Ted, we suggest that this is the “code” that will allow “us all to love and celebrate our humanity”. What is missing from your frustrated thinking is the understanding that becoming psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated was the price we had to pay in order to persevere with the all-important search for knowledge. It is only through understanding this dark side of ourselves — why we departed from our all-loving instincts and became such apparently selfish monsters — that we could we free ourselves from the human condition and legitimately love ourselves, each other and the world again. (‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it.) It is this understanding that is presented in THE Interview.

Hi Alexander. There is a lot to digest here, but we suggest that we can now know that despite appearing to be totally purposeless, even destructive, our lives have been completely purposeful. We have all been involved in the great search for knowledge, ultimately knowledge of the human condition; and most importantly, we can know that our psychological upset was the price we had to pay for that search, and that the human story presents the greatest, most heroic story ever told.

Through our egoism, we are currently annihilating the only planet that supports life. We are going backwards. Our actions now are ecocidal. How do we sustain life on planet earth while so many are destroying our ecosystems, polluting our rivers, hunting and killing unique wildlife species, while also slaughtering cows, pigs, chickens, and overproducing these creatures. All for money, status, ego and a desire to be “free”? We are selfish fools. Do you know that we have lost 70% of our wildlife species in the last 20 years. These are precious and magical creatures. But our egos prefer to kill and maim.

It is worth pointing out that scholars have long interpreted ‘the tree of knowledge of good and evil’ to mean knowledge of everything rather than simply ‘knowledge of morality’. For example, in his book Genesis, the Old Testament scholar Claus Westermann wrote that the phrase “knowledge of good and evil” is: “… concerned with knowledge (or wisdom) in the general, comprehensive sense. Any limitation of the meaning of “the knowledge of good and evil” is thereby excluded. It can mean neither moral nor sexual nor any other partial knowledge, but only that knowledge which includes and determines human existence as a whole, [the ability to master]… one’s own existence.” Similarly, biblical scholars such as Cyrus H. Gordon (The Bible and the Ancient Near East), Harry M. Orlinsky (notes to the NJPS Torah) and Nicolas Wyatt (Space and Time in the Religious Life of the Near East) have written that the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” should be understood to mean a tree whose fruit imparts knowledge of everything, and does not necessarily contain a moral concept.     Yes, we suggest that the more you consider the interpretation of the Garden of Eden story given in THE Interview, the clearer it becomes that it is a metaphor for the emergence of the conscious mind in the presence of pre-established loving instincts, and how the conscious mind was in effect ‘condemned’ by those instincts, and as a result became angry, egocentric and alienated, in effect, ‘evil’, ‘sinful’, ‘fallen’.

We suggest the idea that we have ‘savage, survival of the fittest’ instincts was just an excuse we had to adopt while we waited for the real explanation for our angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour (this ‘contrived excuse’ is explained in Part 1 of THE Interview); in other words, the characterisation of natural selection as “survival of the fittest” is not the source of our dysfunctional, destructive, “fallen” state. That source, we suggest, is the ‘instinct vs intellect’ clash that is explained in THE Interview, and through explaining it, solved at the most profound level. Just as John Lennon desperately pleaded for honesty in his song Just Gimme Some Truth, finally we have the truth about human condition with Jeremy Griffith’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation! And we can understand the human condition is a universal condition that everyone has suffered from, so thank goodness we have the universal solution to it!

As our FAQ 1.9 ‘Should people be sceptical' explains, the astonishing claims being made about Jeremy Griffith’s work do warrant initial scepticism, however they all withstand scrutiny as what is presented is 100% logic. Yes, we still carry our all-loving instincts with us, the voice of which is our conscience. Thankfully, with the defence for our angry, egocentric now found, those loving instincts no longer criticise us, and we can make peace with them. This really is the “solution to our condition” that we have been working toward since the emergence of the human condition some 2-million years ago, which is when our species became conscious.

Hi Tom. Thanks for your question. Religion isn’t the source of humanity’s ‘burden of guilt’ - we can now understand that it comes from our instincts‘ unwarranted criticism of our conscious mind’s search for knowledge. When humanity became so pyschologically upset from that corrupting search, humanity had to adopt a strategy of denying the human condition completely, and it was at this point that religion became a repository of honesty about our ’fallen state' and the loving and cooperative state from which we had departed. Moreover, religion provided a means of solace for those exhausted by the corrupting journey. So religion has played a world saving role, bring enough honesty and relief to allow the corrupting search to continue. However, it follows that with the redeeming biological understanding of why we had to depart from our original innocence now found, those metaphysical, faith-based accounts that looked after us are now redundant. In fact, what people discover is Jeremy Griffith’s work actually reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. In fact, it presents the fulfilment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves, see our FAQs on religion.

Yes, in FAQ 6.2 Jeremy explains the concept of Integrative Meaning or what we have called ‘God’, and the problems with admitting this: “the theme or purpose or meaning of existence is the ordering or integration of matter, a process that is driven by the physical law of Negative Entropy. There is, however, an immense problem admitting this truth of integrative meaning, and that is it unbearably confronts us with our divisive, seemingly disintegrative selfish, competitive and aggressive human condition. The fact is that for a larger whole to form and hold together (integrate) the parts of that whole must consider the welfare of the whole above their own welfare. Simply stated, selflessness is integrative while selfishness is divisive or disintegrative. But this implies that we selfish and competitive humans have been living in defiance of ‘Integrative Meaning’, living in a way that is out of step with creation! In fact, Integrative Meaning has been such a terrifyingly condemning truth that we divisively behaved humans couldn’t face it. And so, to avoid facing it, we deified the process of Integrative Meaning as ‘God’, thus making it something separate and superior to us, not connected to us in an earthly, practical way. So, ‘God’ is the personification of Integrative Meaning, a personification that was necessary while we selfish and competitive humans couldn’t explain why we were seemingly at odds with ‘God’! IT IS ONLY NOW that we have the redeeming explanation of humans’ divisively behaved human condition, that we can at last afford to demystify ‘God’ as Integrative Meaning. Jeremy Griffith at last provides the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy Griffith presents here. As Part 4 of THE Interview explains, until this understanding was found, leaving or transcending our competitiveness and just embracing cooperative behaviour wasn’t the solution – “make love not war” just doesn’t work until you can solve the underlying problem that is driving the “war”. What is more, these sorts of movements actually impeded the search for that breakthrough understanding. To quote from Part 4: “These movements were pseudo idealistic movements that stifled and oppressed the search for the understanding of our corrupted condition that was needed to actually free us from that state. They were regressive, not progressive”. Thanks very much Rupeni. Yes, Jeremy Griffith’s work doesn’t ignore, exclude or contradict a belief in God, or Christianity. It simply brings biological understanding to all those pre-scientific concepts. In fact, Jeremy considers the Bible to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from a pre-science view.     Hi Ross, while great care has been taken to present the explanation as quickly and simply as possible (which is done in Part 1 of THE Interview), opening up the underlying issue in all human affairs of the human condition does mean that there are several absolutely critical questions to be answered, which make up Parts 2, 3 & 4 of THE Interview. However, FAQ 1.3 presents a very brief summary of the key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept presented. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition.     Also Ross, the very nature of the human condition means discussion of it can be initially difficult to access. This is because historically the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad has been the most terrifying of all subjects to face, and so we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it, which means our minds can initially struggle to hear and absorb discussion about it. Then, not knowing why we can’t take in what’s being written, we can become frustrated and blame the presentation, believe it’s badly written or is repetitive or needs summarising. Wonderfully, however, this ‘deaf effect’ can be overcome with patient perseverance and everyone can access this most wonderful of all gifts of understanding the human condition! This is explained in FAQ 1.16 and Jeremy Griffith’s astonishingly revealing presentation, The Great Guilt that causes the Deaf Effect which is the next introductory video to watch after THE Interview and it is here on our website.

Good on you Barry as this critical new science does introduce a massive paradigm shift so having an open mindset to ‘give it a try’ is the perfect approach!! This biological understanding of the human condition really is the universal solution to all the problems we face, it’s just that it has a slow start-up phase. As WTM founding member Tony Gowing says in Freedom Essay 5 “Really, the transformation of the world is already a fait accompli, a certainty—sure, it will take a little time to get started, but what will win the day is logic. Humans are thinking, rational beings so when all the logic points in one direction then there is really no choice but for every single human to take that path, and eventually they will. It will be slow for a start because humans hate and resist change, but nonetheless change does happen when an idea’s time has come. As author Victor Hugo famously said, ‘An invasion of armies can be resisted but not an idea whose time has come’ (Histoire d’un crime, 1852). And with all the crises and suffering and mental agony in the world now, this idea’s time has most certainly come!” So, as with any new scientific breakthrough in history, it may take time for people to realise this is what it says it is but once this catches on — through people recognising the importance of it — the infectious enthusiasm and selfless love it liberates will spread like wildfire. Hi Gurbakh, thank you for your comment and yes our learning or search for knowledge never stops as is explained in our FAQ 1.36 ‘Does the search for knowledge end now that the explanation of the human condition has been found?’ however it can now progress in a human-condition-resolved way. If you haven’t already, we encourage everyone to watch THE Interview as it’s the ideal introduction to Jeremy Griffith’s breakthrough resolution of the human condition. It explains that explanation of the human condition is the fundamental understanding our conscious mind has been in search of ever since we corrupted our innocent instinctive state, because it was only by finding that redeeming understanding that we could end the underlying guilt and insecurity from destroying that original innocent state that lies at the heart of everyone’s psychosis (soul-illness) and neurosis (mind-illness). So having found this key explanation does not mean that the search for knowledge now ends however, instead, as Jeremy explains in FREEDOM (par 1136), being at last free of that fundamental insecurity, it can now progress in a healthy, truthful way: “Of course, the search for knowledge will continue, but not from a basis of dishonest denial, and with the key piece of knowledge we needed found of the explanation of the human condition, the priority for the immediate future will be—as will be explained in the next chapter—to take up the human-condition-reconciled Transformed Way of Living.” Part 4 of THE Interview introduces the Transformed Way of Living and people can learn more about it in Section 4 of our FAQs.

    Hi William, when reference is made in THE Interview to “individuals that came to the understanding of it”, the point being made is that while they recognised the instinct vs intellect elements of the human condition, they were not able to solve the issue of why they came into conflict. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy Griffith presents here. This is summarised in our FAQ 1.13 which you may find helpful.     Also THE Interview explains that humans need for power and domination is not driven by us having savage animal instincts but by a psychosis caused by a clash between our intellect and cooperative instincts. So we can now understand that manipulative, oppressive and discriminatory behaviour is psychological in origin and significantly, since a psychosis can be healed with understanding, human behaviour is not unchangeable or immutable – a revelation that transforms the human race. We did want to clarify that although this is science, it is based on a Godly nature in the sense of recognising, like all the great religions do, that we humans once lived in a pre-human-condition-afflicted state of original innocence where we were perfectly instinctively orientated to the cooperative, selfless, loving, ‘Godly’ ideals of life; ‘God’ being explained in as being the integrative meaning of life. While it takes some time to digest, we suggest that what is unique about Jeremy Griffith’s work is that he has answered the essential question of why, when the universal ideals are to be integrative are we so disintegrative? Our endeavours in philosophy, psychology and biology have failed, until now, to provide a truthful, real, fully accountable, genuinely clarifying explanation. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents here. We suggest FAQ 1.13 ‘Is this original or new?’ and Video/Freedom Essay 4 which expands further on other thinkers (both ancient and contemporary) who have recognised instinct and intellect elements involved in creating the human condition.     And it does take a little time to fully absorb the significance of finally being able to understand the human condition, which is what has been needed to finally be able to have “unconditional love for ourselves and others”. At last we can understand we have been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because at last we have the first principle-based science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. Yes, the human situation is very quickly becoming dire. However, it isn’t too late to save the world as long as people who do appreciate its truth, support it. Thanks for the comment John. We are not sure what aspect of Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of ‘socialism’ and/or the left wing more generally, that you are struggling with. Jeremy explains that while it is of course important to look after the less fortunate in our society, the objection to left wing ideology is that it stifles the individualism and freedom of thought that humanity needed to find understanding of the human condition. As Jeremy points out in FREEDOM, “Karl Marx, the political theorist whose mid-nineteenth century ideas gave rise to socialism and communism, argued that ‘The philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways; the point is [not to understand the world but] to change it.’ By ‘change it’ Marx meant just make it cooperative or social or communal, but he was wrong—the whole ‘point’ and responsibility of being a conscious being is to understand our world and place in it, ultimately to find understanding of the human condition.
