Thankfully now with the benefit of science our goodness as a species is biologically established so we can know we are not evil sinners. As Jeremy explains in THE Interview “The Biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden that Moses wrote so long ago in about 1,500 BC actually perfectly describes the psychologically upsetting battle that emerged between our instincts and conscious intellect... [however] not knowing how naturally selected instincts differ from cause and effect-operating consciousness, this story of Adam and Eve becoming conscious could only conclude that the angry, egocentric and alienated condition that emerged when we became conscious was a bad, evil, sinful state, but this scientific presentation says, ‘No, no, that pre-scientific story got it wrong’. Adam and Eve are actually not just good but the heroes of the whole story of life on Earth.. all the time we were good and not bad but we couldn’t explain why, but now at last through the benefit of science, we can.”     In terms of religious dogma we encourage you to read our FAQ 5.3 about religion as it explains the whole objective of our conscious mind has been to replace ignorance, mystery, superstition and dogma with knowledge and understanding. But, in order to search for knowledge and comply with our almost universal need to deny the human condition, we needed both science and religion. This is because science took up the responsibility of inquiring into the mechanisms and workings of our world in a denial-complying, mechanistic (not-holistic) way, while religion became the custodian of the integrative, ‘Godly’, cooperative ideals of life while the search for the liberating understanding of humans’ ‘fallen’ condition was underway. With understanding of the human condition we can now appreciate that in order to encourage people to adhere to the integrative, ‘Godly’, cooperative ideals of life, religions sought to restrain ‘upset’ behaviour by making people fearful of behaving in an overly angry, egocentric and alienated way. The problem was such condemnation of upset behaviour could be extremely terrorising and oppressive. Obviously what was desperately missing was the reconciling understanding of our upset behaviour and the Godly ideals; reconciling understanding of the human condition in fact—which is exactly what Jeremy Griffith presents us with. With the understanding of the human condition that explains why we departed from those Godly ideals, no longer does anybody have to preach, or be terrorised by, religious dogma. They can understand what such religious doctrine was providing (even though it could be hurtful) and the great role religions played in humanity’s journey.     And take heart Cynthia as the explanatory power of this knowledge is producing change faster than as you think which you can see from the thousands of impressive commendations on our website from thought leaders and members of the public, and the over 80 WTM Centres that have opened across the globe, the relief and excitement of finally being able to make sense of human life is turning into a tidal wave of world-saving support!!

Hi Kelly, thank you for your question. Racism is not instinctive to human behaviour but rather is a product of life under the duress of the human condition. Thanks for your feedback, Dale, but we maintain that Jeremy Griffith’s biological treatise deals with the underlying cause for the divisive state of the human condition and also recognises the fundamental biological origins of humans’ moral nature, which together transcends theories about tribalism being the reason for cooperation. We recommend reading FAQ 7.3 and Freedom Essay 14 as they explain why the ‘group selection’ biology being used to supposedly explain our cooperative heritage as being the product of a need to war against others successfully is wrong.

It explains, the astonishing claims being made about Jeremy Griffith’s work do warrant initial scepticism however they all withstand scrutiny as what he presents is 100% logic. Certainly, what appear to be outrageously hubristic claims can initially be off-putting, but once people start exploring this information they become appreciated for their forthright honesty in indicating where the solution to our problems lies as the commendations Jeremy’s work has received from eminent scientists and thinkers attest.     THE interview is about the answer to the human condition which is the question of why are we capable of such contradictory behaviour as to be selfless and loving but also selfish and destructive? While great care has been taken to present this answer as quickly and simply as possible in Part 1 of THE Interview (which is only 15 mins long) our FAQ 1.3 presents a very brief summary of the key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition.

Yes, Roland, the fundamental explanation presented here is very simple but, as explained in THE Interview, it does open up the historically off-limits subject of the human condition so some people can initially struggle to fully grasp or ‘hear’ what is being explained; there can be an initial ‘deaf effect’ (see FAQ 1.16). For those finding it “hard” to understand, we suggest re-watching THE Interview and then watch its companion presentation The Great Guilt that causes the Deaf Effect that comprehensively deals with our understandable fear, and resultant difficulty, of confronting the human condition. We did want to clarify that while Buddhism and other religions contain all manner of truths about human life, it is all from a pre-scientific view. Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for WHY do we no longer love ourselves, each other and the planet — why, when the universal ideals are to be cooperative, loving and selfless are we so competitive, unloving and selfish? It is this crux question that Jeremy Griffith confronts and answers through first principle biology because only through understanding the dark side of ourselves — why we departed from our all-loving instincts and became selfish — can we free ourselves from the human condition and legitimately bring “Love, Peace and Happiness” back to the world.     It’s marvellous you have found Jeremy Griffith’s work Andrew because yes at last we have the completely redeeming, uplifting and healing understanding of ourselves the human journey has been dedicated to finding! We can now acknowledge how much the innocence of children is absolutely devastated by the psychologically upset world they encounter. Thank goodness we now have the defence for our upset and can explain to children about the unavoidable journey of the human condition and how corrupted we’ve become, and that honesty is what will heal their, and all humans’, troubled minds.     Jeremy further explains this loss of innocence and the psychological process teenagers go through in his Freedom Essay 30. He identifies and terms this process ‘Resignation’ (which is the title of this essay) and explains it is the unacknowledged yet most important psychological event in human life. It represents a horrifically difficult time for virtually every adolescent, as it’s when we face and wrestle deeply with the issue of not only the imperfection of the non-ideal human-condition-stricken world around us, but also of the imperfection of our own behaviour—that we too suffer from anger, selfishness, meanness and indifference to others. But having no understanding of the human condition, and thus no answer to this confronting self-realisation, meant that the more we each grappled with the issue, the more depressing our thinking became until we realised that we had no choice but to ‘resign’ to living in denial of it. As Jeremy explains in Part 2 of THE Interview “we’ve had to live in denial of our corrupted, psychologically upset condition while we couldn’t explain it”. So at last we can explain to teenagers why they struggle so terribly, as you vividly describe, and bring this healing explanation to their desperately troubled minds.

    No Susan, what Jeremy Griffith’s explains is that we are “predisposed” to be loving and selfless! As is explained in THE Interview all humans are born with loving moral instincts but we all now variously suffer from a psychosis brought about by the conscious mind’s necessary yet corrupting search for knowledge. As Part 1 explains, essentially, when humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition. What is so significant about this is that we can now understanding we rightly left our loving, soulful instinctive state and suffered becoming corrupted in soul in order to fulfil the great potential of our conscious mind. So at last we can understand just how heroic the human journey to find knowledge has been and we no longer have to carry the immense burden of guilt and shame for having corrupted our original innocent state. So now the task of championing our ignorance and solving the human condition has been achieved we can legitimately return to a loving and selfless way of living!     It is also important to mention the very nature of the human condition means discussion of it can be initially difficult to access. It’s wonderful to learn of your interest in Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition William. It isn’t clear from your comment if you have watched THE Interview but in this interview Jeremy confronts and solves the human condition which is the underlying issue in all human affairs that has been driving “our own destruction”. Essentially he explains, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition (FAQ 1.3 provides a brief summary of this key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept). Another aspect of the human condition that is important to mention is it has been the most terrifying of all subjects to face because it is the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad and so we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it (FAQ 1.6 explains this initial ‘deaf effect’). So the truth is the real frontier and challenge for the human race—and most particularly for its designated vehicle for enquiry, science—was not outer space but inner space, solving the human condition no less. As Jeremy writes in his book Death by Dogma, “the real frontier is not outer space but inner space, the issue of the human condition. Outer space was a necessary distracting escape, but the way forward now that understanding of the human condition has finally been found is back to our soul’s world of soundness, real togetherness and real happiness.” So we maintain “the next step towards our survival and development” is to end the pain and denial in our brains, which this understanding of the human condition does. And after that, future generations, being free of the human condition, will be in a far sounder position to think about such questions.

What is so extraordinary about this breakthrough is we can now understand the reason why people seek power and money and see that it is a symptom of our fundamental insecurity caused by the human condition rather than the cause of the problem. In fact we can now understand that we all suffer from the human condition and are preoccupied seeking reinforcement and relief. Of course some people are more addicted to power as a means of relief than others, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t all suffer from the human condition in our own ways. So this undersanding is for everyone. You might be particularly interested in our FAQ 1.40 ‘How can you hope to transform the world? – In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’, in which it is explained that even those who are most committed to seeking validation through gaining power and wealth, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, biological explanation of the human condition that establishes our worth at the most fundamental level.
