Deaf Effect Management News

As described in paragraph 153 of Jeremy Griffith’s book The Human Condition, the ‘Deaf Effect’ is such a serious issue because it could stop the human race from achieving its liberation from the human condition, and so we in the World Transformation Movement thought it would be a good idea to create this page to report any news about managing the Deaf Effect.

If you have input for this Deaf Effect Management page, please submit it at www.humancondition.com/contact, and mention it is in regard to this Deaf Effect Management News page.

Perseverance to overcome the Deaf Effect, which is the main technique we advise people to use (see paragraph 153 of The Human Condition)

Lucy said: “I just think persistence is the way to overcome the Deaf Effect. I just kept reading FREEDOM and listening to the videos and sure enough one day the fog seemingly miraculously cleared!”

Mindfulness, meditation and breathing techniques to overcome the Deaf Effect

Many people have told us they use mindfulness and meditation, and also breathing techniques, to help access this information and help bridge the huge paradigm shift that this information unavoidably brings. For example, Craig Conway said once he understood our fear of the human condition and why reading FREEDOM was a painful process for him he would put the book down and use his mindfulness techniques to collect himself and then he was able to go back and continue reading and found his second read so much freer.

De-personalising techniques to overcome the Deaf Effect

Eileen said: “If it can be of any help to others in how to overcome the deaf effect which many experience whilst trying to grapple with the concepts contained within this book. I will share with you my own personal approach to overcoming this massive stumbling block. And it is very simple. I metaphorically put on my white lab coat and became as the scientist overseeing the evolutionary journey of mankind. From a detached perspective, it is not such a shocking and painful experience for us if we can overview this information with an open and clear mind. I also found it of help to me to take on the persona of a very wise psychiatrist compassionately overseeing the resultant psychological turmoil and upheaval experienced by the human race. I had to de-personalise it. And in so doing I feel that I managed to comprehend things in a more expanded and in depth way rather than skimming the surface of things.”

Alienation-loosening medication to overcome the Deaf Effect

Alec suggested “You should attach prescriptions for microdoses of psilocybin with all your books.”

WTM response: As emphasised in the Disclaimer at the bottom of this page, the use of psychedelic substances such as psilocybin remains illegal in most jurisdictions around the world, although there are some jurisdictions where the use of psilocybin is permitted in restricted contexts such as in licensed clinical trials or in regulated therapeutic programs. However, as explained in paragraph 153 of Jeremy Griffith’s book The Human Condition, if the regulatory regime changed, microdoses of the drug psilocybin could potentially be very useful in overcoming the Deaf Effect. The following are some interesting quotes from an online search that describe the alienation-loosening effects of psilocybin, which is emerging as a promising tool in psychotherapy: ‘It creates a “very, very disorganized brain,” ultimately breaking down normal boundaries between the auditory, visual, executive and sense’ (https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/11/health/psilocybin-brain-changes-life-itself-wellness-scn), and that it ‘temporarily scrambles a critical network of brain areas involved in introspective thinking’ (https://medicine.washu.edu/news/mushrooms-generate-psychedelic-experience-by-disrupting-brain-network/). Also, it helps to ‘open up depressed people’s brains’ (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/235514/magic-mushroom-compound-increases-brain-connectivity/) and ‘reduced amygdala response to negative affective stimuli’ (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-59282-y). So, assuming they satisfy all the safety and regulatory requirements, microdoses of psilocybin would seem to be a very promising tool for overcoming the Deaf Effect!

On 3 November 2025, Damon Isherwood found a 27 October 2025 article in Science Daily titled ‘Scientists discover a surprising way to quiet the anxious mind’, which reported that ‘Generalized anxiety disorder affects millions, often trapping sufferers in cycles of fear and isolation that conventional medications barely relieve. At UCSF, neuroscientist Jennifer Mitchell is testing a pharmaceutical form of LSD called MM120, which has shown striking results in reducing symptoms by promoting neuroplasticity and easing rigid thought patterns. In clinical trials, a single dose significantly outperformed standard treatments, offering hope to those who have found little relief elsewhere’ (see the full article at www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/10/251027023816.htm).

Jeremy said:

“Firstly, to explain how anxiety-loosening drugs may be helpful if their use was legal. The therapy techniques that I have developed with others in the WTM and have begun describing in Therapy For The Human Condition explain that since we can now admit that the human race was once innocent, cooperative and loving, we can see how incredibly expecting of unconditional love infants and children are and therefore how psychologically traumatising it is for infants and children to encounter our massively psychologically upset world. What happens as adults is that this extreme psychological trauma is easily brought back to the surface in the adult’s mind by encountering stressful events that trigger that connection to the original trauma, which is the crippling ‘anxiety disorder [that] affects millions’. What these mind-loosening drugs do is help the brain to ease its habituated hold on those fearful and negative ‘rigid thought patterns’ or highways that were set up in infancy and childhood, allowing the adult mind to experience ways of thinking that are outside of that traumatised child imprint that causes so much suffering. As mentioned in the psilocybin example, it ‘temporarily scrambles a critical network of brain areas involved in introspective thinking’, and ‘reduce[s] amygdala response to negative affective stimuli’. They disrupt, and by so doing relieve, the tsunami of terror on terror, fear on fear, negativity on negativity anxiety.

In terms of how these mind-loosening medications might help overcome the Deaf Effect, by ‘promoting neuroplasticity and easing rigid thought patterns’ they loosen up the resigned mind’s fear-driven, terrified commitment to denial of the issue of our corrupted condition and by so doing allow the resigned mind to open up, access, consider and digest the denial-free explanation of the human condition.

This use of medication to loosen alienation could be so helpful in solving THE problem in the world of the Deaf Effect that professionally run and approved clinical trials should be carried out as soon as possible to see how effective such medication would be. Provided it is proven to be 100% safe for users and approved by the relevant regulatory authorities, I strongly suspect the effectiveness of these medications in overcoming the Deaf Effect will be absolutely astonishing, and by inference hugely precious in helping the human race break its denial of its human condition and break through to a human-condition-free world; it might be the crucial help needed now that we have understanding of the human condition to finally bring about humanity’s liberation from the human condition!!

Who could set up and run such clinical trials is the next questionespecially given the human-condition-avoiding old world doesn’t even accept there is any denial of the human condition; it doesn’t recognise the ‘fifty feet of solid concrete’ that exists between the resigned adult mind and our soul, as psychiatrist R.D. Laing described our alienation?

A further difficulty will be finding people willing to participate in such clinical trials, because the very nature of the Deaf Effect makes it almost impossible for most sufferers to recognise that they are afflicted by it. You can’t admit to being in denial if you are in denial. This is why generating momentum for this explanation is vital. When people see others responding so positively, it helps them suspect that they may be ‘deaf’ to what is being presented. Likewise, hearing someone they admire and respect, which might be a friend or family member, or ultimately, a thought leader, say that Griffith’s work is profoundly important would serve as a powerful motivation to persevere.

Honestly, if we can solve the impasse of the Deaf Effect, what we are going to see out there is total strangers gleefully hugging each other as they walk past each other, the relief and excitement is going to be through the roof when word of this breakthrough gets out there!”

Tony Gowing: “Maybe, where it’s legal to do so and with proper supervision, workshops or courses like the Swiss bloke did could be trialled [again, see paragraph 153 of The Human Condition] where these understandings of the human condition are introduced, assisted by microdoses of alienation-loosening medication: give them Jeremy’s understandings ‘when they are open’, as the Swiss bloke said. Again the obstacle is having the expertise and permission to trial such medication.”

Jack Soden: “This was really interesting to read. We’ve crafted layer upon layer upon layer of defensive block-outs and evasions to keep ourselves well away from the suicidal depression and the associated “worse than death” fear that we are unlovablewhich lies at the base of our psyche as a result of our encounter with the human condition. It makes perfect sense, therefore, that we are so alienated from our true selves, and thus from the issue of the human condition itself, making us so deaf to this human-condition-confronting, but also human-condition-resolving and humanity-saving, information.

But this information simply has to reach a critical mass of people who can grasp itboth in their minds and their heartsif the world is to overcome the human condition and happiness and soundness of soul are to be restored to the human race. For that reason, I fully agree with and support any measures that help overcome this great impasse created by our fear-of-the-human-condition-induced Deaf Effect.

Personally, I feel we should approach influential thought leaders who advocate for the regulated, clinical use of alienation-busting substancesand try to find someone who can hear this information, or at least develop an appreciation for its importance. They could then advocate for the development of psychedelics as a clinical aid to help alleviate the alienation that prevents so many from being able to hear these insights.”

WTM Response: Yes, getting a thought leader like, say, Joe Rogan, through the Deaf Effect so they can appreciate our information is what we have been waiting for. It’s been our main plan, but again, they have been blocked by the Deaf Effect. The Deaf Effect is what is stalling our project. In fact, unfortunately, the great majority of the people who are able to hear and respond to our information at the moment are what we call ‘Ships At Sea’. These are individuals who, as it were, bravely refused to ‘pull into port’ and resign themselves to adopting denial when the ‘storms’ of agonising confrontation with the issue of the human condition occurred ‘out at sea’ during their adolescence. The process of Resignation to living in denial of the human condition that almost all adolescents have had to go through is explained in Freedom Essay 30. As is explained in that essay, ‘Ships At Sea’ are individuals who chose honest madness over alienated stability. Having not adopted denial of the issue of the human condition ‘Ships At Sea’ have no difficulty reading about or listening to explanation of the human condition. As explained in Freedom Essay 60, a big problem that Ships At Sea have is that they don’t realise how deaf almost everyone else is to this information and therefore how rare they are. This is the big ‘deaf to the Deaf Effect’ shock for Ships At Seajust how hard it is to get anybody else to ‘hear’ this information that they find so easy to hear.

Kevin Ryan referred the WTM to an article about the experiments that two Canadian psychiatrists undertook in the 1950s using LSD to assist patients to recover from alcoholism. The article reported that Bill Wilson, a co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, said he ‘was enthusiastic about the experience, feeling it helped eliminate the barriers that ego erects that stand in the way of experiencing the cosmos or God. He reported to his associates that he felt it could help many alcoholics have a spiritual breakthrough’ (https://eastbayaa.org/a-a-history-bill-w-and-lsd).

WTM response: Yes, since the ego is the insecure, must-win, can’t-accept-any-negatives, deny-the-truth-of-our-corrupted-condition situation, this article does indicate that using LSD might help lower defences and enable access to the truth about the human condition.

JT reported that she’s had “immense experience with all kinds of entheogenics, which is working with psychoactive substances like mushrooms or plants [‘entheogenic’ is actually Greek for ‘generating the divine from within’]. After having all kinds of standard therapies with a psychologist and even being put on anti-depressants I came in contact with the shamanistic path of healing, did sessions with Ayahuasca, mescaline, psylocibin, and LSD analogues. They all have been very helpful for me in getting more in contact with my soul. It helped me break down parts of my fear of my terrors from childhood, as Jeremy explains about the benefits of certain medications for anxiety. I occasionally work as a trip-sitter for people who want to use psylocibin because preparation and integration is key in having a good trip. Here in the Netherlands truffles containing psylocibin are legal, and lots of universities have a faculty for psychedelic studies (psychology).

And entheogenics and microdosing do help the mind to adapt to a new way of thinking. This understanding of the human condition coupled with sessions with entheogenics (my husband and I do them at home) and microdosing, we can say our understanding and appreciation of this life-saving understanding has grown so deep and is bigger than ever. We have entered a wonderful new episode of our lives and relationship. And it even helped my husband get out of the Mexican Standoff where you know the information is true but can’t let go your attachment to your now obsoleted angry, egocentric and alienated ways of defending yourself [see FAQ 1.23 for a powerful description of the problem of the Mexican Standoff, and Video/F. Essay 33 for how to overcome the Mexican Standoff]. In fact, I see a great potential for these substances with people stuck in the Mexican Standoff.

So in my experience I have seen that entheogenics can make a huge difference in accessing the understanding of the human condition. But I should say that without this understanding of the human condition that explains and defends our upset, I have seen these alienation-loosening substances make people even more defensive, deluded and angry as they try to resist the truth about themselves that the substances are helping to reveal. It follows that dosage and frequency of use have to be properly managed and supervisedas with any therapeutic medication really.

I want to add that there are lots of exercises, such as breathing and polyvagal work, that help to calm down the nervous system and allow you to be more open. When your own nervous system is regulated (as this explanation of the human condition does like no other) people can co-regulate with you. They can feel you’re calm and feel safe with you (that is a very important aspect of why therapy with horses is so good, we co-regulate on their calm).

Hope this helps fixing the world!”

WTM response: JT’s experience in the Netherlands has further confirmed that the use of medication can greatly help overcome the Deaf Effectwhich takes us back to the question of how to have medication used to get people through the Deaf Effect. Again, we need an expert, qualified researcher in psychedelics and/or psychiatry to establish and run an approved clinical trial of alienation-loosening medication to defeat the Deaf Effect, if anyone has any suggestions.

There are many online references from reputable sources about using psilocybin to overcome blocks in the mind (in our case to overcome the Deaf Effect) and other psychological conditions. These are some such references, and there are many more videos about psilocybin/psychedelicsif you click on any of these you’ll start to get suggestions. They give a feel for how popular and recognised the use of therapeutic psychedelics is becoming.

Ongoing enquiry: Our investigations into the potential clinical trial of and legal use of alienation-loosening medication to help overcome the Deaf Effect are continuing, which we will continue to report on here.
