewhere, some place, all the efforts of everyone—but of scientists in particular—would finally produce the completely redeeming, uplifting and healing understanding of us humans. I know it must seem outrageous to claim that this goal of goals has finally been achieved, but it has. In fact, the human condition is such a difficult subject for us humans to confront and deal with that I couldn’t be talking about it so openly and freely if it hadn’t been solved.”
