Hi Jim, thanks for your question. The WTM is not a Christian group; what Jeremy Griffith is presenting is first principle-based, rational, testable, biological understanding of the human condition which has attracted the support of eminent scientists and thinkers (see our homepage). There is no faith or belief involved, it’s all about knowledge. This realm of inquiry is, however, where science and religion overlap—as the Nobel prize-winning physicist Charles H. Townes recognised, science and religion “both represent man’s efforts to understand his universe and must ultimately be dealing with the same substance. As we understand more in each realm, the two must grow together…converge they must.” So naturally in explaining the human condition the terms ‘good and evil’ and religious references are used, and through scientific explanation, finally demystified. We recommend reading FAQ 6.1 ‘Is this a religion?’

    We now have the ability, for the first time, to understand every aspect of human behaviour and our behaviour will change naturally as a result. At last we can understand we have been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because at last we have the first principle-based science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. Hi Jerry, we are not entirely sure what you mean by “spirit man”, but we can say that the more you digest this explanation, the more you will see that it does not rob life or explanations of life of its ‘spiritual’ dimension.     Yes, that is an assessment we hear occassionally. However, we suggest that you are not taking into account the huge subconscious longing that humans have to be liberated from the agony of the human condition. What this means is that when momentum reaches a certain point everyone will want to get on board. As Jeremy explains in chapter 9.9 of his book FREEDOM: “Although this new world for humans, which the World Transformation Movement has been established to facilitate, will, as has been stated, have a slow beginning because humans initially find it difficult even taking in or ‘hearing’ discussion about the human condition, once the WTM is discovered, word of it and what it offers every human and the world will spread like wildfire.’” And so even though we haven’t yet reached the tipping point in terms of awareness of this great breakthrough, you can see from the excitement and relief in our ecstatic responses to THE Interview, we are well on our way! Hi Dorothea. In THE Interview Jeremy Griffith refers to the Negative-Entropy-driven integrative meaning of existence, which he explains in depth in his definitive book FREEDOM, chapter 4. In chapter 4:3 of FREEDOM, Jeremy also explains how the idea of Intelligent Design (so-called ‘Christian Science’) grew out of a need to counter mechanistic science’s denial of this integrative process, however, ultimately, through its reliance on divine intervention, Intelligent Design is unscientific. With the explanation of the human condition, however, it is now possible for science to recognise that integration drives the development of matter, including the advent of ‘life’. Jeremy explains in his books that indeed the word ‘development’ will come to replace the word ‘evolution’ in biology because evolution can be, and has been, misrepresented as meaning change is undirected, meaningless and random. This understanding reconciles science and religion.

Thanks Stewart. More specifically, it is more about understanding our mindset. Understanding why when the ideals are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? This understanding is what liberates us from our psychologically upset condition, and is why Jeremy Griffith’s treatise is heralded as the breakthrough that can save the world.

You will see that in Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM there is a huge emphasis on the impact of nurturing in human development, both at an individual level and in the evolution of our species. We recommend chapter 5 of FREEDOM which explains the role of the nurturing based love indoctrination process in the development of our moral instinctive self or ‘soul’, and chapter 8 of FREEDOM, which is a revealing application of the ontogeny recapitulate phylogeny principle. In particular chapter 8:16C deals with the dire consequences of terminal levels of alienation destroying our ability to nurture our children. It compares child raising in so called primitive races with modern practices, and includes references to the work of D.W. Winnicot, Ashley Montague and Jean Liedloff.     This is the ultimate “acceptance of ourselves as good rather than bad”: we now have the accountable scientific explanation for why we humans are actually the absolute heroes of the whole story! It establishes that we are good and not bad after all. What THE Interview presents fundamentally lifts the ‘burden of guilt’ from the human race and allows us to forgive ourselves and others and finally end our psychologically troubled human condition—it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough.

    To start with the extent that this information is advertised, given, as we suggest any fair analysis shows it to be, a critical, world-saving scientific breakthrough, the WTM does all it can to ensure these insights reach every person around the world, and advertising boldly is a natural way to achieve that goal.     With regard to your criticisms around the scientific basis of this breakthrough, as Jeremy Griffith explains in chapters 2:4 and 2:12 of FREEDOM, human-condition-avoiding, mechanistic, reductionist, deductive science is an extremely limited and compromised form of science. As Templeton Prize-winning biologist Charles Birch, who was Jeremy’s professor of biology at Sydney University, said, “[mechanistic] science can’t deal with subjectivity [the issue of our psychologically distressed condition]…what we were all taught in universities is pretty much a dead end” and “Biology has not made any real advance since Darwin”. Indeed, mechanistic science is now so farcically dishonest and discredited in the public’s mind that many people have lost interest in it to the point of dismissing it as of no real use to us in terms of being able to understand and manage our behaviour! Freedom Essay/Video 14 makes this discreditation very clear.     Thankfully mechanistic science can now be replaced by human-condition-confronting-and-solving, truthful, holistic, inductive science—but of course the established, entrenched, traditional mechanistic scientific paradigm resists this massive paradigm shift. It does this by ignoring the new synthesis, as well as using such outrageously dishonest and irresponsible claims as ‘there is no evidence’, ‘the new synthesis presents no new data’, is an ‘untestable’ and ‘non-falsifiable’ hypothesis, and is therefore not even science! As is explained in FAQ 1.10, these accusations are transparently false and nothing more than the dying tremors of an old, extremely flawed form of dishonest science that has lived way past its used by date and is rapidly taking humanity to extinction!     FAQ 1.10 also provides the scientific evidence for Griffith’s instincts vs intellect explanation, and the outstanding commendations Jeremy Griffith’s work has received from extremely eminent scientists and thinkers can be seen on our homepage.     In addition, the whole of FREEDOM evidences that we emerged from a loving, sensitive past, not a savage, ‘red in tooth and claw’ past as is commonly held. For example, see analysis of the fossil record in chapter 5:5; see evidence from primatology in chapter 5:6, including similarities between our ancestors Ardipithecus and bonobos; see analysis of the relatively innocence of so-called primitive peoples, such as the San Bushmen and the Australian Aborigines, as well as evidence from mythology of a ‘golden age’ of innocence (for example, in chapter 2:7); see also evidence provided by the astonishing sensitivity to paleolithic rock painting (see chapter 8:11C); indeed, all of chapter 8), is a revealing application of the ontogeny (of our individual original loving innocence) recapitulate phylogeny (of our species’ original loving innocence) principle.

We appreciate your comment Abdulsammad. However, we suggest that while Islam and other religions contain all manner of truths about human life, it is all from a pre-scientific view. Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview and his book FREEDOM. In the end, it was only through finding that understanding that we could bring fundamental peace to our psychologically upset state.

Yes, understanding that the gene-based learning system can orientate a species, but that the nerve-based learning system is insightful, allows us to understand that the conscious mind was right to defy our instinctive self and search for understanding. In other words, we can now understand that to master the incredible potential of the conscious mind’s ability to self-manage, the mind had to defy our loving but dictatorial instincts which resulted in humans becoming angry, egocentric and alienated — the upset state of our human condition. Significantly psychological upset or a psychosis can be healed with understanding, so our upset behaviour is not unchangeable or immutable – a revelation that transforms the human race!     We suggest that the more you consider the interpretation of the Garden of Eden story given in THE Interview, the clearer it becomes that the story is a metaphor for the emergence of the conscious mind in the presence of pre-established loving instincts, and how the conscious mind was in effect ‘condemned’ by those instincts, and as a result became angry, egocentric and alienated.     With regard to the criticism that the metaphor really refers to knowledge of ‘morality’ rather than knowledge per se, it is worth pointing out that scholars have long interpreted ‘the tree of knowledge of good and evil’ to mean knowledge of everything rather than simply ‘knowledge of morality’. For example, in his book Genesis, the Old Testament scholar Claus Westermann wrote that the phrase “knowledge of good and evil” is: “… concerned with knowledge (or wisdom) in the general, comprehensive sense. Any limitation of the meaning of “the knowledge of good and evil” is thereby excluded. It can mean neither moral nor sexual nor any other partial knowledge, but only that knowledge which includes and determines human existence as a whole, [the ability to master]… one’s own existence.” Similarly, biblical scholars such as Cyrus H. Gordon (The Bible and the Ancient Near East), Harry M. Orlinsky (notes to the NJPS Torah) and Nicolas Wyatt (Space and Time in the Religious Life of the Near East) have written that the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” should be understood to mean a tree whose fruit imparts knowledge of everything, and does not necessarily contain a moral concept.     Again, we suggest that the meaning of the metaphor of eating the fruit from “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” is that we became conscious, and had to search for knowledge, with the ultimate knowledge being knowledge of our ‘good and evil’ afflicted condition. As Richard Heinberg wrote in the quote included in THE Interview: “Every religion begins with the recognition that human consciousness has been separated from the divine Source, that a former sense of oneness…has been lost…everywhere in religion and myth there is an acknowledgment that we have departed from an original…innocence…the cause of the Fall is described variously as disobedience, as the eating of a forbidden fruit, and as spiritual amnesia [alienation].”

    Hi A Ray C, we certainly respect your knowledge of Vedic religion (Vedic religions are the foundation of Hinduism), and don’t claim to be experts ourselves. What we would say is that in Freedom Essay 53 Jeremy includes a quote from the author Richard Heinberg in which he in turn quotes the Mahābharata: “The Krita Yuga was so named because there was but one religion, and all men were saintly; therefore they were not required to perform religious ceremonies. Holiness never grew less, and the people did not decrease. There were no gods in the Krita Yuga, and there were no demons…Men neither bought nor sold; there were no poor and no rich; there was no need to labor, because all that men required was obtained by the power of will; the chief virtue was the abandonment of desires…In those times, men lived as long as they chose to live, and were without any fear of Yima (the god of Death)…Being all like gods, they ascended to the sky and returned at will…Self-subdued and free from envy, they beheld the gods and the mighty prophets, and had a clear perception of all duties.”…And in the Vaya Purāna it is written: “They were characterized neither by righteousness nor unrighteousness…they moved about at will and lived in continual delight.” Furthermore, the ‘Yuga Cycle’ records how as time progresses through the Yugas, the world and humanity gradually become more materialistic, morally corrupt, and disconnected from divine wisdom.     So it does appear that the Vedic tradition includes reference of our species’ original all-loving and all-sensitive, bonobo-like innocent time before we became fully conscious and the psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated state of the human condition emerged. A    s to the reason for that deterioration, our understanding is that the Vedic tradition puts it down to attachment, desire, ego, and ignorance. In his video to accompany the founding of the Kolkata WTM Centre, Sanjoy Pal says that, “The instinct vs intellect conflict is also recognised in most mythologies, religions, philosophy, psychology, and psychiatry as the self or consciousness being divided. For example, the Bible story of Adam and Eve, the Upanishad story [the Upanishad is one of the main Vedic texts] of the two birds Jiva and Atman in ‘Tree of Life’, and the native American parable of the ‘The Story of Two Wolves’, one evil and the other good, both fighting inside every person and the wolf that gets more nourishment, wins the battle.”     It may well be that upon digestion of the instinct vs intellect understanding of the human condition, you decide that it actually complements what you have been taught by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. Yes, all the problems in the world that we are facing like over-population, environmental devastation, genocide, terrorism, mass displacement of peoples, starvation, runaway diseases, gross inequality, ‘racial’ and gender oppression, polarised politics, rampant corruption and other crimes, drug abuse, family breakdown, and epidemic levels of obesity, chronic anxiety, depression, unhappiness and loneliness, are all symptoms of a deeper problem. To truly solve the world’s problems we need to address and fix the underlying issue responsible for these problems, which is the human condition – our corrupted, psychologically upset state, which is what Jeremy Griffith has done.

Great Overview

We think you would be astonished at just how much we can now understand with the human condition solved. As the eminent ecologist Professor Stuart Hurlbert from San Diego State University, California, wrote: "I am stunned & honored to have lived to see the coming of ‘Darwin II’. I say this because after Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection explained the variety of life, Jeremy Griffith has gone on to solve the other four main questions science had to answer about our world and place in it. They are: 1) the dilemma of the human condition, which his instinct vs intellect explanation in chapter 3 of his main, seminal book FREEDOM finally solves; 2) how we humans became fully conscious when other species haven’t, which he answers in chapter 7; 3) the origins of humans’ unique moral nature, which he answers in chapter 5, which it turns out American philosopher John Fiske had already explained in 1874 but mechanistic science had ignored; and 4) the truth of the Integrative Meaning of existence (which we have personified as ‘God’), in chapter 4, which only a rare few thinkers in history have been able to recognize. And having been able to solve those primary issues he has, in chapter 8, using first principle and fully accountable biological explanations been able to resolve all the secondary problems like: the polarized state of politics; the rift between men and women; the schism between science and religion; the conflict between individuals and between races (thus ending aggression and war at its source); and, above all, bring an end to the threat of terminal psychosis and our species’ extinction! A truly phenomenal, beyond description, scientific achievement!" And in his Introduction to FREEDOM, Professor Harry Prosen, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, emphasised this avalanche of understanding when he wrote, “…what this book effectively does is take humanity from a state of bewilderment about the nature of human behavior and existence to a state of profound understanding of our lives. It truly is a case of having got all the truth up in one go.”

With regard to evolution, you can certainly believe whatever you wish, however we will have to agree to disagree, as we are putting forward a biological explanation for our human condition that is based on the fact of human evolution. It is worth pointing out that since Darwin’s death, accumulating evidence has only cemented the truth of natural selection. To that point where, as was reported in Scientific American in 2009, “No educated person any longer questions the validity of the so-called theory of evolution, which we now know to be a simple fact. Likewise, most of Darwin’s particular theses have been fully confirmed, such as that of common descent, the gradualism of evolution, and his explanatory theory of natural selection.” (Ernst Mayr, Darwin’s influence on Modern Thought). However, it is worth considering that with the human condition solved, a lot of things can be demystified and explained properly, and that includes ‘evolution’. We can now understand and admit that ‘development’ is a more accurate word than ‘evolution’, for while evolution implies that organisms do change or evolve it avoids acknowledging that there is a direction and purpose to that change, which is to develop the order of matter, a process that is driven by the physical law of Negative Entropy. Until we could defend our apparently divisive human condition, we have not been able to admit to this Integrative Meaning of existence, and so mechanistic science in particular has not been able to admit that evolution is a ‘developmental’ process not a random one. Founded in Sydney in 1983, the WTM is a global not-for-profit movement dedicated to transforming the individual, the human race and thus our world through bringing psychologically relieving biological understanding to the underlying problem in all human affairs of the human condition, humans’ extraordinary capacity for what has been referred to as ‘good and evil’.     In Part 1 of THE Interview Jeremy Griffith addresses the almost universal excuse for our angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour, which is that it is due to selfish, must-reproduce-our-genes, survival-of-the-fittest, ‘savage instincts’ within us, which the conscious mind then has to try and control, which is what you are advocating. However, with our psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated state now defended, it is now safe to admit that our human instincts are loving – see Part 3 of THE Interview.     And yes, with ‘evil’ being explained as the psychological state of upset resulting from the instinct vs intellect clash, it is possible to ‘cure’ it, or more accurately, ameliorate it. As the highly respected psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, wrote: “the beauty of Griffith’s treatise is that the healing starts at the macro level of the universal human condition; the healing of the shame and blame that the whole human race has suffered from…It brings the greater context and love to all human psychosis and suffering, and then, from under the umbrella of that safe position, everyone can gradually work inwards to their particular experience of all the imperfections in human life that have now, finally, been made sense of.”     We also recommend our FAQs on religion.

Sorry you couldn’t stay the journey Charlee. Jeremy Griffith’s work opens up a new way of thinking so it takes a little time to fully absorb this new paradigm – and the human condition does present the ultimate paradox! The biological ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition allows us to understand the real merits and liabilities of both the left and right wing. His work identifies that the problem of the right-wing is its destructiveness, however, through its support of egocentricity and selfishness, it does encourage the search for knowledge to continue. On the other hand the left wing’s insistence on ideal behaviour had the effect of oppressing and thus regressing, not ‘progressing’, the all-important search for knowledge. Most importantly, this understanding brings a profound understanding to both sides which ultimately will bring an end to the whole ugly business of politics.
