As THE Interview explains, for humans to return to our original cooperative, loving and nurturing instinctive behaviour, we had to first confront and solve the human condition. We had to answer the age-old question of why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. It is only with the intellect defended for why it had to defy our loving instincts and become angry, egocentric and alienated, do we have the foundation to legitimately “interact with love and a sense of nurturing toward one another”; that is, return to that non-upset ideal state or home we’ve longed for, but with understanding, in a fully conscious way; as the poet T.S. Eliot anticipated, ‘We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time’ (Little Gidding, 1942).

Although this is science, it is based on a Godly nature in the sense of recognising, like all the great religions do, that we humans once lived in a pre-human-condition-afflicted state of original innocence where we were perfectly instinctively orientated to the cooperative, selfless, loving, ‘Godly’ ideals of life; ‘God’ being explained in as being the integrative meaning of life. We suggest that the more you digest this explanation, the more you will see that it does not rob life or explanations of life of its ‘spiritual’ dimension.     Solving the human condition solves all the confusion, frustration and suffering in human life at its source, it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough - and it applies to everyone. As Jeremy Griffith writes in Freedom Essay 50: “The gateway to freedom is now WIDE open to everyone. Yes, in Martin Luther King Jr’s words, ‘allow freedom to ring…​from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city’ because ‘all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics’, the more innocent and the more upset, the short and the tall, the big and the small, those who are left-handed and those who are right-handed, the butcher, the baker and the candlestick-maker, EVERYONE, can ‘join hands and sing’, ‘Free at last!      There is a lot to digest here Steve, so we advise everyone to take their time and advance slowly. One thing we would point out is that we can now understand that our core instinctive orientation is to be loving and cooperative (see more on this in Freedom Essay 21). However, unable to defend our non-loving, divisive behaviour, admitting our core instinctive orientation was to be loving and cooperative left us unbearably condemned, and so we employed the false excuse that we have savage instincts like other animals.     With regard to the fundamental question of why “following intelligence instead of instincts would traumatise someone”, as is explained in Part 1 of THE Interview, because instincts are genetic orientations, when we begin to experiment with self-management and ‘stray off course’ as it were, those instincts are going to dogmantically try to ‘pull us back onto course’ as it were. In effect our instincts criticised our diversions from their dictates; tragically they condemned our exercises in self-managment as bad. Unable to explain why we had to search for knowledge, the intellect became insecure in the face of this criticism, and became psychologically upset.

As Jeremy Griffith points out in Part 2 of THE Interview the issue of the human condition has been such a denied and off-limits subject that confronting it represents the “biggest of all blasphemies”, and how “science progresses funeral by funeral” when it comes to supporting big paradigm shifts like this. So it is up to the resolve of individuals to help the WTM break through the road block of the legitimate fear and resulting deaf effect the subject of the human condition causes in most people.

As THE Interview explains all humans are born with loving moral instincts but we now variously suffer from a psychosis due to the human condition and, in the extreme, that psychologically conflicted upset state produces extremely destructive behaviour, including extreme states of egocentricity and narcissism, known as psychopaths or power addicts. Of course this breakthrough explanation doesn’t condone or sanction the horrendous atrocities humans can commit rather, through bringing compassionate understanding to the source of humans’ upset behaviour, it gives us the power to ameliorate and thus subside and ultimately eliminate it, see FAQ 1.38 ‘Aren’t some people just born psychopathic, or even ‘evil’?

Indeed! With the redeeming understanding of our condition now found, we can now understand that the “fall”, our ‘corrupted’ estrangement from our all-loving instinctive self or soul, was absolutely necessary, because we had to master the conscious mind, with its unparalleled ability to allow us to manage events. The “fortunate” result of our “fall” is that we can now return to a cooperative and loving state, but in a fully conscious, fully reconciled, state. As the poet TS Eliot wrote, “We shall not cease from exploration / And the end of all our exploring / Will be to arrive where we started / And know the place for the first time".

What is key to the explanation of the human condition is that we can now understand from scientific first principles that all humans are fundamentally good, so there is no need, to use religious terminology, ‘to save our soul’ – humanity has been ‘good’ all along. Unlike Christianity for example, where ‘Adam and Eve’ were condemned as ‘sinful’ for searching for knowledge, we can now understand that ‘Adam and Eve’ were ‘good’ to search for knowledge, not bad or ‘evil’. And with that redeeming answer to the human condition now found, our psychological upset (so called ‘sinful’ or ‘fallen’ state) can actually subside.
