That’s marvellous you have started reading Jeremy Griffith’s book FREEDOM as it is his definitive presentation of the biological explanation of the human condition needed for the complete understanding of human behaviour and the ultimate amelioration of all the underlying psychosis in human life. Thank you so much Fatima. For those that are new to biologist Jeremy Griffith’s work, we do want to make clear that despite Fatima’s use of religious terminology, what is presented by Jeremy is in no way religious. It is a fully accountable, rational, scientific explanation of the human condition. However, it does present the fulfilment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves (see FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’), and as a result, people of faith naturally use their faith based imagery and terminology to express their excitement.

We respect your caution Travis, however we suggest that as you begin to understand this rational account of the human journey you will see that we can now understand that while the corrupting search for liberating knowledge was underway religion played a significant role as both the custodian of the ideal state and as a means of solace for those exhausted by the corrupting journey. However, it follows that with the redeeming biological understanding of why we had to depart from our original innocence now found, those metaphysical, faith-based accounts that looked after us are now redundant. In fact, what people discover is Jeremy Griffith’s work actually reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. In doing so it actually presents the fulfilment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves, see FAQ 6.3 ‘Does this undermine religion/God’.

We suggest that as you keep absorbing THE Interview, and the material on our website, you will appreciate the huge distinction between Jeremy Griffith’s and being ‘pseudo idealistic’, which is what Eckhart Tolle’s work promotes. Understanding the human condition is the great unlocking point in the human journey of conscious thought and enquiry and its resolution leads, at last, to the real basis for personal and global transformation. While the New Age movement, and its proponents like Tolle, focus on teaching us to restrain and transcend our anger, alienation and selfish egocentricity, the obvious truth is we needed to resolve it at its source and that is the great breakthrough Jeremy’s work presents and what underpins the Transformed Way of Living. We are thinking beings, we need brain food not brain anaesthetic; we needed answers for our conscious thinking mind, without that all else is ultimately futile. You can read more about this in FAQ 6.5 which explains the difference between the WTM and pseudo-idealistic movements (in addition to Part 4 of THE Interview).

Yes, the human condition is a psychological state, not genetic, but just to be clear, the only way humanity was ever going to “listen to your conscience”, was through first understanding that our competitive, aggressive, destructive, even seemingly ‘evil’ behaviour was an unavoidable, indeed necessary, part of human life. This understanding defends our so-called ‘dark side’ and explains that despite all appearances to the contrary, all humans are ‘good’. And by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts, it makes redundant our defensive behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation, allowing us to reconcile with our “conscience ending suffering and human struggle”!

Yes, as Jeremy Griffith explains in Part 4 of THE Interview, the logical consequence of being able to understand the human condition at last is that we no longer have to be preoccupied with proving our self worth. This is the beyond-words exciting Transformed Way of Living that is now available to everybody!

Yes, the nurturing based ‘love indoctrination’ process that Jeremy Griffith describes in Part 3 of THE Interview explains how our distant ancestors became orientated to the integrative ideals of life; how we became to be in the ‘image of God’ to use religious terminology. Most importantly though, we can also understand that the ‘fall’ was a tragic but inevitable consequence of becoming conscious. In the pre-scientific story of Adam and Eve, they were portrayed as ‘bad’ or even ‘evil’ to take the fruit of knowledge, and treated as ‘sinful’. However, what science can now add to that pre-scientific description of the human condition is that our instincts in effect criticised the emerging conscious mind’s search for knowledge, and importantly, we can now understand that the conscious mind was right, or ‘good’ to defy our instinctive self in order to fulfil its great potential to manage life.

Yes, the issue of the human condition has been so condemning of us humans, that until we could safely explain, we had to deny the whole issue even existed – we had to “keep it secret” from ourselves! As Jeremy Griffith explains in Part 2 of THE Interview, “it wasn’t until science revealed the difference between the gene-based and nerve-based learning systems—which is that genes can orientate but nerves need to understand—that we were finally in a position to explain the good reason for our angry, egocentric and alienated human condition.”

    We suggest that it is in fact possible to objectively understand the human condition, and that what is more, you can know that Jeremy Griffith has at last got to the bottom of it and found the redeeming explanation of it, because as he explains in paragraph 73 of FREEDOM, the ultimate test of any hypothesis is how accountable it is of our own lives – as the greatest of all physicists, Albert Einstein, once said that ‘truth is what stands the test of experience’. And so you can know that this is the breakthrough explanation of the human condition because once you understand the explanation and begin to apply it, you will discover it is so able to make sense of human behaviour it makes it transparent. This transparency of ourselves and our world—for example, the exposure of all our falseness—that this understanding of the human condition brings, is the ultimate ‘test of experience’ that confirms that the understanding being presented here is the long-sought explanation of the human condition. In this particular scientific study—the biological analysis of the human condition—we humans are the subjects, which means we can experience, feel and know the truthfulness or otherwise of the explanations being put forward. And so, fantastic a claim as it may seem, you will find that what is being presented here is the long-sought-after, desperately needed, psychosis-addressing-and-resolving, human race-transforming explanation of the human condition.     And as is explained in FAQ 1.10: “Throughout FREEDOM it is demonstrated how the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation demystifies not just the human condition, but all aspects of human behaviour. It quickly becomes clear that not only are the facts and logic underlying the ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation established and unarguable, the theory also has an extraordinary ‘explanatory power’, which is one of the essential qualities of a scientific theory.”

As THE Interview explains, humans are born with loving moral instincts but we all now variously suffer from a psychosis due to the human condition and, in the extreme, that psychologically conflicted upset state produces extremely destructive behaviour, or what has historically been called ‘evil’.     As Jeremy Griffith points out in Part 2 of THE Interview the issue of the human condition has been such a denied and off-limits subject that confronting it represents the “biggest of all blasphemies”, and how “science progresses funeral by funeral” when it comes to supporting big paradigm shifts like this. So it is up to the resolve of individuals, including scientists, to help the WTM break through the road block of the legitimate fear and resulting deaf effect the subject of the human condition causes in most people.     Having said that, as Jeremy explains in chapter 9.9 of his book FREEDOM: “Although this new world for humans, which the World Transformation Movement has been established to facilitate, will, as has been stated, have a slow beginning because humans initially find it difficult even taking in or ‘hearing’ discussion about the human condition, once the WTM is discovered, word of it and what it offers every human and the world will spread like wildfire.’” And so even though we haven’t yet reached the tipping point in terms of awareness of this great breakthrough, you can see from the excitement and relief in our ecstatic responses to THE Interview, we are well on our way! Jaynes’s theory, which states that humans are a mentally unbalanced species due to an inadequate coordination between our emotional old brain and our cognitive new brain is addressed in Video/Freedom Essay 4. It discusses that while many have identified the elements of instinct and intellect involved in creating the human condition, the biological breakthrough Jeremy Griffith’s treatise provides is the clarifying explanation of the nature of the conflict between them and explains without that explanation the conflict could not be resolved.

While it takes some time to digest, we suggest that what is unique about Jeremy Griffith’s work is that he has answered the essential question of why, when the universal ideals are to be integrative are we so disintegrative? Our endeavours in philosophy, psychology and biology have failed, until now, to provide a truthful, real, fully accountable, genuinely clarifying explanation. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents here. Most wonderfully Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of our human condition actually biologically establishes our goodness or ‘divinity’ as a species so it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough! As Jeremy in Part 4 of THE Interview “What this instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition fundamentally does is lift the ‘burden of guilt’ from the human race. It establishes that we humans are good and not bad after all.” We can now understand that while we are all inevitably variously psychologically upset from humanity’s heroic battle to find knowledge, ultimately self-knowledge, we can now know that every human is fundamentally good. The only way we could legitimately return to our original cooperative and loving state was to be able to answer the essential question of why, when the ideals are to be loving and selfless, are we so competitive and selfish? This is what Jeremy’s treatise does and why it is heralded as being able to save the world. As psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen, a former president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, has said: “I have no doubt this biological explanation of the human condition is the holy grail of insight we have sought for the psychological rehabilitation of the human race.”

Yes Huinga, levels of mental distress have reached frightening levels, and it is heartbreaking what it is doing to younger generations. The graph that appears towards the end of Part 2 of THE Interview discusses this and charts the progression of psychological upset from no psychosis to ‘terminal levels of psychosis’ and obviously all grades in between. Ultimately the only thing that could stop the ever increasing levels of upset and bring lasting relief to all humans was the rational, biological explanation of our conflicted human condition, which is what Jeremy Griffith has presented in this interview. You may be interested in FAQ 1.34, which is directed to the question ‘How does understanding the human race’s condition help with an individual’s depression and psychosis?’ and is written by Professor Harry Prosen, the former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association. Part of what Professor Prosen writes is that, “the beauty of Griffith’s treatise is that the healing starts at the macro level of the universal human condition; the healing of the shame and blame that the whole human race has suffered from, which is non-personal and thus more easily confronted, absorbed and accepted. Yes Wovenu, finally having the scientific explanation of our human condition brings absolute relief and hope for a very bright future! Given your interest in bonobos, chapter 5 of Jeremy Griffith’s book FREEDOM further evidences, what is explained in Part 3 of THE Interview, about how cooperative and loving bonobos are and how bonobos demonstrate the nurturing based love-indoctrination process that created our cooperative instincts. We certainly respect people’s religious views Rawlston and religions contain all manner of truths about human life, however it is all from a pre-scientific view. Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Absolutely Demetres, this “essential message for all of mankind” heals our split selves! To quote THE Interview from the beginning of Part 4: "That is the key relief for our mind—being finally able to understand that we are good and not bad is what brings us the greatest psychological relief of all. The psychoanalyst Carl Jung said, ‘wholeness for humans depends on the ability to own our own shadow’, and since we can now ‘own’ the ‘shadow’ of our species’ 2-million-year-corrupted condition, the human race is finally in a position to become ‘whole’. The word ‘psychosis’ literally means ‘soul-illness’ and ‘psychiatry’ literally means ‘soul-healing’ (derived as they are from psyche meaning ‘soul’, osis meaning ‘abnormal state or condition’ and iatreia meaning ‘healing’—see pars 63 & 72 of FREEDOM), but we have never been able to ‘heal our soul’, explain to our original instinctive self or soul that we, our fully conscious thinking self, is good and not bad and by so doing reconcile and heal our split selves—but now at last we can."

We suggest that as you digest this understanding you will see that everyone, no matter how greedy and egocentric and power-hungry, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete their strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, real biological explanation of the human condition that proves our worth at the most fundamental level. In Part 1 of THE Interview Jeremy Griffith explains all humans are born with an instinctive self or soul that is perfectly aligned to a cooperative and selfless way of living and that humans’ upset (angry, egocentric and alienated) behaviour is not a product of savage animal instincts within us, but the result of a universal psychosis caused by the unavoidable clash between our instinct and intellect. With this compassionate understanding of the human condition we can now appreciate that humanity’s necessary preoccupation with finding knowledge compromised our ability to nurture our children to the extent their instincts expect, but now that that preoccupation ends we can safely acknowledge the absolute importance of nurturing in our species’ development (see also Freedom Essay 21) and in the individual development of children (see chapter 8:16C of Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM). Also, to quote chapter 6:13 of FREEDOM titled, Nurturing now becomes a priority: “now that we have found that very good reason why parents have been unable to nurture their children with anything like the unconditional love children instinctively expect and need, it is no longer necessary to deny the importance of nurturing both in the maturation of our species and in our own lives. Yes, with the arrival of understanding the terrible guilt that parents have felt for not being able to adequately nurture their offspring departs. Parents can now understand that their inability to adequately love their offspring is not their fault, but the product of the ever-accumulating levels of upset in the human race as a whole that resulted from our species’ heroic 2-million-year search for knowledge, specifically for self-knowledge, understanding of why we conscious humans are good and not bad. So yes, we can finally now admit the importance of nurturing and turn our attention back to the nurturing of our offspring—in fact, it now becomes a matter of great urgency that we do both these things.”

Thanks Teresa. We would suggest that what is necessary to have “love” that enables us to ‘understand each other’, is this biological understanding which first of all brings love to our ‘dark side’ and explains that despite all appearances to the contrary, all humans are ‘good’. And by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts, it makes redundant our defensive behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation, allowing us to return to that loving, empathetic state we all intuitively want.

To clarify: Jeremy Griffith presents first principle-based, rational, testable, biological understanding of the human condition which has attracted the support of eminent scientists and thinkers (see here). There is no dogma, faith or belief involved. FAQ 6.1 explains why this information, and the movement which supports it, is the antithesis of a religion.

This is important that needs cohesive actions to be spearheaded by the government that has an access or jurisdiction to their respective populace. Kudos! to you, Prof. Griffith; you are an enlightened one.

The real issue here is the difference between a more literal fundamentalist interpretation of scripture and our more biological, science-based interpretation. If you prefer the more literal interpretation then we respect your right to do that, as we hope you’ll respect our right to a science-based interpretation. You will find answers and suggestions to cover most of your questions.     We aren’t sure what you mean by ‘dogmatic’. The ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation is completely rational and accountable. There is no faith or belief required, so no-one’s support should ever be ‘dogmatic’. In fact, the more you understand the human condition, the more empathetic and compassionate you will become of the positions and philosophies that people have had to adopt to deal with the human condition in themselves.     You will find all Jeremy’s writing, including all his books and essays, freely available on the website - our homepage is the best jump-off point.

At last with Jeremy Griffith’s instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition we can understand WHY we are so destructive, greedy and oppressive. Which means we can now explain that the more innocent or sheltered ‘races’ (ethnic groups), like the Australian Aborigines, have not been as exposed to humanity’s heroic battle to find knowledge as less sheltered races, and so they aren’t as psychologically upset as those less sheltered races. So yes, more sheltered races have more affinity with our instinctive soulful, cooperative way of living and nature and are therefore not as “brutal and competitive” as more upset races. However, all humans are now part of the extremely upset stage of humanity, H. sapiens sapiens, and are therefore nowhere near as innocent as humans were some 2 million years ago when the battle of the human condition first emerged. Also, most significantly, despite the differing levels of upset due to everyone’s different encounters with humanity’s heroic battle to find knowledge, we are all equally good.     Certainly there is habituation to overcome and humans do find change difficult but at last we can understand our behaviour has been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. So instead of being focused on power, fame, fortune and glory, all our energies will be freed to truly work together on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering and save our world. FAQ 1.40 addresses the questions of ‘How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’. It is explained there that even those who are most committed to seeking validation through gaining power and wealth, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, biological explanation of the human condition that establishes our worth at the most fundamental level.     And so even though we haven’t yet reached the tipping point in terms of awareness of this great breakthrough, you can see from the excitement and relief in our ecstatic responses to THE Interview, we are well on our way!     This new science presents an entirely new way of thinking so there is a lot to digest. What THE Interview presents fundamentally lifts the ‘burden of guilt’ from the human race. It establishes that we humans are good and not bad after all. With this understanding we can finally end our psychologically troubled human condition — it couldn’t be a bigger breakthrough.     You might be interested in FAQ 1.41 ‘What are instincts and what is consciousness, and how do they differ?’ which includes the following explanation of how the nerve based learning system works: “In the case of consciousness, there is one aspect of nerves’ ability to control how animals react to their environment that has the potential to give rise to consciousness—and this is an aspect that is largely independent of any instinctive orientations of an animal’s nervous system that have developed through natural selection. This aspect of the nervous system that gave rise to the potential to develop a conscious understanding of cause and effect is nerves’ ability to store impressions—what we refer to as ‘memory’. An electric current passed through a nerve leaves an imprint of its passage in the nerve after the current has passed. This imprint represents a memory of that piece of information that passed through the nerve. This ability to remember past events makes it possible to compare them with current events and identify regularly occurring experiences. This knowledge of, or insight into, what has commonly occurred in the past makes it possible to predict what is likely to happen in the future and to adjust your behaviour accordingly. Once insights into the nature of change are put into effect, the self-modified behaviour starts to provide feedback, refining the insights further. Predictions are compared with outcomes and so on. Much developed, and such refinement occurred in the human brain, nerves can sufficiently associate information to reason how experiences are related, learn to understand and become CONSCIOUS of, or aware of, or intelligent about, the relationship between events that occur through time. Thus consciousness means being sufficiently aware of how experiences are related to attempt to manage change from a basis of understanding.”

    The human condition permeates everything we do. As you absorb this redeeming understanding, it becomes possible to acknowledge that we all carry a burden of guilt over having destroyed our all-loving instinctive self or soul, and every minute of every day is devoted to escaping that through attacking it, proving it wrong and blocking it out.
