Hi Nyema, we often receive questions like yours as the greed and pursuit of power in the world does seem insurmountable, but that is the beauty and significance of Jeremy Griffith’s treatise: we can now understand the battle between our intellect and our cooperative instincts caused us to become psychologically angry, alienated and egocentric, the upset state we refer to as the human condition. And now that we can understand this conflict all those insecure behaviours, such as greed, are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from that state and can legitimately return to a cooperative way of living. Hi Marion, as you can read in our response to Redenthor below, Jeremy Griffith’s work doesn’t deny the profundity of the Bible or the messages of Christ and Christianity, but brings much-needed clarity and biological explanation to all of the pre-scientific mythologies about human behaviour that the Bible sought to explain. Throughout his work, Jeremy shares his deep respect for the Bible as he believes it to be a compilation of all the extremely rare denial-free truth about human life that had been composed up to that time in the history of humanity’s documentation. And you may be interested to also appreciate that while this explanation is scientifically-grounded, it is based on the recognition of our species' ‘Godly’ nature in that he recognises, as all the great religions do, that humans did originally live in a pre-human-condition-afflicted state of innocence where we were instinctively orientated to the cooperative, selfless, loving, ‘Godly’ ideals of life.     Hi Ellis, Jeremy Griffith stresses in THE Interview the crucial role nurturing has played in the development of our species and continues to play in our individual upbringing today. He explains that our species once lived cooperatively and lovingly and that we acquired our moral instincts through nurturing—a process he terms ‘love-indoctrination’. However we did want to clarify even though other animals display various levels of cooperation they are driven by gene-based natural selection and the essential fact or rule of natural selection is that genes are unavoidably selfish so they survive, so there is a fundamental limit to the amount of nurturing or loving behaviour they can develop. So how we acquired our moral instincts has been one of the greatest mysteries in biology. As mentioned in THE Interview, the primatologist Richard Wrangham described this dilemma as ‘A question that has lain unsolved at the core of biology ever since Darwin’ and Darwin himself described it as the ‘one special difficulty’ with his concept of natural selection. The brilliance of Jeremy’s treatise is he solves this mystery by explaining how humans biologically overcame this genetic limitation through what he identifies as the ‘love-indoctrination’ process, which produced our all-loving, nurturing instincts—in fact Jeremy explains it was women’s maternal love that gave us our moral soul and created humanity! This is presented in Part 3 of THE Interview using the example of the extraordinarily cooperative and maternal bonobos, who have developed this ‘love-indoctrination’ process to a lesser degree (see FAQ 5.2 ‘How did we acquire our moral soul’). As mentioned in Part 1 Jeremy Griffith explains all humans are born with an instinctive self or soul that is perfectly aligned to a cooperative and selfless way of living and that humans’ upset (angry, egocentric and alienated) behaviour is not a product of savage animal instincts within us, but the result of a universal psychosis caused by the unavoidable clash between our instinct and intellect. With this compassionate understanding of the human condition we can now appreciate that humanity’s necessary preoccupation with finding knowledge compromised our ability to nurture our children to the extent their instincts expect, but now that that preoccupation ends we can safely acknowledge the absolute importance of nurturing in our species’ development and in the individual development of children (see FREEDOM chapter 8:16C titled ‘The dire consequences of terminal levels of alienation destroying our ability to nurture our children’). Also, to quote FREEDOM chapter 6:13 titled ‘Nurturing now becomes a priority’: “...now that we have found that very good reason why parents have been unable to nurture their children with anything like the unconditional love children instinctively expect and need, it is no longer necessary to deny the importance of nurturing both in the maturation of our species and in our own lives. Yes, with the arrival of understanding the terrible guilt that parents have felt for not being able to adequately nurture their offspring departs. Parents can now understand that their inability to adequately love their offspring is not their fault, but the product of the ever-accumulating levels of upset in the human race as a whole that resulted from our species’ heroic 2-million-year search for knowledge, specifically for self-knowledge, understanding of why we conscious humans are good and not bad. So yes, we can finally now admit the importance of nurturing and turn our attention back to the nurturing of our offspring—in fact, it now becomes a matter of great urgency that we do both these things.”

Yes Cheryl generation after generation has heroically suffered under the duress of the human condition. As Jeremy Griffith explains in THE Interview the reason humans are so heroic is because our “bad/ evil/ barbaric” behaviour was an unavoidable result of the development of our uniquely conscious mind which led to the human condition. He explains the whole human journey, showing that humans lived in a cooperative state for at least 5 million years before the emergence of the human condition some 2 million years ago. We had to suffer becoming upset and alienated from our “good/ caring” soul in order to find understanding of ourselves. The horror of our human-condition-afflicted lives is unthinkable and yet we’ve bravely continued on our journey to find understanding. Now with this compassionate understanding, we can know we are fundamentally good despite our psychological upset and we can reconcile with our cooperative and loving instincts and the natural world, our destructive behaviour can come to an end and we can begin the much-needed repair of ourselves and our planet. The price of freedom was that humans be prepared to expend themselves in the battle, generation after generation, for two million years. To quote Jeremy from Part 1 of THE Interview "So our selfish, competitive and aggressive behaviour is not due to savage instincts but to a psychologically upset state or condition. Basically suffering psychological upset was the price we conscious humans had to pay for our heroic search for understanding. In the words from the song The Impossible Dream from the musical the Man of La Mancha, we had to be prepared to ‘march into hell for a heavenly cause’ (lyrics by Joe Darion, 1965). Astonishingly Kym with Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the human condition we can at last understand and reconcile the huge gulf that has existed between men and women. We can also understand why men, but also women, suffer from the human condition and all its insecure related behaviours including selfishness and egocentricity, but that all humans are equally good, worthwhile, meaningful and wonderful regardless of gender, age, religion, etc. It is true that women have been horribly oppressed by men and are now understandably very angry and resentful towards them, but now we can answer the outstanding question of WHY did men oppress women which enables the rift between the sexes to heal at a fundamental level.     Well you have come to the right website to start your research Beverly and watching THE Interview provides the ideal introduction to this critical new science!! Our reply to Debra directly below explains why what Jeremy Griffith presents here finally gives us means to bring healing understanding to all humans.     We commend you for your vision to help young people as they so desperately need it. Jeremy explains towards the end of Part 2 of THE Interview the ever-increasing levels of upset in humans, especially of psychosis and alienation, have been increasing so rapidly lately that the line tracking their rise is near vertical with the amount of upset virtually doubling now in each new generation!! In Jeremy’s main book FREEDOM he explains how the innocence of young people is absolutely devastated by the psychologically upset world of adults. However he stresses, it’s not what has happened to us in our lives so much as our inability to understand why it was happening that has been the problem. It’s been the terrible silence about the horror of the human condition that our young people have had to endure that is so devastating, and what leads them to having to resign in their adolescence to a necessary strategy of denial which Jeremy describes as the most significant psychological event in human life. This is explained in his Freedom Essay 30 titled ‘Resignation’, the unacknowledged yet most important psychological event in human life so we are sure you will find that most revealing.     What heals the world is the honesty that is now available — real therapy comes through understanding. We can now talk to young people about the unavoidable journey of the human condition and how corrupted we’ve become, and that honesty is what will heal their troubled minds. As Jeremy describes in THE Interview we have had to live in denial of the human condition, hide in Plato’s dark cave where no exposing light could reach us. But now that we have redeeming understanding that denial is no longer necessary as the human condition can be safely confronted which leads to the repair of the whole human race. As the highly respected psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, wrote: “the beauty of Griffith’s treatise is that the healing starts at the macro level of the universal human condition; the healing of the shame and blame that the whole human race has suffered from…It brings the greater context and love to all human psychosis and suffering, and then, from under the umbrella of that safe position, everyone can gradually work inwards to their particular experience of all the imperfections in human life that have now, finally, been made sense of.” (see FAQ 1.34).

And it is so healing because as Jeremy Griffith explains our selfish and destructive behaviour isn’t due to us having savage animal instincts, rather it is psychological in origin, the result of a clash between our emerging conscious mind,and our pre-established loving instincts. What Jeremy explains in this interview is that all humans are born with all-loving moral instincts (not savage animal instincts) but now suffer from a psychosis due to the human condition caused by the conscious mind’s necessary search for knowledge. So now with this explanation we can see that everyone has suffered from the human condition, and all our institutions, including our governments and media, have been a manifestation of our insecure, psychologically upset condition. Only solving the human condition, addressing the source of our psychological upset, could we achieve real and lasting change and stop the corruption in society and destruction of our world. That’s what Jeremy Griffith has done and is “right on point” about! This is further explained in FAQ 1.40 ‘How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’. It explains “Even those who were most committed to defensively seeking validation through gaining power and material goods, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, real biological explanation of the human condition that proves our worth at the most fundamental level.”     With regard to religious doctrine, with the human condition explained we can understand the more upset people became, the more they needed to try to obey the ‘Godly’ ideals of life that religions taught, but the problem was such condemnation of upset behaviour could be extremely terrorising and oppressive. Obviously what was desperately missing was reconciling understanding of our upset behaviour and the Godly ideals; reconciling understanding of the human condition in fact—which is exactly what Jeremy presents us with. So no longer does anybody have to be terrorised by religious dogma. They can understand what such religious doctrine was providing (even though it could be hurtful) and the great role religions played in humanity’s journey (see FAQ 6.3 about understanding religion).

Hi Roger, while great care has been taken to present the information as quickly and simply as possible (which is done in Part 1 of THE Interview) explanation of the human condition can be initially difficult to access. This is because it has been the most terrifying of subjects to face as it is the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad as a species, and we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it. We suggest looking at The Great Guilt where Jeremy Griffith explains this initial ‘deaf effect’ and how to overcome it. Hi Min. Your question about “Young world vs old world” refers to the religious debate about whether the Earth is only a few thousand years old as per the book of Genesis. Basically, the instinct vs intellect explanation of the human condition is completely logical and accountable and demystifies many truths that have previously been enshrined in metaphysical descriptions, such as the literal interpretation of the age of the Earth. Faith has looked after us while we looked for understanding of our condition, but now we have the scientific explanation of the human condition, we can let go of mystical interpretations of ourselves and the world. Importantly though, the more you digest the explanation, the more you will see that it does not rob life or explanations of life of their ‘spiritual’ element. The absolutely astonishing claims being made about biologist Jeremy Griffith’s work certainly warrant initial scepticism, however what Jeremy is presenting is all first principle-based, rational, testable, biological understanding of the human condition which has attracted the support of eminent scientists and thinkers (see our homepage). It’s all about knowledge that either stacks up or it doesn’t — so please go ahead and put it to the test!

    All humans are now part of the extremely upset stage of humanity, H. sapiens sapiens, and are therefore nowhere near as innocent as humans were some 2 million years ago when the battle of the human condition first emerged. And so every person and every country suffers from the human condition, and so we all need this redeeming, healing explanation of the human condition. What biologist Jeremy Griffith explains is that our negative behaviour is not learned or a result of any conditioning but rather a result of a universal psychosis caused by the clash between our cooperative instincts and our intellect and significantly, a psychosis is changeable as it can be healed through understanding! Certainly, being born into a world that is already drenched with anger, egocentricity and alienation has a terrible effect on young people growing up, resulting in even higher levels of psychological upset, so it is a compounding situation, but ultimately we needed to confront and address the source of our ‘negative’ behaviour.
