    Hi Akan. As THE Interview makes clear, there is no dogma, faith or belief involved. This understanding, and the World Transformation Movement which supports it, is the antithesis of a religious system. What is presented is an accountable scientific, first principle-based, rational, testable understanding of the human condition, which has attracted the support of eminent scientists and thinkers around the world, see the Commendations on our homepage.     However, because the human condition is the study of humans’ capacity for acts of both so-called ‘good and evil’ it is the realm of inquiry where science and religion overlap, so in explaining the human condition religion is demystified and explained by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. For instance Jeremy Griffith explains in this interview Adam and Eve is a pre-scientific metaphor for the emergence of consciousness and its clash with our pre-established, cooperative loving instincts, resulting in humans becoming psychologically upset or ‘sinful’ or ‘evil’. Yes, the instinct vs intellect clash causes the fundamental ‘cognitive dissonance’! Our intellect has been at war with our instinctive self, and unable to explain and defend it, we have had to live in denial of the whole thing. So there has been this huge dissonance within us, impacting everything we do and think. However, with the understanding of that clash, humanity can now be free of that dissonance. Understanding is the key! It truly is the most significant moment in human history.

Thank you for you thoughtful response to THE Interview Karl and it does take time to see this understanding presents the universal solution to all the problems we face no matter our religion, politics or belief system. What is unique about Jeremy’s work is it gets to the original source of all the “division”, “bias” and need for “egocentric beliefs” and fundamentally lifts the ‘burden of guilt’ from the human race and allows us to forgive ourselves and others and finally end our psychologically troubled human condition. As the distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen (who wrote the Introduction to Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM) said: “What Griffith is presenting is understanding of the source insecurity that the whole human race suffers from for having destroyed our species’ innocent soul. It is a universal self-blame that his understanding at last provides healing insight into. All human behavior is saturated with that universal insecure, depressing state and resulting anger, egocentricity and alienation that has developed from it, but we finally have the compassionate foundation insight needed to dismantle all that ‘upset’/psychosis. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin”.

    Hi AL, there are a lot of comments to scroll through on this thread but if you do you will see a lot of different viewpoints and also critical and negative feedback so we encourage you to do that.     To your second point, while great care has been taken to present the explanation as quickly and simply as possible (which is done in Part 1) THE Interview also explains the very nature of the human condition means discussion of it can be initially difficult to access. This is because historically the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad has been the most terrifying of all subjects to face, and so we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it, which means our minds can initially struggle to hear and absorb discussion about it. Wonderfully however, this ‘deaf effect’ can be overcome with patient perseverance and everyone can access this most wonderful of all gifts of understanding the human condition! See our FAQ 1.16 which includes the question ‘please send me an executive summary so I have some idea of what you’re trying to say?’.     Also, FAQ 1.3 presents a very brief summary of the key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established cooperative instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric – the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition.

Thanks for your comment Isha and it is wonderful the integrity of Jeremy Griffith’s work is evident to you. His biological explanations introduce a new scientific paradigm based on confronting rather than the historic practice of avoiding the issue of the human condition (which leads to so many new concepts such as that the human race lived in an original state of innocence, that nurturing created our moral soul, and that there is an integrative meaning to existence) so it does require some application and digestion time to fully absorb and assess it so we send you all our encouragement. In terms how this correlates with the mystics, wisdom can be found in some spiritual teaching, but ultimately our thinking mind needed understanding—specifically, scientific understanding of why when the ideals are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? This is what Jeremy Griffith’s treatise does and why it is heralded as the breakthrough that can save the world. Thank you for your comment Frank and yes humanity is seeking deliverance (or liberation or freedom) but, as THE Interview explains, to legitimately return to our all-loving soulful state and build a “true society” we desperately need to explain why we behave in the completely opposite way? This is the point or question of the human condition and to answer it we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when our instincts are to be cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. This required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work and that is the great biological breakthrough biologist Jeremy Griffith presents here. It couldn’t be more significant because at last we can explain away the guilt and shame we’ve carried for corrupting and becoming alienated from our soul—for living at odds with our selfless moral conscience. The fundamental explanation is actually very simple and not beyond the most basic of educations, however the very nature of the human condition means explanation of it can be initially difficult to access as it has been the most terrifying of subjects to face because it is the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad as a species, and we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it. That being said, the ramifications of the explanation reach into our understanding of every discipline; and those disciplines also, in turn, evidence the truth of the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation.

We are respectful of everyone’s beliefs, but do suggest that while religions contained extraordinary truth about human life, it was all from a pre-scientific view, and that ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that clarifying difference means we can now understand that we had to defy our instincts, which is why this great breakthrough is described as ‘redeeming’. It follows that by finding the good reason we had to defy our instincts, we can reconcile ourselves with them, because all our defensive behaviours (our anger, egocentricity and alienation) are now redundant. We no longer need them because we have the real defense for why we had to defy our instincts. We recommend reading FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion?’ where it is explained that, “The great founding prophets of religion actually looked forward to the arrival of the reconciling understanding of the human condition—which means supporters of religion shouldn’t see Jeremy’s scientific demystification of religious teachings as blasphemy, but as religious fulfillment!”

Certainly human’s recent history has been selfish and aggressive, however in evolutionary terms that is only very recent. As you go back more than a few thousand years all the evidence is of cooperation. With the human condition now safely defended, we can admit our cooperative past, and in fact, the whole of FREEDOM evidences that we emerged from an innocent past, not a savage, ‘red in tooth and claw’ past as is commonly held. For example, see analysis of gentleness of so-called primitive peoples, such as the San Bushmen and the Australian Aborigines, as well as evidence from mythology of a ‘golden age’ of innocence (for example, in chapter 2:7); see also evidence provided by the astonishing sensitivity to paleolithic rock painting (see chapter 8:11C); indeed, all of chapter 8), is a revealing application of the ontogeny recapitulate phylogeny principle.

Do not despair Ian. We know that the issues you raise are very serious, but what you will start to realise is that what is presented here actually does get to the bottom of the human condition and from there is able to completely change humanity’s whole situation. Where one minute everything looked hopeless, suddenly it is not only infused with hope, but incredibly exciting. That is the turn around that having the human condition brings. In short, ‘Yes’. All humans suffer from the human condition. Everyone suffers from a fundamental insecurity over our self worth, but as Jeremy explains, while we humans couldn’t defend our upset corrupted state, we couldn’t afford to admit we were upset. Thankfully now our upset state is explained and defended, we can safely re-connect with the human condition in ourselves and the world and bring genuine love and forgiveness to our dark side because we can understand that becoming corrupt was an immensely heroic state, not a shameful one.

You have come to the right place Stephen! The human race is certainly a great, seemingly impenetrable tangle of denial and psychological upset. But you will find that the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation does the seeming impossible, and gets to the bottom of it all. Which is why Professor Harry Prosen, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, said, “I have no doubt this biological explanation of the human condition is the holy grail of insight we have sought for the psychological rehabilitation of the human race.”

Until we had understanding the best that we could do was to find some balance between the polarities of life: ‘good’ vs ‘evil’; religion vs science; left vs right wing; instinct vs intellect; emotion vs brain etc etc, but the beauty of this understanding is that it at last brings a profound and permanent reconciliation between all the polarities by presenting the very good reason for all our selfish, divisive, destructive behaviour. This isn’t like Scientology at all. Hubbard’s ‘scientology’ is not actually grounded in science; it is a metaphysics-based religious system. In contrast, what is being presented by Jeremy Griffith is first-principle, accountable biology which answers in first-principle biological terms the obvious question that has caused humans so much buried guilt and insecurity — how can we be so selfish, angry and destructive when the ideals are to be loving and selfless? And yes, the answer is that our psychologically upset state was a result of becoming conscious. As Jeremy stresses in Part 1 of THE Interview, when the conscious mind emerged, our pre-established instincts criticised its experiments in self-management, causing us to become psychologically upset. Understanding that the gene-based learning system can orientate a species, but that the nerve-based learning system is insightful, allows us to understand why this clash occured, and importantly that the conscious mind was right to defy our instinctive self and search for understanding, which is why this great breakthrough is described as ‘redeeming’. It follows that by finding the good reason we had to defy our instincts, we can reconcile ourselves with them, because all our defensive behaviours (our anger, egocentricity and alienation) are now redundant. Also Jeremy’s work recognises the great truths religions upheld and their great contribution to the human journey but also Jeremy’s work demystifies religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts, see FAQ 6.2 ‘What is God’ and FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’. It represents the end of faith and dogma and the beginning of knowing.

Hi Chris, we appreciate your comment as this does represent a huge paradigm shift, and so it can take some time to absorb, but we suggest that the more you digest the instinct vs intellect explanation, the more accountable you will realise the suggestion is that it is actually the source of all our ills, despite the myriad of ways those problems now present themselves. Certainly is a paradigm thing Bill in fact there has been no greater paradigm shift in the human journey than this one! Jeremy Griffith’s breakthrough understanding of the human condition opens up an entirely new way of thinking about humans, which is immensely exciting, but it does present a huge change in how we view ourselves and the world because what is being introduced is a new scientific paradigm based on confronting rather than the historic practice of avoiding the issue of the human condition. Indeed the more you absorb the depth of these insights the more you will see just how profound and all-solving they are for the whole of humanity!

    Our guilt and shame for having corrupted our original innocent self is so great that we have had to live in denial of the human condition, hide in Plato’s dark cave where no exposing light could reach us (see Freedom Essay 11 about Plato’s famous Cave allegory). However, as your mind begins to assimilate this redeeming understanding of our upset state, that guilt does become apparent.     We can also understand the real reason for patriachy. As is explained in Freedom Essay 27 we can now also understand the switch from matriachy to patriachy was a result of the horrifically upsetting battle against our instincts, which began following the emergence of consciousness some 2 million years ago. The nurturing matriarchal or female-centric priority that created our altruistic moral instincts and a cooperative humanity, was superseded in importance by a patriarchal world. Men necessarily and unavoidably had to defeat the ignorance of our instinctive self or soul, for if that battle wasn’t won humanity would self-destroy from perpetual ignorance and resulting terminal upset anger, egocentricity and alienation. As is further explained in Addendum 2 of Death by Dogma, men, in particular white males, despite more and more opprobrium being heaped upon them, have actually now found the explanation of the human condition.

    We will address your points in the order you raised them.     In Part 3 of THE Interview Jeremy Griffith explains how we became fully conscious as a result of nurturing or the love-indoctrination process. He refers the viewer to chapter 7 of his definitive book FREEDOM which provides a comprehensive explanation — a summary of which is provided in FAQ 5.4 titled ‘What is consciousness? / Why is it that humans became conscious while other animals haven’t? / How did consciousness emerge in humans?’. In that FAQ it is explained that consciousness means being sufficiently aware of how experiences are related to attempt to manage change from a basis of understanding. He then explains that what blocks other animals from becoming conscious is that the gene-based natural selection process is, in effect, totally opposed to any altruistic, selfless thinking, and since altruism is the very theme and meaning of existence, such opposition blocks the development of honest, sound, effective thinking. Finally, he explains that the reason we were able to become fully conscious is that, quite by accident, the nurturing of selfless instincts breached the block against thinking truthfully by superimposing a new, truthful, selflessness-recognising mind over the older, effectively dishonest, selfless-thinking-blocked one.     Regarding the “bird migration”: the Adam Stork story is presented as an analogy. However, it is not true that an instinct controlled animal would not be ‘concerned’ about non-instinctive behaviour in other members of its species. Certainly it wouldn’t be a conscious reaction, however instincts strongly react to behaviour that is out of synch with their naturally selected orientations.     Finally, with regard to your contention that narcissism and psychopathy are genetic traits, we would point out that while the Concise Oxford Dictionary defines ‘ego’ as ‘the conscious thinking self’, what is being explained here is ‘egocentricity’ which is where the ego becomes ‘centred’ or focused on the need to justify itself. With the redeeming explanation of the human condition now found, it is safe to admit that egocentricity is a psychological issue, the result of insecurity, not a genetic trait. Unable to truthfully explain why we were so destructive and selfish, we had to resort to contrived excuses, of which ‘blaming everything on genetic predispositions’ has been a main one.
