How do I rehabilitate my mind?

WTM Admin

The absolutely fabulous news THE Interview presents is our troubled mind is due to a psychosis (caused by the human condition) and now we can at last explain this condition our mind can be healed with that understanding! How this explanation rehabilitates and transforms us is summarised in FAQ 1.4 and further explained and illustrated in the Transformation section of our website.

Janet

Jeremy has an extremely interesting brain and l would love to have a conversation with him. However, religion has directed people into the selfish lifestyle they live today as they living in fear. Atheists live a happier full lifestyle without the hang ups of today’s lifestyle without fear.

WTM Admin

What is so significant about this breakthrough is it is completely reconciling of all the dualities that the human condition has caused including believers and non-believers. Having been unable, until now, to explain the human condition—which is the dilemma of our species’ capacity for what has been called ‘good and evil’—the human race has been left with a deep, subconscious sense of insecurity and even guilt about our fundamental worth, leaving us no choice but to live in near total denial of the issue and take up a strategy to prove our self-worth. (It is this deep insecurity that is the source of our selfishness, and which religion at least brought up some honesty about - you can read about the role of religion in FAQ 1.15). Until we could scientifically explain why we are good after all some people relied on dogmatic and religious assurances about their fundamental goodness and for others complete denial of God became the only acceptable option. (In addition to FAQ 1.15, you can read about ‘What is God’ in FAQ 6.2 and atheism and secularism in FREEDOM ch 8:16:I.)

This makes absolute commonsense of our spiritual awakening. All of us can now bath in the light of a new era of freedom on earth as it is in heaven. God Bless you With compassion David

Stephen I’Anson

Need to put the bottom line at the top. Too long to come to the point so gave up. If this is so groundbreaking I guess someone will eventually figure out how to communicate the point succinctly.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your comment Stephen. The very nature of the human condition means explanation of it can be initially difficult to access because it has been a terrifying subject that until we could solve we had to live in denial of, see FAQ 1.16 ‘Why can’t I understand what this is all about?’

How did we develop consciousness?

WTM Admin

One of the great outstanding mysteries of science is ‘what is consciousness, and how did it emerge?’ Jeremy Griffith answers this question in Freedom Essay 24 and chapter 7 of his definitive book FREEDOM—a summary of which is provided in FAQ 5.4 titled ‘What is consciousness? / Why is it that humans became conscious while other animals haven’t? / How did consciousness emerge in humans?’

Eddie Laya N

Our upbringing by our parents affect our behavior whether they are good or bad . As we grow up our behavior become firm with environmental influenced, peer relationships and education.I think these influential factors affect our human instincts greatly as we mature. We humans have the ability to learn and unlearn our behavior as we have intelligence to do so. I wish to have your free book, thank you!

WTM Admin

Yes, as THE Interview explains, nurturing or love in our development is critical to who we become in our lives. In chapter 8:16C of FREEDOM Jeremy Griffith explains (par 983) that “the whole so-called ‘nature vs. nurture’ debate has really been about wanting to, indeed needing to, attribute the formation of our character to the influence of ‘nature’, our genetic make-up, rather than to the confronting truth of the role nurturing (or the lack thereof) played; it has been a sophisticated deflection from the fact that our psychoses and neuroses and their many physical manifestations are not about our genes, but the hurt to our all-loving instinctive self or soul during infancy and childhood.” So it is true that our experiences in childhood create our subsequent behaviour, but what is so incredibly important about the explanation of the human condition that Jeremy is presenting is that it is the original source of our species’ corrupted condition and inability to nurture. And so by defending our corrupted state at this source level, it doesn’t matter what our individual encounter with the human condtion was, we are all defended now at this fundamental level, and so we can all end our defensive, insecure behaviour, and nurturing will again become humanity’s central focus. FREEDOM is freely available on our homepage to read online or download (no email required).

Once people have watched THE Interview we recommend they explore our homepage HumanCondition.com which presents all our freely available key introductory videos and publications. It also shows all our Global WTM Centres and our fabulous WTM Community! — all summarised in FAQ 1.11 ‘What is the best way to learn about the human condition’.

fred brockway

The gift of “Conscious Intelligence” bestowed upon the Human Species gives us access to the unlimited potential of our biology. Our reluctance to acknowledge this potential and manifest its magnificence compromises our vision/perception and understanding. Consciousness (C.I.) empowers us to experience “Oneness” (the union of SELF & OTHER) . The Human Condition is the by-product of our failure to joyfully celebrate BIOLOGICAL ONENESS. The sharing of this insight of the HUMAN CONDITION provides the impetus that our species desperately needs to manifest solidarity.

WTM Admin

As author Richard Heinberg says (quoted in THE Interview): ‘Every religion begins with the recognition that human consciousness has been separated from the divine Source, that a former sense of oneness… has been lost… everywhere in religion and myth there is an acknowledgment that we have departed from an original… innocence and can return to it only through the resolution of some profound inner discord’. It is this resolution of the source of the separation and discord that Jeremy Griffith’s instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition provides and why it is praised as such a great breakthrough by thought leaders and the general public around the world which you can see here on our homepage.

Roy Dopson

Sit in a quiet room without doing anything or thinking. Simply sit there without thinking or doing anything You will find that you will be unable to remain thought free for more than a few seconds. This uncontrollable mind is the source of all suffering. Someone who cannot control their own mind is INSANE. Being able to steer your car while not having any brakes is NOT controlling it. Now imagine 7.8 billion others who ALSO CANNOT CONTROL THEIR OWN MIND. THIS is the cause of all suffering. If you cannot control your own mind, what good is anything this course offers? You are clueless. 🙏

WTM Admin

We agree the source of our suffering is our troubled human-condition-stricken mind but improved forms of control or management have all failed to produce lasting reform. Clearly only a change at the fundamental level of human behaviour can redeem the situation. To get to the bottom of our human condition, and bring about the lasting transformation we seek, we need to answer the essential question of why, when the universal ideals are to be loving and selfless, are we so competitive and selfish? It is our inability to answer this question that causes our minds to constantly seek distraction. And it is this question of questions that biologist Jeremy Griffith has solved with his instinct vs intellect explanation presented in THE Interview.

Robert McDermott

Dr Griffiths mentioned the Genesis story and what is generally known as the Fall. I did not hear a mention of the gospel or the glorious redemption available only through the cross and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Doctor’s premise that we are all inherently good flies in the face of Biblical truth. On account of the Fall we died, spiritually and ultimately physically. We became alienated from our Creator and from each other. That is how you explain the human condition, and the only answer in the redemption freely provided through the Divine and eternal Son of God.

WTM Admin

Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. For instance, the fundamental problem the human race has always had is to explain or justify our competitive, selfish and aggressive behaviour – all the evidence seemed to suggest that we were evil. But now we can understand, from scientific first principles, that ‘Adam and Eve’ were ‘good’ to search for knowledge (‘become alienated from our Creator’), not bad; we humans are actually the absolute heroes of the whole story! What THE Interview presents fundamentally lifts the ‘burden of guilt’ from the human race. It establishes that we humans are good and not bad after all. With this understanding we can finally end our psychologically troubled human condition—it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough. See our FAQs about religion.

Wonderful, clearly explained and very needed work - thank you for making this so freely available! Some quick notes: 1) Lefties like me, please don’t get triggered but watch the interview till the end (trust me on this one 😊) 2) There are many reasons why motherhood/parenthood is in crisis. If you want to learn more, start with Adrienne Rich, Jacqueline Rose and Judith Warner’s work on this. 3) Re. fleshing out Darwin: Fiske, definitely, and also Alfred Russel Wallace and Bruce Lipton. 4) I’m Afrikaans-speaking (like Van der Post) and his name’s pronounced “low-rinse fun der posst” (pet peeve from a big fan, sorry 😉) 5) Charles Eisenstein and Thich Nhat Hanh’s work on healing the “story of separation” towards the truth of interbeing resonates well with much of this thinking - you can legally read “The more beautiful world our hearts know is possible” by former for free too (highly recommended) 6) None of this precludes the existence of a Higher Power, but whether you believe in this or not, may you be blessed in finding your own goodness 💗

WTM Admin

Thank you for your thoughts Johanet. To solve all the crises we face and be able to truly heal we have to solve the human condition—end the underlying, core insecurity in humans. This required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great breakthrough Jeremy Griffith has found. The significance of now being able to understand the human condition takes a little time to absorb, but the more you absorb it, the more you realise just how much it allows us to understand all the various angles that people have been working on, in fact, the more you realise just how all-clarifying, all-redeeming, all-reconciling, all-healing and all-liberating it is! Summarised in FAQ 1.6 ‘Why understanding the human condition solves everything’.

Versary Ngaheke

Tena koe, ENLIGHTEN the minds and souls of all people who are trapped in the illusion of who they are, what they are and how to be in themselves, how they relate to the world and every thing in it. Being free to being me has made me lighter not only within but also without knowing I am oneness with the universe has given me empathy, humility, forgiveness and patience for others to enlighten themselves my role to helping others to help themselves is information sharing of truths for nothing in return except to witness another’s journey to enlightenment of past trauma, lies, blame and shame. Thank you for your truths. I not only got it, live and love learning it, but will share with all people. Love your truth.

WTM Admin

Yes Versary, at last we can finally understand the heroic reason we became psychologically upset and had to live in an illusory world of denial, estranged from our all-sensitive soul. The illusion is now broken and we are no longer trapped—as Jeremy Griffith says in THE Interview ‘now that our corrupted condition is finally truthfully explained, honesty replaces denial and the world heals...Light comes streaming into the dark cave-like world of denial that we have been living in, and it will all be like waking up from a nightmare!’ FAQ 6.5 further explains how our enlightenment depended on confronting and biologically explaining why we became so upset and stresses this huge difference between Jeremy’s work and the new age movement. Also, FAQ 1.26 ‘What is soul’ is absolutely fascinating.

There are no words to explain how happy I am about this. I have been searching for the answers about the human condition (specifically my own condition) and found solace in the teaching’s of the Buddha, the Dalai Lama(s) and Eckhart Tolle (specifically his book The Power of Now). Very good explanation of today’s world

Jacques Fréchet

Mr. Griffith’s true breaking idea is the bizarrely called love-indoctrination process that would be the foundation of our moral values and even the apparition of consciousness. Nurturing becomes therefore an essential part of human development. This thesis, if proven true, could influence greatly the way we see ourselves and treat our children. Concentrating on the scientific merit of the love-indoctrination process could be the best contribution Mr. Griffith could bring to the progress of humanity, as many others parts of his thesis are controversial, biblical or simply inaccurate.

WTM Admin

Yes, until now how we acquired our moral sense has been one of the great unanswered scientific questions. Primatologist Richard Wrangham described it as ‘A question that has lain unsolved at the core of biology ever since Darwin’, and Darwin himself described it as the ‘one special difficulty’ with his concept of natural selection. The science of the love-indoctrination process (so called because to an infant observer the mother’s maternalism appears to be selfless, and so when infancy can be prolonged – as it was in our ape ancestors – that infant becomes ‘indoctrinated’ or trained in behaving selflessly) is fully presented in Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM chapter 5 (and summarised in Freedom Essay 21).     As THE Interview discusses, Jeremy’s work presents a new paradigm that dares to confront the historically unbearably confronting and off-limits subject of the human condition so there is a lot to absorb and consider. (Indeed, without the human condition now being defended, even the nurturing love-indoctrination process would be too confronting for most people to consider, which is why John Fiske’s formulation of the love-indoctrination process was allowed to die after he proposed it back in 1874, see FREEDOM chapters 6.3 and 6.4.) You might find FAQs 6 about how this biological treatise demystifies religion and reconciles it with science, and also FAQ 1.20 ‘What is the scientific evidence for this instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition’, helpful.

So amazing to see such breakthrough work!

Odile Nelligan

Boring and a bad talker! Could not even listen to the full interview

Khekhethi Makhudu

A fascinating interview which I was initially skeptical about but ended up listening to the whole tape. Indeed, the idea of understanding the human condition that for so long appeared antithetical to love and cooperative living is itself not strange or new, as Griffiths points out. The solution is as he asserts, namely, to see the truth ‘that could liberate humans’ from the psychosis of fear, hatred, aggression and selfishness. The brilliance and breath of the interview presented is laudable. My only gripe is the offhand dismissing of socialist, left and new age thinking as fake and deeply insincere. the latter thinking movement were instrumental, in my estimation, of the very bedrock of assumptions Griffith makes and uses to bolster his notions of a freedom we humans always seem to be searching for. Thank you though, for the enlightening discussion and for making the material and book freely available. they are a boon for humankind!! Bravo and Re a Leboga! Siyabonga!

WTM Admin

Initial scepticism is understandable Khekhethi especially, as you say, our search for understanding has been such a long one. Jeremy Griffith’s work opens up a new way of thinking so it takes a little time to fully absorb it’s ‘breadth’ and our human condition does present the ultimate paradox. For instance, when we understand that the search for knowledge, namely the search for understanding of our imperfect human condition, has been all-important, we can see that it is the left, not the right, that poses the real threat to humanity because its dogmatically imposed pseudo idealism gravely endangers freedom of thought and that search for understanding. Jeremy is not unfairly focusing on the failings of the left wing (indeed, in his book FREEDOM he acknowledges the importance of compassion in holding a society together) but rather explains from first principles the serious threat posed by pseudo idealism to humanity’s ultimate goal of finding understanding. This is further explained and referenced in our FAQs about politics and the new age movement which we hope you will explore.

Invaluable insight, Thank you for sharing. The work could not have come sooner as the world, in its dystopian angst, enters its darkest hours.

Marie Andre Horsthemke

I am so confirmed in my own view of our basic goodness taught or experienced by mystics in various religions. Jeremy Griffith explains it now in the context of science and evolution. He gives us hope that our psychological troubled condition can be healed if we transform our understanding of creation. I have bought his book. I will listen to the videos several times, read the book, so that it sinks in.

John Brooker

The human condition was described accurately by Jesus Christ, and He provided the ONLY answer for it. His death and resurrection, and our believing Him and accepting the salvation He provided. He, as He stated clearly is the one and only door to heaven and a reuniting with the family of God.

Corvette

I’ve never understood why some people are so angry and as you said it would take people like you and the other Professor to be able to come up with this concept. I’ve never heard that we think we were bad and that’s why we act the way we do. I’ve always been a loving person and maybe the reason is I was never taught that evil and that’s why I’m considered an empath so really what you’re saying is we should all be an empath but because of teaching some of us are not. I believe you are right and we should be teaching this truth in school and from day one. Thank you sir for helping me to understand what has been troubling me for so long.

Tamara Kola

I am listening.

Derrick Baragwanath

Jeremy Griffith’s argument that nurture is the secret to man’s goodness is a perspective only. The ‘Nature or Nurture’ argument has been around for a long time. Good nurturing in the animal kingdom does not stop the formation of social hierarchies and the struggle to become the Alpha male that rules the harem. It could be equally argued that our ‘Original Sin’ or selfishness stems from our animal roots, and it is only man’s capacity for self awareness that allows us to become intellectually aware of our surroundings and via that empathy, for the suffering of others. I suspect the real battle within man is the choice between the embracing our capacity to empathize, or, to follow our selfish animal roots. Sadly, for most the former is too much like hard work, involving real physical sacrifice. Running with our base animal instincts is a much easier path and is, therefore adopted by most.

WTM Admin

You’re correct Derrick, in saying that genetic selfishness rules most of the animal kingdom, however as Jeremy explains in Part 3 of THE Interview, and evidences through reference to the bonobos and the fossil record, through the nurturing based love-indoctrination process, it is possible over millions of years for the normal genetic selfishness in a species to be replaced by genuinely selfless instincts, which is the source of our empathy. (How humans breached this genetic impasse and developed our moral instincts is absolutely fascinating science which is summarised in our FAQ 5.2 ‘How did we acquire our all-loving, unconditionally selfless moral instincts?’).     And if humans do have genuinely selfless instincts not selfish instincts then we need to look afresh at human selfishness and how it emerged. What is being suggested is that when our intellect began to develop and challenge our already well-established instincts for control of our minds, a terrible battle broke out between these two systems. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was an undeserved sense of guilt and insecurity that caused us to become psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric, the upset state we refer to as the human condition.     As Jeremy explains in THE Interview descriptions of our less-than-ideal condition, such as egocentric, arrogant, deluded, artificial, hateful, cynical, mean, immoral, alienated, etc, all imply a consciousness-derived, psychological dimension to our behaviour. We suffer from a consciousness-induced, psychological HUMAN CONDITION, not an instinct-controlled ANIMAL CONDITION. (Read more in chapter 2:11 of FREEDOM.)     There is a lot to absorb here but I suggest the more you do absorb it, the more it will dawn on you just how accountable the instinct vs intellect explanation is for the ‘battle within man’, and even why we have had to run with the excuse that we have ‘base animal instincts’ (you can read more about the ‘savage instincts’ excuse in FAQ 1.2).

Jos Hille

A very valuable contribution to Humankind. The power of our subconscience is overwhelming in our daily life. This goes a long way in understanding what drives us and that judgement ("the Forbidden Fruit”) of ourselves and others is poisoning our lives.

In the future, decades from now, I hope we may teach in our children’s world history class the date of the creation of this theory as as pivotal of that of the origin of species, or moreso, for in the future it would be breakthroughs of the mental and spiritual world that are weighted more than those in the physical. And I’d like to set a deadline on when we solve the most destructive form of the human condition and the dissolution of traditional politics. 2027?

He tries to extrapolate things from bonobos. Bonobos have been shown to show tendencies to choose to associate with “hinderer” or dominant jerk apes more than “helper” or supportive apes. Showing that they dont have a moral compass at all but just cooperate when it comes to raising the young or gathering the food. But otherwise not anymore moralistic than your average rabid chimp

WTM Admin

Jeremy Griffith explains the key biological distinction between humans and other animal species is that humans suffer from the conscious-mind-based, psychologically troubled human condition, not the genetic-opportunism-based, animal condition. While there are remnants of selfish reciprocity, sexual opportunism and aggression in bonobo behaviour they are extraordinarily loving, and far less aggressive than common chimpanzees. Without the defence of our own aggressive behaviour we have not been able to admit how cooperative bonobos actually are. See FAQ 5.2 ‘What do bonobos tell us about our own evolutionary heritage?’

You might want to add the scientific understanding of: THE ORIGIN OF CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE BREAKDOWN OF THE BICAMERAL MIND by Julian Jaynes. It is a fantastic text which explains why we were schizophrenic during a part of our human history.

WTM Admin

Julian Jaynes’s theory which states that humans are a mentally unbalanced species due to an inadequate coordination between our emotional old brain and our cognitive new brain is addressed in Video/Freedom Essay 4. It discusses that while many have identified the elements of instinct and intellect involved in creating the human condition, the biological breakthrough Jeremy Griffith’s treatise provides is the clarifying explanation of the nature of the conflict between them and explains without that explanation the conflict could not be resolved. This key biological distinction reveals our aggressive and ‘schizophrenic’ behaviour comes from the conscious-mind-based, psychologically troubled human condition, not the genetic-opportunism-based, animal condition or our reptilian brain.

Margaret Smith

Jesus Christ never ever taught that we were bad. Julian of Norwich, Christian mystic said that “sin was behovely”. It was a necessary part of our growth. Your research confirms this scientifically. The Good News is that we are indeed made in the loving image of God. If you look into the history of the western church, it’s emphasis through the medieval era was on the sinfulness of man instead of the loving ness of man and that has not been helpful in understanding our human condition. All of the Christian mystics teach what Jesus taught , that to grow into wholeness we have to face our shadow side ( not bad in itself but destructive if left unaddressed). I think you are saying much the same. In addressing our psychosis and understanding that God holds us in completely unconditional love, just like the tribe you describe so beautifully, we are healed. What l am trying to say is that your scientific approach and my spiritual approach are in fact one, and that surely this is healing and wholeness for the human race. We need both biological and spiritual to bring about the soul healing you speak of. We never were abandoned as “bad” by God, it was just bad teaching that has been the problem. More authentic and healing spiritual teaching is now more and more available for example Father Richard Rohr’s superb teaching. If you take the trouble to research this you will be well rewarded. As your interviewer said “Thank God for that!” God bless you all, Margaret

The study of the human condition is the realm of inquiry where science and religion overlap, so yes, now we can biologically explain the human condition, religion is demystified and not only are the universal ideals, that religion has upheld for humanity, confirmed, but we also now have the fully rational, compassionate and redeeming explanation for ‘sin’. Great wisdom can be found in some spiritual teaching, but ultimately our thinking mind needed understanding—specifically, scientific understanding of why when the ideals are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? This is what Jeremy Griffith’s treatise does and why it is heralded as the breakthrough that can save the world. You can read about the reconciliation of science and religion that is now possible in FAQ 1.15 and FAQ 6.2.

Truth is amazing!

Easy as it is to believe the concepts presented there is one quite obvious flaw. In order for this information to disseminate throughout mankind massive buy-in will be mandatory. We all know there are millions of people who have no desire to change their ways and even believe there is nothing wrong. That said with still hundreds of millions of people worldwide who will not support the notions in the material it will make worldwide change of the human condition almost impossible, at least in the short term. If this is indeed the cure the disease still has generations to live.

As Part 4 of THE Interview explains, yes it will take generations for the upset within us to be completely healed but importantly we can be immediately free of its affects. Our FAQ 1.6 summarises how understanding the human condition is the universal solution to human suffering, and the Transformation section of our website illustrates the extraordinary transformation of the human race it makes possible in just three short video presentations. Basically, so exciting and relieving is this breakthrough, and the freedom from the human condition that is now on offer, that everyone will want it, and so it will catch on like wildfire and this is already happening! On our homepage you can see the rapidly growing appreciation and support for the WTM with outstanding commendations from thought leaders and WTM Centres all over the world!

What rubbish, coming from a man about mothers love. You dont not know what you are talking about. Its social conditioning that is the problem. How can a man understand a mothers love. . Impossible

Two months ago I wrote a song lyric that starts like this: “When Eve chose love above security, and Adam followed her out of the Garden, Creation’s purpose was fulfilled, but met with enmity, and man’s own resurrection had just started.” I hadn’t heard of “The Human Condition” when I wrote it, and I must say I am blown away by this... Very clear words have been formed to describe what I have been thinking... Thank you!
