Humanity’s story is tragic Royal, however, we suggest that as you digest this understanding of the human condition more and more, your overwhelming feeling will not be sadness or regret, but relief and excitement that the liberating understanding has finally been found, and incredible respect, even awe, that humanity had the courage to keep going and complete the journey.

Loyce

I am trying to understand. Kinda hard with 2 toddlers. Thank you

WTM Admin

Take your time Loyce! All the while your mind will be digesting it all, and slowly but surely, we suggest you will realise that this explanation of the human condition means we no longer have to be burdened by the fundamental question of whether we are good or bad because our core goodness as individuals and as a species has been biologically established. We can know our psychological upset was the price all humans had to pay for searching for knowledge and that the human story presents the greatest, most heroic story ever told.

Very enlightening and tremendously informative.

Known human history go’s back about 4500 years, before that is a bit of a mystery, so how you know what’s happened in the last 2000000 years is also a bit of a mystery.

WTM Admin

Paleontology, anthropology and even primatology provide windows into our distance past. For example, you can see an image of a sequence of hominin skulls in Part 4 of THE Interview, which at the very least evidences the emergence of the human condition, and how our species has become neotonised. This fossil sequence is reproduced in chapter 8:2 of Jeremy Griffith’s definitive book FREEDOM, along with the following analysis, "It follows that the development of a larger association cortex meant that a greatly increased need for understanding had emerged, which we are now able to explain would have resulted from the emergence of the dilemma of the human condition, where only self-understanding could bring an end to all the psychological upset that condition has produced and which has been so crippling of our species’ development and that of our own lives. The inference we can take from this evidence is that the human condition became a full-blown problem some 2 million years ago with the emergence of Homo."     Along with evidence of the emergence of the human condition, FREEDOM providess extensive evidence that we emerged from a loving, sensitive past, not a savage, ‘red in tooth and claw’ past as is commonly held. For example, there is: analysis of the fossil record in chapter 5:5; evidence from primatology in chapter 5:6, including similarities between our ancestors Ardipithecus and bonobos; analysis of the relatively innocence of so-called primitive peoples, such as the San Bushmen and the Australian Aborigines, as well as evidence from mythology of a ‘golden age’ of innocence (for example, in chapter 2:7); see also evidence provided by the astonishing sensitivity to paleolithic rock painting (see chapter 8:11C); indeed, all of chapter 8), is a revealing application of the ontogeny (of our individual original loving innocence) recapitulate phylogeny (of our species’ original loving innocence) principle.

I thought, knew something is wrong.

James Eastaff

I would like to know if people here think there is a link between this and the work of graham hancock ?

WTM Admin

James, you might be interested in our FAQ 1.48, in which Jeremy explains that, "Basically, I agree with Hancock’s description of us being ‘a species with amnesia’, but from a much more profound basis than us having forgotten earlier civilisations and technologies as Hancock focuses on—that more profound dimension being that we humans have been living in determined denial of our species’ original state of cooperative, selfless and loving innocence (the biological origins of which is explained in chapter 5 of FREEDOM, and in Freedom Essay 21)."

Kerrie

I like what he saying and it is hopeful. Society has also been extremely traumatized and socially engineered towards trauma. Therefore, those that are engaged in helping professions are often at odds with the “programmers” who benefit from its downfall and constant pain. I do wonder where this might start - from the top?

WTM Admin

Yes, trauma has reached terminal levels now, and social media and news-cycles do exacerbate it, but it is important to realise that we all suffer from the human condition. Which means that healing it ‘starts’ with everyone. As the distinguished psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen (who wrote the Introduction to Jeremy’s definitive book FREEDOM) said: “What Griffith is presenting is understanding of the source insecurity that the whole human race suffers from for having destroyed our species’ innocent soul. It is a universal self-blame that his understanding at last provides healing insight into. All human behavior is saturated with that universal insecure, depressing state and resulting anger, egocentricity and alienation that has developed from it, but we finally have the compassionate foundation insight needed to dismantle all that ‘upset’/psychosis. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin.”

Francesca Rossetti

Arcane knowledge simply revealed, for us to clear misunderstandings trapped within the human condition, which C.G.Jung & many others clearly understood. Thank you so much.... a lot more yet to surface.

WTM Admin

Hi Francesca, we appreciate your interest and recommend reading FAQ 1.47 “How does Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition differ from the theories of Freud or Jung?”, as it explains how Jeremy’s ‘instinct vs intellect’ explanation of the human condition varies with Jung’s work. But essentially, the only way humans could, as Jung said, ‘own our own shadow’ was to ameliorate the guilt we, our conscious thinking mind, feels for having corrupted our all-loving instinctive self or soul, and that could only be achieved by explaining why we had to endure becoming angry, egocentric and alienated — why our corrupted human condition was actually a heroic and loveable condition rather than a bad, ‘evil’, ‘sinful’ condition. Answering this question of questions, lifting the ‘great burden of guilt’ from the human race, required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents. Which is why Professor Harry Prosen, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, said, ‘I have no doubt this biological explanation of the human condition is the holy grail of insight we have sought for the psychological rehabilitation of the human race.’

Jennifer

Wow! Thank you Jeremy, your amazing insight makes perfect sense of the world from beginning to end!

Ang

How can you say this with the proof all around us with ww3 almost here....that we are good??

WTM Admin

It’s a reasonable question to ask Ang; in fact, what you have articulated is the great, agonising question of the human condition. As Jeremy Griffith writes in chapter 1:2 of his definitive book FREEDOM, “why are humans competitive, aggressive and selfish? Indeed, so ruthlessly competitive, selfish and brutal that life has become all but unbearable and we have nearly destroyed our own planet? Does our inconsistency with the ideals mean we are essentially bad, a flawed species, an evolutionary mistake, a blight on Earth, a cancer in the universe…?”     But as you study Jeremy’s biological treatise, what is so extraorinary is that you will realise that this terrible, dark side of humanity has actually been defended. It can be difficult to accept at first, but the more you study what is presented, because it is rational, accountable, based-in-first-principle biology, the more you will realise that it is actually true. We now have the first-principle biological explanation of our fundamental goodness. While genes can orientate a species, the conscious mind is insightful, and so needs to understand in order to fulfil its great potential to manage life. Tragically, this meant that when the concious mind went in search of knowlege, our pre-established instincts in-effect criticised the concious mind’s experiments in self-management, which led to the conscious mind becoming angry, egocentric and alienated. We can now understand that becoming pscyhologically upset was the price we had to pay for searching for knowledge, and that the human story presents the greatest, most ‘beautiful’ and heroic story ever told. Of course this breakthrough explanation doesn’t condone or sanction the horrendous atrocities humans can commit rather, through bringing compassionate understanding to the source of humans’ upset behaviour, it gives us the power to ameliorate and thus subside and ultimately eliminate it.

Peter Fitzgibbon

All good, talking about conscious mind, what the sub-conscious mind that can be programmed, hypnosis. Jeremey states instinct? I feel this would be a good topic of debate! Good on you for presenting this discussion and may it prosper and help the human race, all the best.

Norma

Very true words

Jon-Paul Tallentire

Wow that’s so true I can relate so much to this explanation and how the programming I think can give us the basics to go out into the world and find it ourselves, its a struggle and dangerous but if you do come out of the desert with your faculties intact you can get there one step at a time, its a journey into truth through faith, love, betrayal, and eventually knowledge. Wow this makes so much sense.

WTM Admin

Thanks Jon-Paul, yes finally being able to understand the battle between our instinct and intellect is incredibly exciting and empowering but it should never be “dangerous”. The core breakthrough of Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is that we no longer have to be burdened by the fundamental question of whether we are good or bad because our core goodness as individuals and as a species has been biologically established. We can now know that our psychological upset was the price humans had to pay for searching for knowledge and that the human story presents the greatest, most heroic story ever told. That is the overarching comforting truth that loves and unites all humans now and we can look after ourselves with great compassion, love and kindness. As discussed in THE Interview, without the defence of our fundamental goodness, the human condition has been an unbearably confronting and off-limits subject so having the human condition explained does expose the truth about our upset condition, but importantly, it doesn’t condemn us, rather it compassionately explain we are ‘good’ and not ‘bad’ for taking on the corrupting search for knowledge. Indeed, the explanation of the human condition is all redeeming, reconciling and rehabilitating! However, we caution against overly confronting the upset within us which is something everyone needs to be mindful of, as our FAQ 1.19 summarises.     Along with re-watching THE Interview, we recommend you look at our Transformation page, which explains the Transformed State, which is the fabulous way we deal with the personal transparency and confronting nature of the human condition. As Jeremy writes in that Essay, “You and every other human can, as it were, put the issue of all your upsets/corruptions in a ‘suitcase’, attach a label to it saying ‘Everything in here is now explained and defended’, and simply leave that suitcase behind at the entrance to what we in the World Transformation Movement (WTM) call the Sunshine Highway, and set out unencumbered by all those upset behaviours into a new world that is effectively free of the human condition.” So the human condition is no longer an unbearably depressing subject as we can now bring great compassion and kindness to ourselves and others and significantly we don’t have to overly confront the upset within us. Also we recommend FAQ 1.39 ‘How are we supposed to cope with all the heretical truths brought to light by the explanation of the human condition?’

Dr A . Singh

Very informative & scientific basis of the talk which is most convincing.

Tony S

At last, a true holistic insight into what makes us humans tick. I’ve been searching for these answers for a good half century – could never understand how we could be so creative on one hand & so destructive on the other. Thank you Jeremy & everyone else involved for your hard work & determination, there IS light at the end of the tunnel. It now feels safer to be honest.

J eubanks US

The assessment of the human condition is accurate. I have always questioned the nature of human behavior. I’ve personally have wanted the true utopian behavior achieved through love with nurtured experiences for all. The world has riddled itself, leaving behind, what should have been from the beginning.

WTM Admin

Yes, we have all subconsciously longed for a utopian world based on love and nurturing, but as we can now understand, it has not been possible while the corrupting journey to find knowledge was yet to be completed. It is ONLY NOW with that we have found the good reason that we had to defy our instincts that all our defensive behaviours (our anger, egocentricity and alienation) are made redundant. Yes, all humans will now be able to return to the non-upset ideal state we’ve longed for, but we will return to it with understanding, in a fully conscious way.

Alfredo Rodriguez

I understand it’s a breakthrough that’s it’s very enlightening and I appreciate being able to listen and watch this thank you

Lynn

Enjoyed listening to this we humans are forever evolving

Gerry Loughrey

Could we have a summary (abstract)?

WTM Admin

Key to Jeremy Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is an understanding of the difference between our instincts and intellect, and the effect that difference has had on our behaviour. He explains that when we humans developed a conscious mind some two million years ago, a battle unavoidably developed between it and our already established instincts. Natural selection of genes gives species’ instinctive orientations, such as to a migratory flight path for birds, but a nerve-based conscious mind needs understanding to operate, so when a fully conscious mind emerges and begins experimenting in understanding it unavoidably comes into conflict with the already established instinctive orientations that are in effect intolerant of these deviating experiments in self-management.     The result of this conflict between our instinct and intellect was an undeserved sense of guilt and insecurity that caused us to become psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric, the upset state we refer to as the human condition—a state we sought to alleviate through a competitive, selfish and aggressive bid for the reinforcement we could gain from winning power, fame, fortune and glory. But now that we can explain and understand this conflict and the guilt it produced, all those insecure, defensive behaviours are obsoleted, brought to an end, and we free ourselves from the human condition.

Theodore J. StJohn

Thank you so much for the summary. Perfect timing. I was just writing a post for my website (holomorphicprocess) to tell about this amazing movement and this is just what I needed. So I will just copy and paste it into my post.

Dennis

Please explain how this awareness will fix religion . The worst anxiety to ever affect mankind.

WTM Admin

What you realise as you absorb Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the human condition is that religion has had an important role to play in humanity’s journey, which was to be a home for the ideals as humanity necessarily become more and more corrupted by the search for knoweldge. So it hasn’t been the source of our anxiety, but by reminding us of ideal behaviour, it certainly could add to our guilt. What this understanding does is reconcile science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. In fact, it presents the fulfilment of a time that all religions looked forward to when we could actually explain ourselves. You might be interested in our FAQs on religion.

Cari

Thank you

Andrew

What is the objective here? Are we all to dissolve our conscious awareness somehow? Else we will be as we are. Seeing as we act out of our psychology, understanding our nature seems not to be the required input of our many psychological mechanisms in order to arrive at the destination of an altered state of innate behaviour. Rather, the input must be of a redemptive quality in order to understand our more accurately described “sinful” nature whilst providing us with a path or knowledge of how we out to behave in order to restore us to an environment akin to that which “Adam’s” counterparts existed. P.S I subscribe to no organised religion.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your thoughts Andrew. The objective (of the WTM and the human journey) is to solve the human condition, “understand our ‘sinful’ nature” and stop the suffering and destruction in the world, and this depended on being able to explain our biology. Ultimately we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are we so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy Griffith presents in THE Interview and his definitive book FREEDOM. Only by bringing reconciling understanding to our conflicted selves could we ameloriate and heal our psychological condition which liberates and empowers our conscious awareness (not dissolves it). As these quotes, from two of the many commendations for Jeremy’s work, illustrate: “FREEDOM is the necessary breakthrough in the critical issue of needing to understand ourselves“ (Prof. David J. Chivers, Cambridge anthropologist) and ”Living without this understanding is like living back in the stone age, that’s how massive the change it brings is!" (Prof. Karen Riley, clinical pharmacist). You can see all these outstanding commendations on our homepage here.     The WTM is not a religion (see FAQ 3.1 ‘What is the WTM’). In fact this explanation reconciles science and religion by bringing biological understanding to pre-scientific concepts. For instance FAQ 6.3 explains that, “The whole objective of our conscious mind has been to replace ignorance, mystery, superstition and dogma with knowledge and understanding ... Obviously what was desperately missing was the reconciling understanding of our upset behaviour and the Godly ideals; reconciling understanding of the human condition in fact—which is exactly what Jeremy Griffith presents us with. With the understanding of the human condition that explains why we departed from those Godly ideals, no longer does anybody have to preach, or be terrorised by, religious dogma.”

Norman

wow so glad i took time out to see in full all 4 parts / its like someone turned a light on

Laura Wilson

Ultruism and self sacrifice are virtues well established within the current definition of the human condition. However, dogmas, and archaic religious positions hinder the development and establishment of this utopian paradigm. Humans, as a distinct species, lack the ability to trust. Thereby negating the possibility of remedial behaviour necessary for the dynamic shift in the human condition to a more cooperative and loving platform. This is why humanity is slowly sinking into the dark dystopian abyss off state control. The elites need to control the masses through fear. Fear is the only common denominator that permeates through all species on the planet. For instance, a frog doesn’t understand the concept of love. However, fear is a vital self preservation instinct that serves both human and animal survival alike. I am an optimist. Yet I hold little hope for the emotional and psychological healing necessary for the human race to survive long enough as a species to achieve psychological Nirvana.

WTM Admin

Hi Laura. The human condition is the issue of humans’ capacity for acts of both so-called ‘good and evil’—of why, when our instincts are to be altruistic, loving and selfless are we capable of incredible aggression and selfishness. What is hindering our development isn’t dogma or religion or our distrust rather it is our inability to reconcile these contradictory states — understand and ameliorate the conflict within us. The abyss of dark dystopia we are facing is not caused by control of the masses as all our institutions, including our governments and class systems, are a manifestation of our insecure, psychologically upset condition (see FAQ 1.40 ‘How can you hope to transform the world? — In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful? / How are you going to reach the bastions of power? / Won’t the greedy and power-hungry simply ignore this?’).     We suggest you re-watch THE Interview as it does brings great understanding, relief and hope to our current situation. For instance in Part 3 especially Jeremy evidences this key biological distinction that humans suffer from the conscious-mind-based, psychologically troubled human condition, not the genetic-opportunism-based, animal condition. And, most importantly, as Part 4 explains a psychosis can be healed with understanding, so our psychologically upset human nature is fixable or changeable—not unchangeable, which is what it would essentially be if our competitive and aggressive nature was instinctive; if it was something that is in our genes and we were born with. So the real psychotherapy of our collective and individual psychoses can begin” (see FAQ 1.34). Jeremy writes more about the real therapy of the human condition one of his latest books Therapy For The Human Condition.

Adam Vandiver

Looking forward to watching. I see how trends have taken people to a bad place and them turn on the rest that didn’t follow. Neither can relate to the other.

WTM Admin

Finding the answer to the human condition is what has been so desperately needed and this ultimately depended on being able to explain our biology. Yes there has been many, many sometimes weird and sometimes wonderful trends or techniques to try and manage our psychologically upset human condition but none of them have brought an end to the upset state of the human condition—it’s still rampant everywhere. The reason is because they don’t solve the human condition. They don’t deal with the source of our species’ corrupted condition and bring relieving understanding to it. This is what Jeremy Griffith’s treatise does and why it is heralded as the biological breakthrough that can save the world. As Professor Harry Prosen, a former president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, endorsed the significance of Jeremy Griffith’s treatise saying “I have no doubt Jeremy Griffith’s biological explanation of the human condition is the holy grail of insight we have sought for the psychological rehabilitation of the human race.” You can watch or read THE Interview at the top of our homepage and from there our homepage guides you on how best further your interest.

The problem is that most people don’t know what’s love. They use the word love for everything but if one can differ loving human from a apple then we’ll see charges. Then we will understand the unique value of love and want it for every human being.

WTM Admin

Hi Beverley, well at last understand what love actually is and why we struggle to love ourselves and others. Jeremy Griffith explains that love is unconditional selflessness and why it so significant in our lives and in the development of humanity. There is actually a clear theme or purpose or meaning of existence, which is the ordering or integration of matter, a process that is driven by the physical law of Negative Entropy – see FAQ 5.3 ‘What is the meaning of life? / What is the Integrative Meaning of existence? / What is God?’. Also Jeremy’s book titled The Book Of Real Answers To Everything! includes the essay ‘What is Love‘ which you may like to read.

Deeveena

Too Deadly ❤️ YES YES YES Thank You Spirit Of Our Ancestors. ❤️ You’re All Hired. ❤️ I Live In Australia

WTM Admin

YES Deeveena it is so exciting to be able to understand that our ancestoral instinctive orientation is to be loving and selfless! And yes, as THE Interview explains, before now it was “too deadly”, as you rightly say, to acknowledge this because unable to defend our non-loving, selfish behaviour admitting this left us unbearably condemned, and so we employed the false excuse that we have savage instincts like other animals. Also paradoxically, only by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our loving instincts and become so psychologically upset, it makes redundant our upset behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation, allowing us to legitimately end the perpetuation of our destructive behaviour and legitimately return to our instinctive selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it.

Robyn Fryer

How do you educate the whole world when we all start from a different place of understanding? The interview was quite enlightening but I feel we won’t see a great deal of change for many generations.

WTM Admin

Hi Robyn, as Part 4 of THE Interview explains, yes it will take generations for the upset within us to be completely healed but importantly we can be immediately free of its affects. Our FAQ 1.6 summarises how understanding the human condition is the universal solution to human suffering no matter the differences in people’s understanding as the fundamental explanation is very simple and not beyond the most basic of educations. What is challenging is the very nature of the human condition means explanation of it can be initially difficult to access. This is because, as THE Interview also explains, the human condition is the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad so it has historically been the most terrifying of all subjects to face, which means our minds can initially struggle to hear and absorb discussion about it. Thankfully however, this ‘deaf effect’ can be overcome with patient perseverance and everyone can access this most wonderful of all gifts of understanding the human condition and this is already happening! Just read the ecstatic responses THE Interview is receiving on our homepage and scroll down to see the rapidly growing appreciation and support for the WTM with outstanding commendations from scientists and thought leaders and 70 WTM Centres all over the world! Also, we suggest our FAQ 1.40 ‘How can you hope to transform the world?’

Bruce

There has to be change

WTM Admin

Absolutely Bruce and only by solving the human condition can we stop the destruction of our world and the disintegration of society that is happening everywhere we look. We need to deal with the source of our species’ corrupted condition and bring relieving understanding to it and that is what biologist Jeremy Griffith presents here in THE Interview. You may find these FAQs helpful, FAQ 1.6 ‘Why does understanding of the human condition solve everything?’ and FAQ 1.40 ‘Aren’t the problems of the world too overwhelming to ever be fixed? / Isn’t it too late to save the world? / How can you hope to transform the world?'

Rafael Santiago

I have to see this over and over again, that’s how much it meant to me and I will be showing it to others, so there you go,this is Rafael Santiago saying good bye for now, so long.

Shailesh Naik

Transformation is on and needs us to know how to respond positively.

WTM Admin

Yes, as Part 4 of THE Interview explains this understanding of the human condition liberates us from an underlying insecurity and resulting psychosis that all humans have suffered from since we became a fully conscious species some 2 million years ago, which allows the immediate transformation of everyone’s life because, as Jeremy Griffith explains, “while it will take a number of generations to heal all the upset in us humans, everyone can immediately live free of their upset. The reason we can live free of it is that while we lacked the real defence and reinforcement of understanding of our corrupted condition, we absolutely needed the artificial defences and reinforcements of attacking any criticism of our corrupted condition, of denying and blocking it out, and of finding any positive reinforcement we could—anger, alienation and egocentricity are what sustained us—but now that we have the real defence and reinforcement of our fundamental goodness, all these artificial defences and reinforcements are obsoleted, they are no longer needed.” You can read more about the immediate transformation this understanding makes possible on our Transformation page.

PRESTON DURR

Amazing how you have this true love for humanity

WTM Admin

The following passage from psychiatrist Professor Harry Prosen’s Introduction to Jeremy Griffith’s definitive book FREEDOM provides a good explanation as to the source of Jeremy’s love for humanity: “as my profession has taught me only too well [writes Prof. Prosen], for most people, trying to think about this ultimate of questions of whether humans are fundamentally good or not has been an unbearably self-confronting exercise. Indeed, while the term ‘human condition’ has become fashionable, its superficial use masks just how profoundly unsettling a subject it really is. Again, the truth is, the issue of the human condition has been so depressing for virtually all humans that only a rare few individuals in history have been sound and secure enough in self to go anywhere near what the human condition really is. So for Jeremy to so freely and accurately talk about it as he does in this book, he clearly must be one of those rare few. Nurtured by a sheltered upbringing in the Australian ‘bush’ (countryside), Jeremy’s soundness and resulting extraordinary integrity and thus clarity of thought, coupled with his training in biology, has enabled him to successfully grapple with this most foreboding of all subjects for the human mind of the human condition and produce the breakthrough, human-behavior-demystifying-and-ameliorating explanation of it.”

CJ Kline

I really enjoyed your 4-part interview. It explains so much. There’s 1 thing that I’m troubled with. I believe it’s been proved that aggression is more genetic than environment. This provides for the reason of the biggest, toughest breeding. So for 2 million years it’s progressively dominating and subdued the female nurturing nature. Bonobos we’re a population separated by a river. That nurturing nature is a result in a lessor aggressive genetic reproduction. To gain a population of genetically and spiritually kinder & gentler human species will take a thousand years as the biggest “dick” is no longer the top breeder because of technology. A man can be gentler, less muscled, smarter and be the choice of females. Whereas for 2 million years brut force and misguided choice was the top breeders. Just my opinion. Another way to view.

WTM Admin

Thanks for your considered comment CJ. Jeremy Griffith explains in THE Interview that our predominant instinctive orientation is to be cooperative and loving: “As Charles Darwin said, ‘The moral sense…affords the best and highest distinction between man and the lower animals’ (The Descent of Man, 1871, ch.4). Of course, to have acquired these cooperative, selfless and loving moral instincts our distant ape ancestors must have lived cooperatively, selflessly and lovingly, otherwise how else could we have acquired them? Our ape ancestors can’t have been brutal, club-wielding, competitive and aggressive savages as we have been taught, rather they must have lived in a Garden of Eden-like state of cooperative, selfless and loving innocent gentleness.” And so if we do have these loving and cooperative instincts (the expression of which is our conscience), then it means that the source of our aggressive and selfish behaviour cannot be ‘savage instincts’ as we have been taught. We now know that our destructive behaviour is not due to savage instincts but is the result of a psychosis caused by the ‘instincts and intellect’ clash. It does all make sense now. You might be interested in Freedom Essay 21, where you can read more about how we developed our loving, moral soul or instinctive self.     Certainly since the emergence of the human condition some 2 million years ago, humanity has become psychologically upset, which expresses itself in aggression, and to some extent we are now genetically adapted to those rising levels of upset, but as is explained in FAQ 1.30 titled ‘Is upset so engrained in our DNA now that we’ll never be free of it? / Have we been living with the human condition for so long now that our upset angry, egocentric and alienated behaviour has become instinctive and unchangeable even though we’ve solved the human condition?’, our adaption to those rising levels of psychological upset does not mean that we are now ruled by selfish, aggressive instincts. As Jeremy explains: “It has to be appreciated that while there has to be a great deal of adaption to upset within us from all the upset the human race has been living through for the last 2 million years, our far greater genetic heritage is the many millions years prior to 2million years ago when we lived cooperatively and lovingly. In fact, upset has only become extreme in the last 11,000 years or so since the advent of agriculture and the domestication of animals that led to humans living closer together, which greatly increased and spread upset. Our original all-loving and all-sensitive instinctive self or soul is by far the biggest part of our instinctive behavioural make-up—which is hugely apparent in the instinctive happiness and soundness of children before they become overwhelmed by the human condition. So all our soul needs is the chance to be the all-dominating part of ourselves, and it will be because it isthe all-dominant part of ourselves.”

Good story, however the interjection of Adam and Eve, the garden, a.k.a., religion and omniscient beings, etc., killed this as a serious scientific piece.

WTM Admin

What is presented is a non-mystical, completely rational and thus understandable, scientific, biological explanation of human behaviour. However, the study of the human condition is the study of humans’ capacity for acts of both so-called ‘good and evil’ — of why, when the ideals are to be cooperative loving and selfless are we capable of incredible aggression and selfishness, and this realm of inquiry is where science and religion overlap, so naturally in explaining the human condition religious references will be used, and through scientific explanation, finally demystified and reconciled. Read more in FAQ 1.15.     For example, Jeremy Griffith’s work brings biological understanding to religion’s pre-scientific descriptions of our condition such as the story of the Garden of Eden. As explained in Part 2 of THE Interview, the book of Genesis story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden describes the primary situation involved in our human condition of the psychologically upsetting battle that emerged between our instincts and our conscious intellect’s search for knowledge. So ‘the fall’, to use religious terminology, was caused by the emerging conscious mind’s search for knowledge, which was in effect criticised by our pre-established instincts which were ‘intolerant’ of those experiments in self-management. Understanding that the conscious mind is an insightful learning tool, and therefore needs to find understanding to operate, removes the burden of guilt from humanity. Rather than being ‘sinful’ for taking the fruit from the tree of knowledge, we can now understand that we conscious humans are heroes, not villains.     Furthermore, ‘God’ (or “omniscient beings” as you put it), is demystified as the personification of the Negative Entropy driven Integrative drive in the universe. You can read about God and negative entropy in FAQ 6.2.

It is encouraging to learn of these presented principles of the source(s) of our undeniably, current, human behaviour patterns of violence, cruelty, non-empathy, sadism, etc., which are rife globally. Your evidence and theory support their acceptance and belief. However, the gaping gulf between theory and practice is gigantic and difficult to believe as achievable, even after generations of education. Perhaps a comparison with the introduction of Christianity into our civilization is not amiss? Even though our digital, public, communication systems are extensive and global, to reach and educate tens of billions of individuals seems, to the extent that a new, total, phsychological transformation becomes an ingrained, heriditary and a physical reality, to be miraculous. Of course, that is no reason not to pursue this very desirable program, as it is so chronically desirable! Looking forward to following enthusiastcally, and sharing where possible. Thank You for your enlightenment, “light at the end of the tunnel”?

WTM Admin

Thank you Ken, for your very considered response, and your entusiasm to follow and share this breakthrough.     As explained in Part 4 of THE Interview (titled ‘How does the psychological rehabilitation of the human race that the arrival of understanding of the human condition finally makes possible actually occur?’), while the upset within us will take generations to be completely healed, importantly we can be immediately free of its effects. Certainly introducing a paradigm shift of this nature is tough to initiate, however humanity’s uptake of the explanation of the human condition has a fast finish, because, as he explains in chapter 9 of his definitive book FREEDOM, once people start having the legitimate ‘change of heart’ that this information allows, the selflessness that it liberates will not only quickly solve all the problems on the planet, but the excitement and joy it brings means everyone will want to get on board as quickly as they can! For example, Jeremy writes in chapter 9:9, “Although this new world for humans, which the World Transformation Movement has been established to facilitate, will have a slow beginning because humans initially find it difficult even taking in or ‘hearing’ discussion about the human condition, once the WTM is discovered, word of it and what it offers every human and the world will spread like wildfire—as the exceptional denial-free thinking prophet Teilhard de Chardin wrote, ‘The Truth has to only appear once…for it to be impossible for anything ever to prevent it from spreading universally and setting everything ablaze’”.     You may also find our FAQ 1.40 helpful titled ‘Aren’t the problems of the world too overwhelming to ever be fixed? / Isn’t it too late to save the world? / How can you hope to transform the world? – In particular, how are you going to change the behaviour of the rich and powerful?’. It is explained there that even those who are most committed to seeking validation through gaining power and wealth, including those entrenched in positions of power, will quickly realise how empty and obsolete that strategy is now that we have the fully accountable, psychosis-addressing-and-solving, biological explanation of the human condition that establishes our worth at the most fundamental level.     Regarding your comment “Perhaps a comparison with the introduction of Christianity into our civilization is not amiss?”, we recommend reading Part 3 of Transform Your Life And Save The World, in which Jeremy Griffith writes: “Can humans give up a highly habituated existence from living competitively and selfishly to living cooperatively and lovingly, or, in the case of supporters of pseudo idealism, change from masquerading as an idealist to living honestly with the truth of their corrupted condition? The answer is a resounding yes: humans can instantly change from living one way to living a completely different way, and for evidence that you and every other human can make such a change, we need only look at what occurs in religious conversions (although as will be made very clear, the change this explanation makes possible is very different to a religious conversion).”

Christine Wilkie

The interview confirms what I hoped was the human condition. I am 80 so have had a long time to think about it. I am appalled at the present needless wars and hope the views expressed in the interview can be spread to our advantage. We need new thinking to survive.

WTM Admin

Your comment regarding the necessity for “new thinking to survive” recalls a section in Professor Harry Prosen’s ‘Introduction’ to Jeremy Griffith’s definitive book, FREEDOM: The End Of The Human Condition (in paragraph 6) in which he wrote: "In The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1970), science historian Thomas Kuhn noted that 'revolutions are often initiated by an outsider—someone not locked into the current model, which hampers vision almost as much as blinders would’ (from Shirley Strum’s Almost Human, 1987, p.164 of 297). And when it comes to addressing the problem of the human condition this need to think independently of the existing details-only-focused, whole-view-of-the-human-condition-avoiding, mechanistic framework could not be more critical. For someone to be able to explain, and, through that explanation, bring reconciling, ameliorating understanding to our troubled human-condition-afflicted lives, they obviously had to be thinking from a position outside that conventional mechanistic paradigm. The situation certainly brings to mind Einstein’s famous comment that ‘We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them’! I might say that I think we have always known that profound insight into human nature wasn’t going to emerge from the ivory towers of intellectualdom, rather it was going to come from the deepest of deep left field, somewhere where some extraordinary untainted clarity of thought might still exist, such as from the backwoods of Australia where these answers are actually from." (Professor Harry Prosen was a former president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association.)

Christine Wilkie

I am a Christian and this fits with my feelings about Jesus Christ who appears to have lived a life free of any conflict or malice towards others. I am not a fanatic.

WTM Admin

Thank you for your comments, Christine. We wanted to say that Jeremy considers the Bible to be a repository of extremely rare denial-free truth, containing all the truth about human life albeit from a pre-science perspective (see our FAQs about religion), and he has written about Christ’s life and its phenomenal contribution to humanity’s journey in Freedom Essay 39.

John Fagan

I have listened to this interview several times but I still have not a clue what it is about. I do not regard myself as Thick or stupid. I worked in the Irish Civil service all my working 42 years and in that time I obtained 6 promotions by various routes like exams, Interviews, assessments by superior Supervisors.. WHAT Proportion of the living humans is this based upon ? I am 80 years old and I have never been like the aggressive people this conclusion is based upon. The people of that ilk are generally dealt with by the authorities who mostly are the opposite to the targets of the survey.....

WTM Admin

Hi John. Essentially we needed to find the scientific explanation for why when the universal ideals are to be loving, cooperative and selfless are humans so angry, competitive and selfish. Answering this question required finding the clarifying difference between the way the intellect and instincts work, and that is the great biological breakthrough Jeremy presents in THE Interview and his book FREEDOM. The human condition manifests in different ways in all as a result of our own experiences and exposure to the world, but the clash between instinct and intellect is the source of all our various degrees of insecurity and subsequent anger, egocentricity and alienation, and so explaining it makes all those defensive behaviours redundant. We suggest you read the very brief summary in FAQ 1.3. Also watching the video series that follows THE Interview is great as that series elaborates on what’s been presented — so there’ll be some repetition, but going over the concepts in more detail does help with the understanding and absorption of them. FAQ 1.16 is also recommended because it explains our historic fear of the subject of the human condition and the resulting ‘deaf effect’ that often initially causes. So it can take a little time and perseverance to get your head around it this explanation but it’s well worth it as you can see from the daily ecstatic responses on our homepage — people everywhere are so relieved to finally be able to make sense of human life!

Incredible analysis of human mind set

Robert

So so true and opens your eyes but how do we cure the human condition when it’s been programed into our consciousness for 2000000 years will it take another 2000000 years when everybody understands the facts of the human condition to cure us?

WTM Admin

Part 4 of THE Interview, titled ‘How does the psychological rehabilitation of the human race that the arrival of understanding of the human condition finally makes possible actually occur?’, presents the answer to how this understanding allows us to transform our lives. It explains that it will take a number of generations for the upset within us to be completely healed but it also stresses importantly we can be immediately free of its effects. Certainly there is habituation to overcome and humans do find change difficult but at last we can understand our behaviour has been driven by a deep insecurity about our fundamental goodness or worth and so now that our goodness is biologically established we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living. ‘Legitimately’ because we have the first principle science which liberates us to be honest about our conflicted upset state instead of denying or transcending it. So instead of being focused on power, fame, fortune and glory, all our energies will be freed to truly work together on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering and save our world.     When this starts to catch on, it will spread very quickly. As Jeremy says in Freedom Essay 15, “It is this particular undeniable consequence of the arrival of understanding of the human condition of the transformation of our lives from living selfishly and competitively to living selflessly and cooperatively that is going to eventually catch on as being the right response now for everyone and when it does, it will spread like wildfire across our planet, and save the world. And it is not a revolution that involves warfare and bloodshed like so many revolutions in the past, but a peaceful revolution that is driven by irrefutable knowledge/understanding. We humans are conscious beings and what consciousness needs is understanding, and now we have it. Ultimately, we humans respond to knowledge—anything less was bound to be ineffective. This is the real and lasting transformation that the human race has lived in hope, faith and trust would one day occur. It is the revolution of our minds.”

Emmanuel Gomasa

An incredible insight into human condition. Intriguing to reach the point of ‘difficulty’ that genes normally can’t select to be unconditionally selfless and to be self-eliminating. Thank you for sharing.

Deborah Sanders

Absolutely mind-blowing. It’s the perfect time in history for this information to come to light. The world is starting to awaken and people are looking to return to there roots of self sustainability and community.

WTM Admin

Thanks for your comment Deborah. Yes, there is a growing awareness that things can’t go on as they have been; there is a dire need in the world for a deeper, lasting solution to all the chaos and suffering in human life. However, up until now, any return to “self sustainability and community” has really been a ‘false start’. As THE Interview (Part 4) stresses, the only way we can legitimately return to a truly communal way of living is to confront and biologically explain why we became so upset (angry, egocentric and alienated) and at odds with our instincts, which is what Jeremy Griffith’s treatise does. Anything less was a false start to a human-condition-free world, was pseudo idealistic, because the upsetting battle to find knowledge, ultimately self-knowledge, the psychologically relieving understanding of why we are good and not bad, still had to be completed. FAQ 6.5

Janet

So far basic knowledge of the wounded warrior syndrome

WTM Admin

Hi Janet, we’re not sure what you’re referring to when you say “wounded warrior syndrome” but if you’re citing Carl Jung’s “wounded healer”, both Jeremy Griffith and his explanation of the human condition are far from falling into that category. Firstly, Jeremy is incredibly sound in soul, not “wounded” and seeking to heal himself through therapy; rather he’s seeking to therapise all of humanity through his unique ability to actually address and solve the human condition — see his biography to clarify his background. And while Jung was forever saying, “wholeness for humans depends on the ability to own our own shadow”, and was able to highlight a clash between instinctual drives and consciousness, he was never able to explain the source of the clash or that the fundamental nature of our psychosis was our repression of loving and cooperative instincts. What Jeremy has provided is the all-important clarifying, redeeming, reconciling and psychologically rehabilitating explanation for why the conflict between our instincts and our consciousness occurred. Until that was found, we humans couldn’t relieve ourselves of our psychologically upset state or condition.

Janet

So I was not referring to him personally, I was only referring to the first part of the psychological analysis that he is referring to that an introspective I do agree with his findings

WTM Admin

Thanks very much, Janet, for clarifying your thoughts, and we very much hope you keep exploring Jeremy’s breakthrough understanding of the human condition by viewing the recommended ‘next steps’ after watching THE Interview on the WTM’s homepage.

Patrick Glass

Jeremy Griffith - Thank you very much for this. Not the complete answer. But a very useful start.

WTM Admin

Hi Patrick, we encourage you to pursue your interest because understanding the human condition is THE great unlocking point in the human journey of conscious thought and enquiry and provides the real basis, the real and “complete answer”, for a lasting freedom from the torment of not understanding our species’ psychologically troubled existence, of not understanding ourselves and others. Its resolution leads at last to an incredibly exciting and meaningful world for everyone! We recommend reading our FAQ 1.6 ‘Why does understanding solve everything’.

Parnell Duverger Sr

Interesting book, indeed. Happy New Year.

Robert Fallows

You can’t just dismiss animal instincts like that. They are behind a lot of our aggression.

WTM Admin

Thanks for your comment Robert. Part 1 of THE Interview begins with an exposition of the widely held view that our competitive, selfish and aggressive behaviour is instinctive, the result of our genes need to compete for mating opportunities. But as Jeremy explains, “Surely this idea that we have savage competitive and aggressive, must-reproduce-our-genes instincts cannot be the real reason for our species’ competitive and aggressive behaviour because, after all, words used to describe our human behaviour such as egocentric, arrogant, inspired, depressed, deluded, pessimistic, optimistic, artificial, hateful, cynical, mean, sadistic, immoral, brilliant, guilt-ridden, evil, psychotic, neurotic and alienated, all recognise the involvement of OUR species’ fully conscious thinking mind. They demonstrate that there is a psychological dimension to our behaviour; that we don’t suffer from a genetic-opportunism-driven ‘animal condition’, but a conscious-mind-based, psychologically troubled HUMAN CONDITION.”     Jeremy goes on to explain that “What’s more, we humans have cooperative, selfless and loving moral instincts, the voice or expression of which we call our conscience—which is the complete opposite of competitive, selfish and aggressive instincts. As Charles Darwin said, ‘The moral sense…affords the best and highest distinction between man and the lower animals’” And beyond, in Part 3 of THE Interview, Jeremy explains how our ancestors did acquire our instinctive cooperative and loving moral conscience.

Will Williams

It will open your eyes about the way we think about what is really conscience mind

WTM Admin

Yes, we can now explain that our instincts are totally loving and cooperative, the voice of which is our conscience. And what’s more, we can understand that our conscious mind has been at war with our instinctive self or soul or conscience, because it in-effect criticised our conscious mind’s experiments in self-managment. Thankfully, with the redeeming explanation of the human condition that conflict now ends, and the conscious mind can live in harmony with our instinctive self.

Lily Lee

Thank you. It fits.

Craig T.

Truly amazing, it’s a shame we’ve lost the best of ourselves over our desires.

WTM Admin

Craig, what is so significant about the explanation of the human conditon is that this understanding defends our so-called ‘dark side’ and explains that despite all appearances to the contrary, all humans are ‘good’. And paradoxically, by explaining the very good reason why our intellect had to defy our instincts, it makes redundant our destructive “desires”, our defensive behaviours of anger, egocentricity and alienation, allowing us to bring back the “best of ourselves”!
