However, the human condition, our ‘good and evil’ conflicted condition, is the realm of inquiry where science and religion overlap, so in explaining the human condition, religion is also explained. This represents a reconciliation of science and religion, and so it makes sense that when people who have adhered to a religion all their lives see this complimenting understanding, they reach for religious terminology with which to express their excitment. Part 4 of THE Interview, titled ‘How does the psychological rehabilitation of the human race that the arrival of understanding of the human condition finally makes possible actually occur?’, presents the answer to how this understanding allows us to transform our lives. It explains that it will take a number of generations for the upset within us to be completely healed but it also stresses importantly we can be immediately free of its effects. Certainly there is habituation to overcome and humans do find change difficult but at last we can understand our behaviour has been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. So instead of being focused on power, fame, fortune and glory, all our energies will be freed to truly work together on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering and save our world. FAQ 1.40 addresses the questions of ‘How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’

We suggest you need to look deeper Joe because, as THE Interview explains, our greed and need for power, are symptoms of our insecure human condition which all humans suffer from, so ultimately, to reform those behaviours we have to end that underlying insecurity, get to the core of the problem and fix that which is what biologist Jeremy Griffith has done and presents here in THE Interview. What is explained is that our emerging conscious mind came into conflict with our pre-established instincts, causing us to become insecure and psychologically upset, which we then compensate for through selfishness and competitiveness – see FAQ 1.3 for a nutshell summary. Yes, religion has provided a means of transcending ourselves when we grew too psychologically upset - a “spiritual re-birth”. However, while religion has provided an incredible refuge for humanity during its corrupting journey to find understanding, it didn’t deal with the source of our species’ corrupted condition and bring relieving understanding to it, which is what allows the great transformation of the human race now. As Jeremy Griffith explains in his presentation The Great Transformation, "I should also emphasise that while this great transformation of the human race that understanding of the human condition makes possible is similar to a religious transformation in that it involves completely letting go of, or transcending, or being ‘born again’ from, our real, upset self and instead deferring to another way of living, that is where the similarity ends. As I explain in chapter 9:5 of FREEDOM, while religions were an incredibly effective means of containing the upset in humans while the search for understanding of that upset condition was being carried out, the Transformed Way of Living is, in complete contrast, concerned with what happens after that liberating understanding is found and there’s no longer any need for the old, must-prove-our-worth, competitive, selfish and aggressive way of living. While religions were human-condition-relieving, they were not human-condition-resolving like the understanding we are now able to live in support of is."

Jeremy Griffith’s biological ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition allows us to understand the real merits and liabilities of both the left and right wings of politics. For example, when we understand that the search for knowledge, namely the search for understanding of our ‘good and evil’-stricken human condition, has been all-important, we can see that, paradoxically, while the selfishness of the right-wing is destructive, through its support of individualism and freedom of thought, it does encourage that all-important search for knowledge to continue. One the other hand, the left’s dogmatically imposed idealism inhibits freedom of thought and that all-important search for understanding. Jeremy is not demonising the left wing (indeed, in his book FREEDOM he acknowledges the importance of compassion in holding a society together) but rather explains from scientific first principles the serious threat posed by pseudo idealism to humanity’s ultimate goal of finding understanding. No, we can now understand that our natural state is a loving and cooperative, selfless state (see Part 2 of THE Interview), and that our selfish behaviour psychological in origin, the result of us becoming insecure as a result of our instincts‘ tragic criticism of the intellect’s necessary search for knowledge. So we can now understand that unconditional love reinforces this natural loving state (which is what is occurring with bonobos), which results in an adult that is not preoccupied with proving their self-worth, or in other words, is relatively selfless. However, if a child does not recieve unconditional love, they become insecure in their self worth, and if the parents then aquiesce to the child’s every attempt to compensate for this insecurity, the child will become ’spoilt', as the saying goes. We recommend Jeremy’s book Therapy for the Human Condition. Critically, we can now understand it has been humanity’s necessary preoccupation with finding knowledge that has compromised our ability to nurture, which means that no one, whatever their encounter with the human condition, is less worthy than anyone else. The truth is that unable to explain the human condition, people have sought to blame technology for our state, but our use of technology is just a symptom of our condition, not its cause. However, it is true that more and more, technology, in particular communications technology, is helping to spread the degree of alienation and upset in the world. As Jeremy Griffith explains in Part 7 of his book Death by Dogma, “Unaware of the instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition and the ever-increasing levels of anger, egocentricity and alienation that the struggle to find that explanation has unavoidably caused, researchers have sought to blame the on-rush of alienation/​block-out/​denial/​soul-estrangement/​psychosis/​‘universal ruin’ in emerging generations on such superficial causes as the overuse of communication technology, such as the internet, social media, smartphones and computer games. While this technology has very greatly increased and spread alienation by exposing children to all the now overwhelming levels of upset in the world, which destroys their innocent, happy, trusting and loving instinctive self or soul, its overuse, even addiction, is the result of an immense need for distraction from overwhelming internal psychological pain from all their encounters with the human condition, especially during their infancy and childhood.”

In fact Jeremy considers the Bible to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from a pre-science view. He also considers Christ to be one of the greatest, most sound (still able to access the truthful world of his soul), denial-free thinking prophets in history and has written about Christ’s life and its phenomenal importance in humanity’s journey in Freedom Essay 39.     You must watch at least Part 2 of THE Interview, in which it is explained that the story of Adam and Eve is a pre-scientific metaphor for the emergence of consciousness and its clash with our pre-established, cooperative loving instincts, resulting in humans ‘fall’ or them becoming psychologically upset or ‘sinful’. However as Jeremy stresses, we can now understand, from scientific first principles, that ‘Adam and Eve’ were ‘good’ to search for knowledge, not bad or ‘evil’. And with that redeeming answer to the human condition now found, our psychological upset (so called ‘sinful’ or ‘fallen’ state) can actually subside.     We suggest that there is a deeper question that needed to answered. Why, when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless, are we so angry, competitive and selfish? Certainly we can attempt to navigate our way through our psychological landscape by making the best choices we can, but the deeper question is why are we psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated in the first place? We can now understand that this state was actually the result of the emergence of “free will”; when the conscious mind emerged, our pre-established instincts criticised its experiments in self-management, causing us to become psychologically upset.     Significantly psychological upset or a psychosis can be healed with understanding, so our upset behaviour is not unchangeable or immutable – a revelation that transforms the human race!     The central tenet of Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is that humans have a cooperative, loving instinctive heritage, not a brutish, savage and aggressive one, and that the source of our aggression is a psychosis that has been compounding ever since the instinct and intellect clashed some 2 million years ago.     It follows that so called ‘primitive’ or indigenous peoples are still aware of this instinctive heritage that they are to some extent blocked from, and look for ways to bring it to the surface. Yes Jacqueline at last we have the answer to “what happened and why and how it came about in the first place”! The explanation of the human condition unravels and makes sense of the whole seemingly impenetrable and insoluble confusion of human life—and does so in such a simple way—it does appear “basic AND simple”. It brings to mind Thomas Huxley’s famous response to Darwin’s idea of natural selection: “How extremely stupid of me not to have thought of that!” However, in THE Interview Jeremy Griffith answers the question of, “if the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation is so obvious, why weren’t we taught this at school?” and explains the human condition has historically been an off-limits subject, and as a result some people can find it difficult to take in or ‘hear’ discussion of it.     Hi David, thanks for your comment. There is a lot to absorb here, but we suggest that everything you have requested is clearly presented or introduced in THE Interview. Certainly the presentation is not a mechanistic one, but as Jeremy Griffith explains in chapter 2:4 and chapter 2:12 of his definitive book FREEDOM, human-condition-avoiding, mechanistic, reductionist, deductive science is an extremely limited and compromised form of science (see also Freedom Essay/Video 14).     Thankfully mechanistic science can now be replaced by human-condition-confronting-and-solving, truthful, holistic, inductive science, but that does not mean that what Jeremy is presenting is not first principle-based, rational, testable, biological understanding. Any fair scrutiny reveals just how accountable what is being put forward is. What is different, is that unlike mechanistic science, this explanation confronts and explains the human condition. And beyond the inherent logic of the explanation you can know that it has at last got to the bottom of the human condition, because as Jeremy explains in chapter 1:3 of FREEDOM the ultimate test of any hypothesis is how accountable it is of our own lives – as the greatest of all physicists, Albert Einstein, once said that “truth is what stands the test of experience”. And so you can know that this is the breakthrough explanation of the human condition because once you understand the explanation and begin to apply it, you will discover it is so able to make sense of human behaviour it makes it transparent.     For a more in-depth outline of the “exhibit evidence to define a premise” – which is that human’s angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour is a result of the ‘instinct vs intellect’ clash – we suggest you read FREEDOM, as well as FAQ 1.10.
