This is one of the most amazing things I’ve come across! I wouldn’t even say one of the greatest concepts as it’s more of a joining of philosophies and sciences into a unified understanding that many sages have worked towards. This is a joining of Charles Darwin, Don Miguel Ruiz, and many others. Amazing. 6/5 stars.

Julias

I really blowed out about the interview as Craig says it is really fascinating indeed

Joanne Fernie

This biological breakthrough by Jeremy is revolutionary & yet so simplistic, it’s genius! It’s giving us as homo sapiens the biologically evidence to go against the grain for the betterment of our species. An absolute watch, that may very well set you FREE!

Suzanne G, USA

I’m trying very hard to follow and understand, think I do but I’m high functioning autistic and sometimes it’s hard for me to absorb information but this very interesting to me, thankyou for your time

WTM Admin

Thanks so much for your comment Suzanne, we very much appreciate your interest and perserverence. Essentially we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are humans so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview and his book FREEDOM. The human condition manifests in different ways in all as a result of our own experiences and exposure to the world, but the clash between instinct and intellect is the source of all our insecurity and subsequent anger, egocentricity and alienation, and so explaining it makes all those defensive behaviours redundant. We suggest you read the very brief summary in FAQ 1.3 and then re-watch THE Interview. Also watching the video series that follows THE Interview is great as that series elaborates on what’s been presented — so there’ll be some repetition, but going over the concepts in more detail does help with the understanding and absorption of them.

Thank you Read KRISHNAMURTI He is saying the same thing as you In detail.

WTM Admin

In response to your comment, we wanted to refer you to the words of WTM Kolkata Centre founder Sanjoy Pal, who has spoken of his respect for Krishnamurti and others, and the unique significance of Jeremy Griffith’s work. To quote: “My other sources of inspiration are Gautama Buddha, Charles Darwin, Aldous Huxley, and J. Krishnamurti. I have great respect for their insightful teachings and all of them recognised the conflicted nature of humans, but unfortunately they also could not explain convincingly the root cause of our conflicted [“irrational”] nature and how to solve it or break free. So, no matter how much I learned from these inspirational sources as well as others, the puzzle of all puzzles, the fundamental nature of humans, eluded me—until I stumbled on THE Interview of Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith. Jeremy’s interview was amazing and astonishingly insightful, as all the missing pieces of the great jigsaw puzzle of human nature fell into their proper places, just like connecting all the dots and providing the solution. In a nutshell, all humans are fundamentally good and not bad or evil according to the non-abstract biological explanation of Jeremy Griffith which is based on evidence and scientific first principle.”     Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why, when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless, are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological insight Jeremy presents. We suggest FAQ 1.13 ‘Is this original or new?’ And, in closing, now that we can explain and understand where all our insecure, defensive, irrational behaviours came from, we can bring them to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition! Krishnamurti’s one desire to set humanity ‘unconditionally free’ is realised!

Sharon Strain

Looking forward to sharing your information

Glen Smith

How is this supposed to save the world at this time when the world is divided and everyone is fighting each other

WTM Admin

Hi Glen, it will take some time to break through fixed patterns of thought, as well as the bastions of power in the world, but once this information gets a foothold through enough people developing a deep appreciation and desire to support it, the selfless love and energy that will generated will solve our problems very quickly because instead of being preoccupied with seeking power, all our energies will be freed to truly work together and focus on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering in all the corners of the world. The essential point is that all the dysfunction and destruction in the world, including war, is a reflection of the conflict within us. What is so important about what Jeremy Griffith presents with the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition, is that it actually solves that discord by reconciling instinct and intellect. By explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts (which is that genes can orientate but nerves need to understand) means all our defensive behaviours (our anger, egocentricity and alienation), are now redundant. You might be interested in reading more in FAQ 1.6: ‘Why this solves everything’.

Ellen

Very lovely but certainly not new news to me. Having studied with Native American people I know that these kinds of loving, sharing, completely accepting and inclusive relationships were the way of life hundreds and thousands of years ago here in North America. I love what you’re saying but really wonder how you can convince the majority of people.

WTM Admin

Hi Ellen, thank you for your feedback. The central tenet of Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is that humans have a cooperative, loving instinctive heritage, not a brutish, savage and aggressive one, and that the source of our aggression is a psychosis that has been compounding ever since the instinct and intellect clashed some 2 million years ago. It follows then that the further back in history we go, the less psychologically upset a race of people will be, and so the more nurturing, cooperative and loving they will be – and we can see evidence of this in existing indigenous races of people, such as Native American people, as you have identified. However, it needs to pointed out that even so-called ‘primitive’ races are still members of the extremely upset stage of humanity, H. sapiens sapiens, so they are still psychologically upset angry, egocentric and alienated. To ultimately return to a fully loving, cooperative state, we needed to find the scientific explanation for why we as a species left that cooperative state. Why, when the ideals are to be loving and cooperative, are we so selfish, competitive and destructive? Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview and his definitive book, FREEDOM.     And regarding your concern over how the majority of people will be convinced of this understanding: as with any new scientific breakthrough in history, it takes time for people to absorb and realise this is the universal solution to all the problems we face but once it catches on—through people recognising the importance of it—the infectious enthusiasm and selfless love it liberates will spread like wildfire and this is starting to happen! You can see this growing appreciation and support for the WTM with outstanding commendations from thought leaders and WTM Centres popping up all over the world here on our homepage. Also FAQ 1.40 ‘Aren’t the problems of the world too overwhelming to ever be fixed? / Isn’t it too late to save the world? / How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’ may be most helpful, as well as FAQ 1.13 ‘Is this original or new?’ which explains the unique significance of Jeremy’s work.

nusheen

This was a great interview both from the spiritual and political perspective even though presented by a biologist. What he has come up with is what great yogis or God realised people who have risen again and again mainly in India but from time to time in other parts of the world also have come up with subsequently: We are god in the making. But we don’t know it. Through a spiritual discipline these people became conscious of that and have been helping humanity to understand and realise it. However, we have both a god and a titan within us. That is our higher and lower natures. How far we can progress in this journey depends on how much we can conquer the lower nature. The political message of this comes towards the end of the interview where he explains that socialism aimed at creating more compassion in the society but through force. This is what communist regimes did and what is being done under the name of Wokism in the US which is trying to spread it throughout the world, one can conclude. It is refreshing that this great Australian biologist has been able to explain it all scientifically.

WTM Admin

Hi Nusheen, thank you for your comment and yes it is a great relief to have the human condition explained scientifically! This therefore does present an entirely new framework of knowledge which can take time to fully absorb so we wanted to clarify the important difference between Jeremy Griffith’s treatise and what yogis have come to using “spiritual discipline”. As Jeremy stresses in Part 2 of this Interview, finding the answer to the human condition ultimately depended on being able to explain our biology. There have been thousands of years of different techniques for calming, disciplining, repressing, and even transcending our psychologically upset human condition and deferring to the soundness of our soul or the meaning of life or ‘God’ (which Jeremy explains is negative entropy or integrativeness, see FAQ 5.3), but none of them have brought an end to the upset state of the human condition—it’s still rampant everywhere. The reason is because they don’t solve the human condition. They don’t deal with the source of our species’ corrupted condition and bring relieving understanding to it. This is what Jeremy’s treatise does and why it is heralded as the biological breakthrough that can save the world. We recommend reading FAQ 1.13 and FAQ 6.5 as they explain this critical difference in more detail.     Also, THE Interview, explains our psychological upset state, what you describe as our “titan” or “lower nature”, is not genetic but the result of a psychosis, caused by the clash between our instinct and intellect and, significantly, a psychosis can be healing with understanding. It is this healing understanding that reconciles all the dualities in human life including politics, summarised in FAQ 7.1.

Farin

Perfect

Michael Burton

This is nothing new.so now how are you going to fix it.you are not.you haven’t solved a thing.you can come up with all kinds of theories but that not going to change anything. So we 're right where we started and all you’ve done is a lot of talking that has solved absolutely nothing

WTM Admin

While it takes some time to digest, we suggest that what is unique about Jeremy Griffith’s work is that he has answered the essential question of why, when the universal ideals are to be integrative are we so disintegrative? Our endeavours in philosophy, psychology and biology have failed, until now, to provide a truthful, real, fully accountable, genuinely clarifying explanation. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents here. We suggest FAQ 1.13 and also FAQ 1.6 ‘Why does understanding the human condition solves everything’.

marianne mcginnis

Very enlightening!

Kevin

Sorry folks but the human condition has already been explained & the only remedy has been given to us...that is why Jesus came to die for us all...as John Newton penned years ago...I once was lost but now i’m found..was blind but now i see 1 Timothy 6:20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge

WTM Admin

Thank you for your thoughts Kevin. We certainly respect people’s religious views but, for the readers of this comment, it is important to mention that Jeremy Griffith’s work doesn’t contradict a belief in God or Christianity. It simply brings biological understanding to all those pre-scientific concepts. People may like to explore our FAQs about religion, in particular FAQ 6.2 ‘What is God’ and FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’.

ben mckay

If you remove guilt from the human phsyci it will be gauranteed to destroy itself without question there is no other outcome, history has proven that several times over

WTM Admin

Hi Ben, thanks for your comment. Yes we feel guilty for our destructive behaviour but that is clearly not stopping us destroying the world. Only by confronting and solving the source of our destructive behaviour can we stop it and save the world and that is what this critical new science does. It gets to the root of the problem and solves it! As the distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen said: “What Griffith is presenting is understanding of the source insecurity that the whole human race suffers from for having destroyed our species’ innocent soul. It is a universal self-blame that his understanding at last provides healing insight into. All human behavior is saturated with that universal insecure, depressing state and resulting anger, egocentricity and alienation that has developed from it, but we finally have the compassionate foundation insight needed to dismantle all that ‘upset’/psychosis. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin” (see FAQ 1.34). We also recommend watching The Great Guilt (which follows The Interview) where Jeremy Griffith gives an astonishingly interesting and important description of The Great Burden Of Guilt that has finally been lifted from the human race!

Quite profound

Arlene

It is a relief to hear there could be a better world than the chaos we presently have. But how to get there!!!??

Yolanda Corkhill

Simple, beautiful and a first glimpse of a future where humans can heal and return to living and interacting with our world and all life in it, without destroying it.

WTM Admin

It it is wonderful this explanation is resonating with you Arlene however it does take a little time to fully absorb the significance of finally being able to explain the human condition. What it means is we now have the ability, for the first time, to understand every aspect of human behaviour and our behaviour will change naturally as a result. At last we can understand we have been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because at last we have the first principle-based science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. This is the rapidly transforming practical effect of being able to understand the human condition which Jeremy Griffith’s new presentation The Great Transformation explains. It gives a concise description of how the psychological rehabilitation of humans occurs, and how everyone’s life can immediately be transformed and it is freely available to watch/listen to/read/download on our Transformation Page!

Andrew MacArthur

I got so tired of the waffle I stopped watching. I got the gist pretty quickly and don’t like wasting my time. What you are aiming for is laudable, it needs a summary which I will email separately. My previous comment a while back appears to have been ignored.

WTM Admin

We respect differing opinions Andrew and thank you for your comment. While great care has been taken to present the explanation as quickly and simply as possible, which is done in Part 1 of this Interview, opening up the underlying issue in all human affairs of the human condition does mean that there are several absolutely critical questions to be answered, which make up Parts 2, 3 & 4 of THE Interview. However, FAQ 1.3 presents a very brief summary of the key ‘instinct vs intellect’ concept. Essentially, when we humans developed a conscious mind some 2 million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was that we became psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric – the upset state we refer to as the human condition. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition. As Craig Conway observes in this interview, while this fundamental ‘genes vs nerves’ explanation is extraordinarily simple, it is ‘so far-reaching in its ramifications’ that there is much to explain. When this is taken into account, it can be appreciated that the 1 hour interview is a very, very concise presentation. In terms of your previous comment, there are thousands of comments on this thread but, as we explain on our website to ensure constructive discussion we moderate comments (which may take some hours) and may not publish any we feel are motivated by malice, or that make criticisms already addressed and repudiated, or ask questions already prominently answered on our comprehensive website with its many freely available books, essays and FAQs that can be easily searched electronically.

Great knowledge

James Forsyth

This is so enlightening, thank you Jeremy. In particular, I like how you embrace the metaphors from ancient Greece and biblical times to make seamless sense of this current understanding of the human condition. I do have concern however, as to how this understanding can clear the hurdles of world politics, greed, power and corruption to become the “new” paradigm that our species urgently needs.

WTM Admin

Wonderful to have your feedback James and it is a good question you ask which is answered in our FAQ 1.40 ‘How can you hope to transform the world? – In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’. It is explained there that even those who are most committed to seeking validation through gaining power and wealth, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, biological explanation of the human condition that establishes our worth at the most fundamental level. This FAQ includes an excerpt from WTM founding member John Biggs’s Transformation Affirmation (which you can watch or read here) which illustrates how everyone, even those most committed to a life of pursuing power, fame, fortune and glory, will want to take up the Transformed Way of Living.

Jan West

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this interview, albeit I found some of it hard to understand but all the same....absolutely fascinating !

WTM Admin

That’s great Jan and yes, even though the instinct vs intellect concept is very simple and resonates deeply with us, humans have had to live in such fear and denial of our corrupted condition it is common people find they need to watch the interview a few times to fully understand it all. We also recommend reading and/or watching the companion presentation to this interview titled The Great Guilt. It is an astonishingly revealing presentation by Jeremy Griffith which outlines more comprehensively the definition of our human condition, and why engagement with the subject can be initially hard to grasp (also see FAQ 1.16). And, if you want a good quick summary of the explanation, we recommend FAQ 1.3.

Gene Clark

I find it amazing and awesome knowing about human condition and solution to the problem.

Billy

The question is, can one give up all that they have accomplished, all that they have gained an adventurous lifestyle. Change they thinking that provided them with all they have. Easy to say when you have nothing to lose. Are you will to sale all you have and give to the poor if it would change the human condition?

WTM Admin

We appreciate your question Billy as Jeremy Griffith’s work is not an idealistic plea for everyone to just behave cooperatively, it is a biological defence of realism. When you watch THE Interview it explains how important and meaningful all we have accomplished is with our “adventurous lifestyle”. That is what is so extraordinary about Jeremy’s biological treatise — it logically and accountably defends human selfishness and egocentricity. We can now understand that all our competitive and materialistic behaviour was an unavoidable, indeed necessary and heroic, part of human life. This understanding defends our so-called ‘dark side’; and by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts, it makes redundant our defensive behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation, allowing us to return to a loving state, see FAQ 1.40.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your comment Teresa and it’s wonderful Jeremy Griffith’s work is reasonating so deeply with you! This certainly explains the source of our defensiveness and also what true enlightenment is which is the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. That is the great breakthrough presented here. Using first principle-based biology, Jeremy explains that understanding why the intellect had to defy our cooperative instincts and become psychologically upset resolves our species’ psychosis. Only by understanding our dark side can we free ourselves from the human condition and bring lasting change to ourselves and the world. For the benefit of readers of these comments we wanted to highlight this critical difference between Jeremy’s work and new age enlightenment, see FAQ 6.5.

Marianne

Your understanding needs viral exposure. So those who can take it will go forward.

Ron Oliver

Just like many others most likely I would agree with the approach. My idea that’s developed over 90 years of my life would not I believe uncommon. There are after all about 8 billion of us at the moment. I would hope that we could teach each other to forget about rights and wrongs and do the more practical things such as leaning trial and error systems of survival. I believe there was an ordinary guy that I was told about in my school whose name was Jesus and most likely many others probably did waste time judging others but spent most of his time trying to help others to have a better life. When we make laws we should try not to exclude others by dreaming up anomalies' in law which happens to suit some at the exclusion of others. One example is the misrepresentation of money in exchange for goods and services. I believe the old term was called usury. There is a simple arithmetic that explains this process. I.e. Sum one gets from lending is more than the value of the work carried out. Practical co-ordination is a much better way to survive than being competitive which is a nonsensical excuse for gain at someone else expense. A look at how much debt that most every country owes will give some indication in my opinion what is wrong with our efforts to survive.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your thoughts Ron. Jeremy Griffith’s work explains that all the crises the world faces, including people’s indifference and conflicts, corruption and materialism are merely symptoms of a deeper problem that will not fundamentally change until we end the underlying insecurity that is causing it all, which is exactly what Jeremy’s explanation of the human condition in THE Interview does. Jeremy explains humans’ psychological upset is not a product of a genetic drive to survive but the result of a universal psychosis, caused by the clash between our instinct and intellect. And, significantly, a psychosis is changeable as it can be healed through understanding so the solution is simple and all-powerful, see FAQ 1.6. You might also like to read FAQ 6.4 which explains prophets are rare individuals who have had the great good fortune of being sufficiently nurtured with unconditional love during their upbringing to not have to resign to living in denial of the human condition and can thus think truthfully and effectively about human behaviour. In terms of Christianity and Christ, Jeremy considers the Bible to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from that pre-science view, and he has written about Christ’s life and its phenomenal importance in humanity’s journey in Freedom Essay 39.

Miguel Reymundi

Thank you for your stunning exposition!

I am so very happy to have come across this interview, now if they teach it in school with the parents & supporting the teachings of scientist & biologist the enligthenning of all this discovery & years of research of great minds has to how they found the KEY to change this messed up world. It was all in us from birth, & thank all the scientist has taught us how to use our gifts Morals, values to decife the anger & all that creates for us to feel bad and make us do bad thing that we were taught believe to be… We are not bad we need to rethink & use the keys to reason “our conscience” to have a peaceful life that was meant to be & without our Ancestors the Bonobos which had been proven to be 99% of our genetic make-up descendants which were very loving & caring! This makes more sense finally, now to teach it to our love ones & our Futur generations. Thank you so much with our conscience & common sense we will be at peace!

WTM Admin

Thank you for your feedback, Janine. It’s great that Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition, the KEY insight to “chang[ing] this messed up world” is resonating with you. What is so breathtakingly beautiful and amazing about Jeremy’s fully accountable scientific explanation is that it truly allows us to forgive ourselves for our angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour. We can now understand WHY we are not bad, which is why this understanding is described as ‘redeeming, reconciling and rehabilitating’. As the distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen (who wrote the Introduction to Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM) said: “What Griffith is presenting is understanding of the source insecurity that the whole human race suffers from for having destroyed our species’ innocent soul. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin”.     With regard to bonobos, there is no suggestion here that humans are descended from bonobos, however, what is being suggested is that bonobos have encountered the same conditions and are going through the same process that our distant ancestors did, and therefore provide an extraordinary insight into our distant ancestors. The evidence for this is bonobos’ similarity to those ancestors, as well as similarities in the environment. In chapter 5:5 of FREEDOM, Jeremy Griffith includes an analysis of the hominin fossil record (particularly Ardipithecus) that evidences that on the basis of physique, intelligence, small canines, bipedality the bonobos present a very accurate model of our human ancestors.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your feedback, Teresa. Espero satisfacer los requisitos y participar [I hope to meet the requirements and participate (translated from Spanish)]

WTM Admin

Thank you Mauricio, there are no requirements to be met other than an interest in seeking the solution to what is a world in crisis: polarised ideologies, conflict, corruption, failed states, refugees, rampant levels of anxiety, loneliness and depression, family breakdown, drugs, fraught younger generations, environmental devastation. And it is precisely that insight that Jeremy Griffith presents in THE Interview and fully in his definitive presentation, FREEDOM: The End Of The Human Condition — both of which you can access in many formats for free here.     So please feel free to participate through the following suggestions!! • Subscribe to our free Mailing List where you will receive one email per week, occasional News Flashes, and notifications for our Live Events. • Watch the Main Videos where Jeremy Griffith (& others) talk you through the explanation of the human condition. Absolutely informative and fantastic insight into human behaviour..highly appropriate and timely..encourages self reflection as human beings.

Hi I have heard of this group of primates who I believe are closely related to Chimpanzees. The main difference that is shown, is obvious, is that they are as he said, Maitriarcal, lead by female influences..... So why have they developed that way while the Chimps are male dominated and more violent and compitative?!? 🤔 I think the real point being ignored here is that it’s the female influence that has been systematically destroyed and undermined and demonised and the total male domination that has made this World so ugly.

WTM Admin

Hi Tracey, the key point to make here is that with Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the human condition we can at last understand and reconcile the immense gulf that has existed between men and women. We can also understand why men especially, but also women, suffer from the human condition and all its related behaviours including selfishness, anger and egocentricity, but that all humans are equally good, worthwhile, meaningful and wonderful regardless of gender, age, religion, etc. See biologist Dr Anna Fitzgerald’s video commendation about how this explanation enables the real liberation of women and also FAQ 8.1 ‘How does this reconcile the sexes’.     To read about what bonobos tell us about our own evolutionary heritage, and how, thanks to their ideal nursery conditions south of the Congo River in Africa (an environment that provides uninterrupted access to food, shelter and territory), they are nurturing, peaceful and matriarchal, in marked contrast to the male-dominated, often violent, common chimpanzees, please see Freedom Essays 21 and 22.

This is all BS.

Marianne

Every prisoner should get book. They are hungry for truth. Tired of corruption.

WTM Admin

Hi Marianne, and in fact every person on the planet should get FREEDOM, which is available for free here, along with Jeremy Griffith’s other key books. The selfishness, alienation and corruption in the world is so immense. However, if we can explain and address the source of the problem — the “truth” we are all so “hungry” for — we can solve it, and that is exactly what we suggest Jeremy has done. What is so extraordinary about this breakthrough is we can now understand the fundamental reason why people want more than they need; we can now understand the source of greed and corruption and the need for material sustenance and power at all costs. When the conscious mind went in search of knowledge a conflict between our instinct and intellect broke out, leading to an undeserved sense of guilt and insecurity that caused us to become psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric, the upset state we refer to as the human condition — a state we sought to alleviate through a competitive, selfish and aggressive bid for the reinforcement we could gain from winning power, fame, fortune and glory. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict and the guilt it produced, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition.

I am so interested in Jeremy Griffiths hypothesis on the human condition and look forward to reading more of what he has to say.

re : 23mins

JG says that all the world criticised Adam and Eve for their disobiediance. This is not true because Jews have interepreted the story as he does :as a birth of consciousness and not a ‘fall’

WTM Admin

Hi Paul, Jeremy Griffith stresses throughout his work that religion has contained all manner of truth about the human condition, albeit without the benefit of science; to this end, the Kabbalah recognises that Adam and Eve were not sinful, but trying to fulfil a great purpose in eating from the tree of knowledge, while the gnostic tradition in Christianity has a similar emphasis on the importance of the search for knowledge. Most versions of the Bible do, however, stress that Adam and Eve were ‘disobedient’ or ‘bad’ to take the ‘apple’ of knowledge. For example, as Jeremy explains in Part 2 of THE Interview: “the Biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden that Moses wrote so long ago in about 1,500 BC actually perfectly describes the psychologically upsetting battle that emerged between our instincts and conscious intellect. It says Adam and Eve/we humans took the ‘fruit’ (Genesis 3:3) ‘from the tree of knowledge’ (Gen. 2:9, 17) and were ‘disobedient’ (the term widely used in descriptions of Gen. 3). In other words, we developed a conscious mind and free will. But in that pre-scientific story it says Adam and Eve then became ‘evil’ (Gen. 3:22) perpetrators of ‘sin’ (Gen. 4:7) because they became angry, egocentric and alienated, and as a result Moses said they were ‘banished…from the Garden of Eden’ (Gen. 3:23) state of cooperative and loving innocence.” With the benefit of science, thankfully we can now explain that they, we humans, weren’t bad at all; in fact, we are the heroes of the story of life on Earth! You might be interested in the WTM’s FAQs about religion that explain that religion deserves praise for being a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from a pre-scientific view.

paul sharp

This means that while Adam and Eve gained consciousness by eating from the Tree of Knowledge they also became “angry, egocentric and alienated.” Sums up the human condition well

In Video 12 J,Griffith says, “...why do we thinking, reasoning, rational, immensely clever, suppossedly sensible beings behave so badly and cause so much suffering ...” J.Krishnamurti has answered this question. It is because people are NOT rational, but IRRATIONAL .In a dialogue with David Bohm, he goes on to say the begining of rationality is when we realise that we are irrational. (“The Ending of Time”, Krishnamurti /D.Bohm) . Krishnamurti would not ask us to accept his statement that we are irrational, but to observe ourselves and find out.

WTM Admin

In response to your comment, we wanted to start with the words of WTM Kolkata Centre founder Sanjoy Pal, when speaking about his respect for Krishnamurti and others, and the great significance of Jeremy Griffith’s work. In a nutshell, all humans are fundamentally good and not bad or evil according to the non-abstract biological explanation of Jeremy Griffith which is based on evidence and scientific first principle.”     Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why, when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless, are we so angry, competitive and selfish; as the great psychiatrist R.D. Laing said, "We are mad, but have no insight [into the fact of our madness]'.
