THE Interview explains all humans are born with loving moral instincts but we all now variously suffer from a psychosis due to the human condition and, in the extreme, that psychologically conflicted upset state produces psychopathic behaviour. Importantly, this breakthrough explanation doesn’t condone or sanction the horrendous atrocities humans can commit (what historically has been termed ‘evil’) rather, through bringing compassionate understanding to the source of humans’ upset behaviour, it gives us the power to ameliorate and thus subside and ultimately eliminate it. In his book FREEDOM, Jeremy explains the twin political problems we have are the brutality of the right-wing’s need to continue the corrupting search for knowledge free from too much condemning idealism, and the left-wing’s dishonest and deluded dogmatic imposition of pseudo-idealistic politically correct values. However, as THE Interview explains, freedom of thought and individualism, sustained by the incentives of materialism and capitalism which right-wing constitutions uphold, are what maintained humanity’s heroic search for knowledge, ultimately for self-knowledge. And so paradoxically it was the right-wing that actually held the moral high ground and the left-wing that posed the real threat to humanity due to the fact that its dogmatically imposed pseudo-idealism gravely endangers freedom of thought and the search for understanding. Now the core mystery and problem about human behaviour of our so-called ‘good and evil’-stricken human condition has at last been solved we can understand the real merits and liabilities of both the left and right wings of politics and bring the whole necessary but ugly business of politics to an end (see our FAQs about politics).

Yes, understanding that the source of our aggression is a psychosis that has been compounding ever since the instinct and intellect clashed some 2 million years ago, is the key to being able to understand all our history. Now that we can admit that humans have a cooperative, loving instinctive heritage, not a brutish, savage and aggressive one, it follows that the further back in history we go, the less psychologically upset our ancestors were, and we can see evidence of this in existing ‘primitive’ races of people, such as in many indigenous cultures. However, it needs to be born in mind that ‘primitive’ peoples are only relatively innocent compared with other races; they are still members of the extremely upset stage of humanity, H. sapiens sapiens, so they are still psychologically upset angry egocentric and alienated.     We would just make two further points: Europeans are still relatively innocent compared to some of the older races (see Freedom Essay 28); and most importantly, we can now understand that more ‘upset’ members of humanity, are not ‘bad’ - becoming psychologically upset was the price paid for the heroic search for understanding; this understanding defends all humans at the most profound level.

There is a lot here to digest; in particular that our selfish, egocentric behaviour is a result of a psychologically upsetting clash between our intellect and preestablished instinctive self. It is this insight into the psychological origin of our divisive behaviour that is unique about Jeremy Griffith’s work; and most significantly, this understanding means that that psychologically upset state can be ameliorated, because a psychosis can be healed through understanding.

It is wonderful this is resonating with you Miriam. Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition brings biological understanding to religious accounts of our condition, which means we can at last reconcile science and religion. For instance, in Part 2 THE Interview explains, the story of Adam and Eve is a pre-scientific metaphor for the emergence of consciousness and its clash with our pre-established, cooperative loving instincts, resulting in humans becoming psychologically upset or ‘sinful’ or ‘evil’. However, significantly we can now understand, from scientific first principles, that ‘Adam and Eve’ were actually ‘good’ to search for knowledge, not bad or ‘evil’; we humans are actually the absolute heroes of the whole story! It establishes that we are good and not bad after all. This understanding allows us to make sense of everything and therefore truly known ourselves and others for the first time—it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough!

Thank you for your comment Isabel. What is so significant about Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is it establishes the equal worth or goodness of both men and women. Women have been horribly oppressed but the question screaming to be asked is WHY have men oppressed women? To finally have the answer to that is simply amazing and the rift between the sexes can begin to heal. You might like to read FAQ 8.1 about the embattled relationship between men and women, and the subsequent reconciliation that is now available.

For the benefit of onlookers, Jeremy Griffith explains that our inherited ‘animal instincts’ are loving and selfless, not selfish and egotistical (Part 3 of THE Interview explains how our ancestors developed our loving moral instincts through the nurturing based love-indoctrination process). We can now understand that our angry, egocentric state is the result of a psychosis from the clash between our emerging conscious, and those pre-established loving instincts.

After listing many of the ‘heresies’ that having the blinds drawn on our condition means we now have to adjust to, it is explained that the way we deal with this confrontation, “is that we don’t try to confront the truth about our corrupted condition more than our degree of soundness and security of self can cope with. Once we have investigated these understandings sufficiently to know that they have explained the human condition, we don’t actually need to know any more than that to take up a life where we direct all our thoughts and energies into supporting these understandings, and to the repair of the world that they finally make possible. We don’t need to know the full extent of the truth that this information reveals about the upset state of humanity; and we particularly don’t need to know how it explains and reveals everything about our own human-condition-afflicted life.”     Moreover, as is explained further in FAQ 1.39, “thankfully, and most importantly, no one has to overly confront their old, upset self — everyone can leave that behind as dealt with and simply live for the new world and all its potential.”

Jeremy Griffith acknowledges that myth and religion contain all manner of truths about human life, however it is all from a pre-scientific view. In particular, in THE Interview Jeremy makes the point that from ancient times many thinkers have identified the elements of instinct and intellect involved in creating the human condition, however the great breakthrough science can now provide is the clarifying explanation of the nature of the conflict between them. Understanding that the gene-based learning system can orientate a species, but that the nerve-based learning system is insightful, allows us to understand that the conscious mind was right to defy our instinctive self to search for understanding which produces our psychologically upset condition. Hi Tommo, while great care has been taken to present the explanation as quickly and simply as possible (which is done in Part 1) THE Interview also explains the very nature of the human condition means discussion of it can be initially difficult to access. This is because historically the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad has been the most terrifying of all subjects to face, and so we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it, which means our minds can initially struggle to hear and absorb discussion about it. Wonderfully however, this ‘deaf effect’ can be overcome with patient perseverance and everyone can access this most wonderful of all gifts of understanding the human condition! In terms of the majority of people being able to accept we have a human condition THE Interview explains it is the most fearful of subjects because it’s the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad, so until we could solve it with compassionate understanding, people have had to responsibly lived in denial of our inner critical selves. That is what is new and so important about Jeremy Griffith’s work. He presents the biological understanding of WHY we condemned or criticised ourselves! This explains that the original source of all the condemnation was our pre-established moral instincts criticising our intellect’s necessary search for knowledge, a criticism that caused us to become psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated.
