A wonderful way of looking at our human condition! As a woman, I must point out that the descriptors are excessively macho & even seem to avoid references to our creative essence. Nonetheless, I anticipate that our artistic, philosophical, nurturing, altruistic nature will be addressed later in this piece.

WTM Admin

THE Interview is about both men and women. It explains the universal psychosis all humans suffer from caused by the clash between our instinct and intellect. The female perspective is certainly not missing from Jeremy Griffith’s treatise and both the male and female contribution to the human journey are fully explained and equally acknowledged. In fact, as is introduced in Part 3 of THE Interview, matriarchy is finally given the recognition and honour it deserves with Jeremy’s explanation of how it was women’s maternal love that gave us our moral soul and created humanity no less! (This love-indoctrination process is further explained in Freedom Essay 21 and fully explained chapter 5 of his definitive book FREEDOM.) And what is astonishing is that despite our psychologically upset condition this biological treatise establishes all humans are equally good, worthwhile, meaningful and wonderful regardless of gender, age, religion, etc. See biologist Dr Anna Fitzgerald’s video commendation about how this explanation is the real liberation of women and also our FAQs on men and women.

Love is the message that came out of watching this, yet we are controlled by others, through religion, politics, hierarchy, establishment....I don’t see any love within these groups and ask how do those people wake up to this?

WTM Admin

Being able to understand the human condition, we can now see that everyone has suffered from it, and all our institutions, including the ones you list, have been a manifestation of our insecure, psychologically upset condition. So those institutions are not creating the problem, they are just a manifestation of it, which means they will be solved when we solve the human condition in each of us. Part 4 of THE Interview, titled ‘How does the psychological rehabilitation of the human race that the arrival of understanding of the human condition finally makes possible actually occur?’, presents the answer to how this understanding allows us to transform our lives. It explains that it will take a number of generations for the upset within us to be completely healed but it also stresses importantly we can be immediately free of its effects. Certainly there is habituation to overcome and humans do find change difficult but at last we can understand our behaviour has been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. So instead of being focused on power, fame, fortune and glory, all our energies will be freed to truly work together on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering and save our world. FAQ 1.40 addresses the questions of ‘How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’.

In Part 1 of THE Interview Jeremy Griffith addresses the almost universal excuse for our angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour, which is that it is due to selfish, must-reproduce-our-genes, survival-of-the-fittest, ‘savage instincts’ within us, which is what you are advocating. However, with our psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated state now defended, it is now safe to admit that our human instincts are loving – see Part 3 of THE Interview.

Jason Glbert

Thank you 🙏 I suffer from depression and anxiety. I have a lot of noise in my head, I am hoping to get some clarity.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your comment Jason. It’s not clear if you have watched THE Interview but in this presentation biologist Jeremy Griffith explains all humans are born with all-loving, moral instincts but we now suffer from a universal psychosis caused by the clash between our instinct and intellect. We became psychologically upset and alienated from our original selfless state because of our conscious mind’s necessary, and indeed heroic, search for knowledge, which has caused immense anxiety and depression in the world. So the human condition has been the source of such unbearable suffering for humans, it has been a deeply tragic reality. However, being able to at last understand the source of this unavoidable upset is so immensely relieving and reconciling we can all begin to come in from the cold as it were. As the distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen (who wrote the Introduction to Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM) writes: “What Griffith is presenting is understanding of the source insecurity that the whole human race suffers from for having destroyed our species’ innocent soul. It is a universal self-blame that his understanding at last provides healing insight into. All human behavior is saturated with that universal insecure, depressing state and resulting anger, egocentricity and alienation that has developed from it, but we finally have the compassionate foundation insight needed to dismantle all that ‘upset’/psychosis. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin" (see our FAQ 1.34 ‘How does this help with an individual’s depression and psychosis’).     It’s important to stress explanation of the human condition represents such a big change in the way we think about humans so we need to give ourselves time to adjust. And, as it necessarily gets the truth up about our psychological upset, it can be very confronting which is why we always encourage people to take their time with it, go at a pace that suits them. What is so significant and relieving about this new understanding is the overarching truth that we no longer have to be burdened by the fundamental question of whether we are good or bad because our core goodness as individuals and as a species has been biologically established. Our psychological upset was the price humans had to pay for searching for knowledge so the human story is the greatest, most heroic story ever told. That macro comforting truth looks after all humans now and we can treat ourselves with great compassion and kindness, and most significantly, we don’t have to overly confront the upset within us. This is summarised in FAQ 1.19 ‘A caution about the danger of over-exposure / Advice for people with mental health issues’ which we encourage you to read Jason.

VERY INFORMATIVE, AMAZING, TOTAL GENIUS.

Jeanette

I think of each person as a book. The cover does not tell us about the person. If we believe that each one of us have a story behind us. When we learn that, we will be able to understand each other.

WTM Admin

It is true that humans have had to wear ‘facades’ hiding their real personality. What is being presented here allows us to profoundly understand the inner, heroic personality of each human. At last we can understand our behaviour has been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth. Certainly we each have our own story to tell because the human condition manifests in different ways in all as a result of our own experiences and exposure to the world, but the clash between instinct and intellect is the source of all our insecurity and subsequent anger, egocentricity and alienation. But what is so exciting is that explaining it makes all those defensive behaviours redundant and we can truly be liberated from the human condition.

Adam

I am an evolutionary biologist and I have been studying and researching human evolution and early to modern human psychology, ask me anything, it looks like you need proper education

WTM Admin

Dear Adam, we greatly appreciate your interest in Jeremy Griffith’s treatise on the human condition. As Jeremy explains in chapters 2:4 and 2:12 of FREEDOM, human-condition-avoiding, mechanistic, reductionist, deductive science is an extremely limited and compromised form of science. As Templeton Prize-winning biologist Charles Birch, who was Jeremy’s professor of biology at Sydney University, said, “[mechanistic] science can’t deal with subjectivity [the issue of our psychologically distressed condition]…what we were all taught in universities is pretty much a dead end” and “Biology has not made any real advance since Darwin”. Indeed, mechanistic science is now so farcically dishonest and discredited in the public’s mind that many people have lost interest in it to the point of dismissing it as of no real use to us in terms of being able to understand and manage our behaviour! Freedom Essay/Video 14 makes this discreditation very clear.     Thankfully mechanistic science can now be replaced by human-condition-confronting-and-solving, truthful, holistic, inductive science—but of course the established, entrenched, traditional mechanistic scientific paradigm resists this massive paradigm shift. It does this by ignoring the new synthesis, as well as using such outrageously dishonest and irresponsible claims as ‘the new synthesis presents no new data’, is an ‘untestable’ and ‘non-falsifiable’ hypothesis, and is therefore not even science! As is explained in FAQ 1.10, these accusations are transparently false and nothing more than the dying tremors of an old, extremely flawed form of dishonest science that has lived way past its used by date and is rapidly taking humanity to extinction!     It really is at the 11th hour that the often highly intellectualised, sophisticated-in-the-art-of-denial, pretentious, makes-it-seem-like-unreachable-knowledge-for-the-average-person, scientific presentations from the ivory towers of human-condition-avoiding academia are at last replaced by truthful, sensible, fully accountable, relatively simple and straightforward, soul-ualised not intellect-ualised scientific presentations, which is what FREEDOM provides for the human race.     As to the veracity of Jeremy’s biological treatise, our website also contains many endorsements from eminent scientists, such as Professor Scott Churchill, the then Chair of the Psychology Department at the University of Dallas, writing specifically about Jeremy’s insight into evolutionary biology, that “I have recommended his [Griffith’s] more recent work to my students precisely for his razor-sharp clarifications of positions of contemporary authors like Edward O. Wilson, Richard Dawkins, and Robert Wright. Griffith manages to summarize book-length expositions of these oftentimes obtuse and varying perspectives on human evolution with clarity and brilliance” (Expert Report, 2007).

Wow what a genius

Michael O'Doherty

There are more things in heaven and earth, . . . . . . , than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Is there any explanation ?

WTM Admin

Yes, human behaviour has seeemed inexplicable Michael. And the very nature of the human condition, the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad, means explanation of it can be initially difficult to access. It has been the most unbearably depressing and terrifying of subjects to face — why are we capable of such contradictory behaviour as to be selfless and loving but also selfish and destructive? Another quote from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, illustrates this extraordinary contradiction: “What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty!…In action how like an angel! In apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world! The paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? [Brutal and barbaric] Man delights not me.”     Until that question about our fundamental worth could be answered, which it has in THE Interview, we have lived with a feeling of unworthiness, insecurity, shame and guilt and, necessarily, in almost total denial of the human condition, so it does take a while to fully appreciate the extent of our denial and the impact this can have on the way we respond to discussion of it.

Passionate and simple narration of new paradigm shift that is far ahead of its time. The victory of human intellect over basic instinct.💕

Andy Casement

Our problems clearly stem from the top. When we are led by the politics of madman then we have no chance.

WTM Admin

Thanks Andy. We would just make the point that now we can understand the human condition, we can see that everyone has suffered from it – all our institutions, including our political and commercial systems, have simply been a manifestation of the insecure, psychologically upset condition that we all suffer from. Only solving the human condition can stop the destruction of our world that is happening everywhere we look, see FAQ 1.6.

Interesante información sobre la condición humana de como se va transformando con problemas psicológicos y esto es producto de la sociedad industrializada como estimula. Y no actuamos consiente mente sino la actitud de respuesta del momento. [Interesting information about the human condition, how it’s transformed by psychological problems, and how this is a product of the industrialized society it stimulates. We don’t act consciously, but rather according to the attitude of the moment (translated from Spanish).]

WTM Admin

We welcome your interest Etel and in case you aren’t aware we have a number of Spanish translations including THE Interview and some of Jeremy Griffith’s books, including his main book FREEDOM. They are all freely available on the translations page on our website. We also have a WTM Centre in Madrid (the Spanish version is coming soon-- y próximamente la versión en español) which was founded by David Garcia. WTM Madrid website includes David’s absolutely wonderful and helpful video where he so clearly relays his experience in discovering Jeremy Griffith’s scientific breakthrough. And the WTM Colombian Centre presents its website in Spanish, including centre founder Carlos Cruz Blanco’s welcome video, so there is a feast of Spanish material available! As well you can watch all the videos on our website using the subtitles function (see the ‘cc’ icon at the bottom of the video player).     Explanation of the human condition is endlessly fascinating but it introduces an entirely new framework of knowledge, a massive paradigm shift in how we view humans, which takes time to absorb. We wanted to clarify that our psychological problems or upset is caused by the human condition rather than being a product of our industrialised society. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition which drives our behaviour. Thankfully finding this key understanding ends the underlying pain in our brains and allows the human race to become psychologically secure, happy and sane again, see FAQ 1.6 ‘Why does understanding of the human condition solve everything?’.

Sigidi Siyanda

Most powerful explanation of the human condition

Dave E. Varvel

I appreciate the excellent info! I am currently reading “A New Earth” Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle. Jeremy Griffith’s observations give me hope that we have a path to saving humanity, however I am fearful that the current state of world affairs would indicate that I may not live long enough to see humans mimic bonobos. It takes a village, so I guess I will stay in my lane and hope my story will encourage others to join our team. Thanks for sharing. Dave

WTM Admin

That’s wonderful THE Interview is resonating with you Dave and giving you hope. You might be interested in reading our FAQ 6.5 which explains the huge difference between Jeremy Griffith’s and Eckhart Tolle’s work. Understanding the human condition is the great unlocking point in the human journey of conscious thought and enquiry and its resolution leads, at last, to the real basis for personal and global transformation. While the New Age movement, and its proponents like Tolle, focus on teaching us to restrain and transcend our anger, alienation and selfish egocentricity, the obvious truth is we needed to resolve it at its source and that is the great breakthrough Jeremy’s work presents. We are thinking beings, we need brain food not brain anaesthetic; we needed answers for our conscious thinking mind, without that all else is ultimately futile.     The world is certainly fast reaching its 11th hour, but you can take heart as this understanding will turn things around incredibly quickly as evidenced by the growing momentum of support, see the thousands of impressive commendations Jeremy’s work has received from thought leaders and members of the public and the over 80 WTM Centres that have opened across the globe. It will transform things quickly because it explains and solves the underlying cause of all our selfishness, anger and egocentricity; see FAQ 1.40 ‘Aren’t the problems of the world too overwhelming to ever be fixed? / Isn’t it too late to save the world? / How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful?’. It is explained there that even those who are most committed to seeking validation through gaining power and wealth, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, biological explanation of the human condition that establishes our worth at the most fundamental level. So yes it will now be possible to return to a more innocent, nature-connected, non-egocentric existence, the immediate priority now is to change the psychological focus of our lives that is naturally brought about through our newfound ability to compassionately understand the very good reason for and importance of our corrupting search for knowledge, which allows us to genuinely and legitimately return to our cooperative and loving instincts from a basis of understanding. This Transformed Way of Living is explained in FAQ 4.1.

Greg

Everyone should listen to this video which will allow you to find a better direction in this stress filled world.

Luca Fenghi

We can do it!!! Finally I understand!!! Thank you!!!

Morris Macri

Finding God is the way to go not all this scientific research .love for one onother is the answer. As simple as it sounds try it and you’ll see.God bless everyone 🙏

WTM Admin

Thank you for your comment Morris. We certainly respect people’s religious views however we felt it was important to mention that Jeremy Griffith’s work doesn’t contradict the Bible. It simply brings biological understanding to all those pre-scientific concepts. In fact Jeremy considers the Bible to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from a pre-science view. For those interested in exploring this further we suggest FAQ 6.3 'Does understanding of the human condition undermine a faith in religion or God?’. What is unique about this critical new science is it gets to the bottom of the crux question of the human condition, which is WHY do we no longer love one another — why when the universal ideals are to be loving and selfless are we so competitive and selfish? It is this question that Jeremy confronts and answers through first principle biology because only through understanding the dark side of ourselves — why we departed from our all-loving instincts and became selfish — can we free ourselves from the human condition and truly love ourselves and each other again.

Tariq

I look forward to learning from your very important subject. I often wonder about the crusaders behaviour vs Muslim rulers of the time. Who killed millions of indigenous populations around the world and occupied their land. The very same people are now doing the same all over the world. Quran claims that how we control our behaviour is through this book from the creator. Have you studied it.

WTM Admin

What is explained by Jeremy Griffith in THE Interview is that all human aggression and anger, in our individual lives right through to international conflicts, is ultimately an expression of our psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated human condition. He describes and explains the source of the ferociously angry dark side in humans, to quote Part 4 “While we have learnt to significantly restrain and conceal—‘civilise’ as we refer to it—the phenomenal amount of upset within us, under the surface we all must be boiling with rage, and sometimes, when our restraint can no longer find a way to contain it, that anger must express itself—hence our capacity for shocking acts of cruelty, sadism, hate, murder and war.” We suggest that as you digest Jeremy’s understanding of the human condition, you will see that the only way we could end our destructive behaviour, and legitimately return to the cooperative and loving state humanity once lived in and we all long for, was through removing the insecurity that was driving that divisive behaviour, which is what Jeremy’s explanation makes possible. You may also be interested in Freedom Essay 29, ‘Can human conflict ever be brought to an end’.     Jeremy’s work doesn’t contradict a belief in religion or God. In fact Jeremy has a deep respect for religious scripture and references it throughout his work (including the Quran) and often considers it to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing the truth about human life albeit from a pre-science view, which his work simply brings biological understanding to. With understanding of the human condition we can now appreciate that in order to encourage people to adhere to the integrative, ‘Godly’, cooperative ideals of life, religions were a main way of restraining or “controlling” our upset behaviour by making people fearful of behaving in an overly angry, egocentric and alienated way. Obviously what was desperately missing was the reconciling understanding of our upset behaviour and the Godly ideals; reconciling understanding of the human condition in fact—which is exactly what Jeremy presents us with, but at last can understand what such religious doctrine was providing and the great role religions played in humanity’s journey. You might also find FAQ 6.3 ‘Does understanding of the human condition undermine a faith in religion or God? / How does this affect my personal religious practice? / How can you reconcile the explanation of the human condition that defends the upset state with religious teachings that condemn upset?’ most revealing to read.

Sailesh Maharaj

Great, insightful and easily understandable

Sue

So! The internal war of conflict overflows into our external world.

WTM Admin

Yes Sue that’s a great way to sum it up! At last being able to understand the war between our instinct and intellect is the breakthrough that every human has been striving for since the emergence of consciousness, and it redeems and rehabilitates every single human on the planet. Biologist Jeremy Griffith’s instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition explains how our conscious mind became alienated from our loving, cooperative instinctive self, resulting in a universal psychosis. So all the problems we’re experiencing on this planet, aside from natural phenomenon, are caused by our upset psychology. Only the psychosis-addressing-and-solving, real explanation of the human condition can stop the destruction of our world and the disintegration of society that is happening everywhere we look—and it is precisely this real psychologically redeeming, relieving and transforming explanation that Jeremy has delivered in this instinct vs intellect understanding of the human condition. See FAQ 1.6 ‘Why does understanding solves everything’.

Dee

This helps so much, as we experience what is happening in the world now. The anxiety, fear, and stress caused by actions of others is still present, however more understandable due to this insight into the human condition.

Mark pugh

Life changing, yet so simple.

Robin

Causes for survival preserved primal instincts. As humanity evolved the underlying survival pressures reinforced these instincts. Therefore a constant conflict between the inherent goodness of us humans and the darkside of our instincts has been/and is the greatest misery of all mankind. As Mencius believed that human nature is inherently good and as we will all agree to it the mission of WTM’s is indeed well intended but a long (generational) haul.

WTM Admin

Thanks for your comment Robin. It is true that genes normally can’t select for unconditionally selfless, fully cooperative traits, simply because such traits tend to be self-eliminating and so normally can’t become established in a species. However, in Part 3 of THE Interview, Jeremy explains that there was a way that a species could overcome this ‘selfish genetic imperative’ and that was through the nurturing process of love-indoctrination. The ‘trick’ with love-indoctrination was that maternalism was a selfish trait and so it could be genetically reinforced, but it had a side-effect, which was to train offspring in acting selflessly. Once the process was producing enough selfless individuals, these individuals would no longer lose mating opportunities to selfish individuals. You can read more about the love-indoctrination process in Freedom Essay 21.     Jeremy’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition explains that we became psychologically upset sufferers of the angry, egocentric and alienated human condition as the unavoidable result of a clash between those pre-established instincts and emerging conscious mind. Jeremy explains in THE Interview that without this defence for our upset state we have sought to falsely blame our behaviour on ‘savage instincts’ within us. The ‘multi-level selection’ theory, which you mention, which claims we have loving instincts for interactions within the group, and aggressive instincts for interactions outside the group, is a variant of this ‘savage instincts’ excuse, and is debunked in chapter 2.11 of FREEDOM. We suggest that with this true defence for our behaviour established, it is now possible to consider that there is clear evidence that humans developed from a cooperative and loving ancestor – of which the bonobos are a living model; you can read about the fossil evidence for this cooperative past in chapter 5:5 of FREEDOM. All this evidence has lead the prominent anthropologist C. Owen Lovejoy to write that “our species-defining cooperative mutualism can now be seen to extend well beyond the deepest Pliocene [well beyond 5.3 mya]”.     So it becomes clear that our selfish and aggressive behaviour is not instinctive, rather it is psychological in origin, the result of a clash between our emerging conscious mind, and pre-established loving instincts. And psychoses can be healed with understanding, which would not be the case if it was instinctive, so that’s the importance of the psychosis-addressing-and-solving, explanation of the human condition presented in THE Interview.

Pascaline Benjamin

This is a better truth than what is written in the Bible. May the Cosmic and the Universe itself protect this truth and use it to transform the human race.

WTM Admin

Thanks Pascaline. We can now understand that while the corrupting search for knowledge was underway religion played a significant role as both the custodian of the ideal state and as a means of solace for those exhausted by the corrupting journey. However, it follows that with the redeeming biological understanding of why we had to depart from our original innocence now found, those metaphysical, faith-based accounts that looked after us are now redundant. In fact, what people discover is Jeremy Griffith’s work actually reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. In fact, it presents the fulfilment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves, see FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’.

Noel Monsurate

Instincts v/s conscious...? Tribe , community....???

WTM Admin

It isn’t clear exactly what you are asking Noel but THE Interview does present Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the human condition which explains that it was the clash between our pre-existing instincts and the development of our conscious mind that is the underlying cause for the divisive state of the human condition. Our FAQ 1.3 presents a very brief summary of this key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept. In THE Interview Jeremy also recognises the fundamental biological origins of humans’ cooperative, moral nature, which together transcends theories about tribalism being the reason for cooperation. We recommend reading FAQ 7.3 and Freedom Essay 14 as they explain why the ‘group selection’ biology being used to supposedly explain our cooperative heritage as being the product of a need to war against others successfully is flawed biology.

I don’t think that Every human is good.

WTM Admin

We suggest that the more you digest Jeremy Griffith’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation, the more you will realise how accountable it is in getting to the source of all humanity’s psychological upset, which in the extreme, produces people who are capable of what we have described as ‘evil’. Of course this breakthrough explanation doesn’t condone or sanction the horrendous atrocities humans can commit rather, through bringing compassionate understanding to the source of humans’ upset behaviour, it gives us the power to ameliorate and thus subside and ultimately eliminate it, see FAQ 1.38 ‘Aren’t some people just born psychopathic, or even ‘evil’? / How does this explanation rehabilitate people capable of ‘evil’ behaviour? / Does this condone ‘evil’ behaviour?’.

Really incredible

Bernardo Muatinte, Mozambique

This interview brought excellent knowledge. Now, let’s apply to fix the world, taking into account that Africans show a geometric increase in reproduction and population numbers vs resource depletion.

WTM Admin

Hi Bernardo. Yes, while Jeremy Griffith’s work explains that issues such as overpopulation — and related issues like environmental destruction and resource depletion — are merely symptoms of a deeper problem and will not fundamentally change at all until we solve this dilemma of the human condition, there is no doubt that they are exacerbating the amount of anxiety and overall psychological upset in the world. Humanity really is at an end-game situation, but thankfully this redeeming, reconciling and rehabilitating understanding has arrived in just the nick of time! This is the concept which the Vedas teaches. I am Excited to listen to the speaker as he explains it in a way that every one interested will understand and does not have to know Sanskrit. I am so delighted to listen on and continue to follow. Regards Satie Lall of Canada

WTM Admin

Yes, while the Vedas and other religions contain all manner of truths about human life, it is all from a pre-scientific view. Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview and his book FREEDOM. We suggest FAQ 1.13 ‘Is this original or new?’ which explains the unique significance of Jeremy Griffith’s work.

Brilliant, such a sigh of relief. 😌 The truths of his theory planted seeds in my psyche, which gave me a moment of clarity I cannot give enough props to with the human language. I love that God is included in the theology, not saying belief in God is necessary, however for me, personally, it really hit home. All religions have something commendable about them. Even the “religion” of atheism or science alone.. still offers something worth while. I’ve gained wisdom from all facets of “religion,” or perhaps I should say all beliefs. But, Jeremy’s spin on the human condition really hits home for me. I hope it reaches as many people as it can, especially if it leads to the clarity/epiphany that I had... that eureka moment... freaking brilliant!!

I think I will have to listen to it a few more times to get a full grasp of what was happening here. However, I look forward to it.

.. And so, knowing and admitting all this... where is it leading us, and what is the benefit of it? Don’t we inherantly already know this of our behaviour by our very conscience?

WTM Admin

What is so extraordinary about Jeremy Griffith’s biological treatise is that it logically and accountably defends human selfishness and egocentricity. And it is only with that defence of our ‘dark side’, through finding the good reason that we had to defy our instincts, that we can reconcile ourselves with our instincts and behave in accord with our conscience, because all our defensive behaviours (our anger, egocentricity and alienation) are now redundant. We no longer need them because we have the real defence for why we had to defy our instincts. No other approach could bring about a fundamental change in our situation because no other approach dealt with the fundamental issue of the source of our destructive behaviour.

It’s most what the Bible tells us to a degree. Message been around for thousands of years.

I heard the first part of the interview when I was searching through the internet for more information about Jeremy Griffith his life background and personal story, and want to read more about the human condition and behavior and make a complete investigation about some psychologists that have made research about the same theme and find what is extraordinary about this discovery.

He gets it wrong. I can say with confidence that his interpretation of human behavior is fundamentally flawed. Darwin’s theory of evolution, particularly the origin of species, emphasizes that selective pressures embedded in the genome drive evolutionary success — and human behavior is no exception. Homo sapiens, our species, prevailed in a competitive landscape against other human species precisely because certain genetic traits offered a survival advantage. To overlook or dismiss this biological foundation when analyzing human behavior undermines the validity of any such thesis. Yes, humans are capable of change—driven by social pressures, cultural evolution, and the need for cooperation. But proposing a religious framework as the primary solution is misguided. While the idea of progressing toward a shared moral vision—an “all in this together” mentality—is noble and necessary, religion itself has historically been a source of conflict and division.

WTM Admin

Firstly, what is presented is not religious. It is a fully accountable, rational, scientific explanation of the human condition.     For example, the selective advantage that normally shapes an animal’s genome is not overlooked. It is true that genes normally can’t select for unconditionally selfless, fully cooperative traits, simply because such traits tend to be self-eliminating and so normally can’t become established in a species. And so in Part 1 of THE Interview Jeremy Griffith addresses the almost universal excuse for our angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour, which is that it is due to selfish, must-reproduce-our-genes, survival-of-the-fittest, ‘savage instincts’ within us, which is what you are advocating. However, with our psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated state now defended, it is now safe to admit that our human instincts are loving. In Part 3 of THE Interview, Jeremy explains that there was a way that a species could overcome this ‘selfish genetic imperative’ and that was through the nurturing process of love-indoctrination. The whole of FREEDOM evidences that we emerged from an innocent past, not a savage, ‘red in tooth and claw’ past as is commonly held. An important part of the evidence for this is the sensitive and cooperative bonobos’ similarity to those ancestors. In chapter 5:5 of his book FREEDOM, Jeremy Griffith includes an analysis of the hominin fossil record (particularly Ardipithecus) that evidences that on the basis of physique, intelligence, small canines, bipedality the bonobos present a very accurate model of our human ancestors. Fossil evidence of our cooperative past, including reduced canines, has lead the prominent anthropologist C. Owen Lovejoy to write that “our species-defining cooperative mutualism can now be seen to extend well beyond the deepest Pliocene [well beyond 5.3 mya]”. No, our selfishness and aggression is not instinctive in origin; all the evidence shows that our instinctive heritage is cooperative. Further evidence of a cooperative past is also presented in Jeremy’s analysis of gentleness of so-called primitive peoples, such as the San Bushmen and the Australian Aborigines, as well as evidence from mythology of a ‘golden age’ of innocence (for example, in chapter 2:7); see also evidence provided by the astonishing sensitivity to paleolithic rock painting (see chapter 8:11C); indeed, all of chapter 8), is a revealing application of the ontogeny recapitulate phylogeny principle.     Again, without the defence of our aggressive behaviour we have not been able to admit how cooperative our heritage is, and therefore how entirely cooperative and loving our instincts are. However, we now have that redeeming biological defence of our condition, and with that defence, it does become very clear that the idea that we have savage instincts is just an excuse that we used.

Having gone through so much loss and trauma in past two years then to listen to this interview was so comforting. Since a child I have felt bad or doing things wrong, 70 years go by and now I can understand the human development pre me and why I live with such shame and guilt. Time to heal time to release and live in peace. Jeremy you are a sage, a wise man let your words be heard around the world. In peace

Liliana Santirso

Awesome. So urgent to try to understand our social environment .

This is mostly what all thinking people have been wondering about, I presume. Dr. Griffith manages to tie it all up in one coherent, understandable “package”. Ingenious.

I am sorry to say this theory doesnt work, Enough to look at the world now, Nobody wants to change. There is evil in the world. People only change by turning to God. Often do it in prison, And not in therapies.

WTM Admin

While it takes some time to digest, you will see that Jeremy Griffith’s work will bring about a profound change in the world, and not through turning to God, or because their lives have reached rock bottom. It does this by answering the essential question of ‘why, when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish?’. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview. While religious assurances, such as ‘God loves you’ provided comfort, they failed to explain WHY we are lovable, and it is that missing explanation that this breakthrough provides. Most wonderfully, by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts (which is that genes can orientate but nerves need to understand) our defensive behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation are made redundant, which means we are finally in a position to ‘bring out human nobility and transform…’ In Part 4 of THE Interview, Jeremy explains how the psychological rehabilitation of the human race that the arrival of understanding of the human condition finally makes possible, actually occurs.

Gloria Warren

Would like to know about Jeremy Griffith’s information

WTM Admin

It’s wonderful to have your interest Gloria! The best place to start is to watch THE Interview, in which biologist Jeremy Griffith presents his breakthrough ‘instinct v intellect’ explanation of the human condition, it’s the ideal introduction to his work. Part 1 of THE Interview (which is only 15 mins long) presents the explanation as quickly and simply as possible and our FAQ 1.3 gives a very brief summary of the key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition, so this couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough!

Great stuff

Obaidullah Al-Ejaz

Facts matter

WTM Admin

They certainly do Charles and given Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation introduces a new scientific paradigm, based on confronting rather than the historic practice of avoiding the issue of the human condition, we encourage you to re-watch THE Interview and consider the evidence it presents. Also, it needs to be emphasised that the subject of the human condition is the most important but also the most difficult and thus contentious of all subjects for humans to address because it deals with the ultimate confronting issue of ‘self’. When the renowned Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson wrote, ‘There is no grail more elusive or precious in the life of the mind than the key to understanding the human condition’ (The Social Conquest of Earth, 2012, p.1), he was making this point that while ‘understanding the human condition’ is the most ‘precious’ ‘grail’ of science, it is also the most ‘elusive’ ‘grail’ because the subject is the most difficult of all subjects for humans to engage with. It therefore has to be expected that Jeremy’s treatise on the human condition can cause hostile unfair attacks on it.     With that consideration in mind, we strongly recommend that everyone, such as yourself, who has concerns about the scientific validity of Jeremy’s treatise on the human condition, read our FAQ 1.10 as it addresses the full range of criticisms Jeremy’s treatise has attracted from those accustomed to science’s prevailing human-condition-avoiding, mechanistic paradigm—answering as it does, the questions of ‘Why does mechanistic science ignore, even attack, Jeremy Griffith’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition? / Is this pseudo-science? / If this is real science, why isn’t it published in ‘peer-reviewed’ journals? / Does this treatise present new data and is it testable; in fact is it science at all? / Is this treatise inductive or deductive science? / What historical evidence is there for the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation? / How does science confirm the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation? / Does the treatise have ‘explanatory power’?/ Is this a ‘non-falsifiable’, circular argument?’
